Angie’s List members who live in Moore, Oklahoma, describe the EF-5 tornado that struck Moore and the surrounding areas on May 20, 2013.
Voice of Haley, Angie’s List member: “The hail came down really really really hard for probably about 5-10 minutes, and then there was silence. There wasn’t any noise at all. We heard this rumble, kind of like a grinding rumble, like a [growls] like a growling rumble. And it lasted… it lasted a very long time. “
Kay Johnson, Angie’s List member: “It was a slow-moving tornado. So it took it’s time in its destruction.”
Haley: “You just kind of stand there in shock. There were downed power lines across the street. Cars were piled up against the hospital. There was a car up leaning against the roof and it’s a two-story building. And it’s just looks like a bomb went off pretty much.”
Kay: “Hard to - you know - to realize everything there that you had just been there is gone. And of course, that’s multiplied infinitely for the people who have lost their homes. There’s a thing in Oklahoma called the Oklahoma Standard. Friends, neighbors, people come by and say ‘What do you need?’ People around here run to-- not away from.”
