Tracy Moore, Lucy’s Bridal Shop: “When a bride goes in to try on wedding gowns-- couple pieces of advice-- first of all, if you can, avoid bringing a lot of people with you. It’s best to start out small. Shopping for wedding gowns can be very overwhelming,  so I like to have a bride narrow down her silhouettes first. There are just about 5 or 6 actual silhouettes of gowns, whether it is a ball gown or trumpet style. That eliminates the need to continue to try on ball gowns when what she is really looking for is a slim trumpet shape. The strapless are popular today. Although, we are seeing more coverage; sleeves and higher necklines are also becoming more popular. There are a lot of money saving options for brides who are on a limited budget. We have gowns for $350. Another good option is to look for sample sales. Bridal stores run sample sales throughout the year where you can get a dress that other girls have tried on, but you can have it cleaned and take it to your seamstress, and it’s almost as good as new.  You can get a great deal.  Also, another option that I like to offer my brides, especially for destination weddings or an outdoor wedding, is to choose a bridesmaid’s dress and order it in white or ivory.”
