Angie’s List tops the 10 Millionth Verified Review Mark
INDIANAPOLIS – November 6, 2015 – Angie’s List (Nasdaq: ANGI) has eclipsed the 10 million mark in its collection of verified consumer reviews.
“Quantity and quality come together here,” said Angie’s List Founder Angie Hicks. “It’s one thing to have millions of reviews but another to have millions of high-quality reviews.”
Angie’s List is uniquely positioned in the home services space because of its accountability structure and the loyalty of its members, who renew their membership at high rates and rely on each other to share information about their hiring experiences.
“I hear all the time from members who say they love the fact that our reviews go really in-depth to give a grade but also a narrative of how the hiring process went, how much it cost and whether they would hire the company again,” Hicks said. “Another favorite aspect is when service companies give their side of the story, so you get the full picture.”
Angie’s List stands virtually alone in the home services space when it comes to the way it collects consumer reviews. Anonymous reviews are prohibited, and all go through a verification process to ensure authenticity. In addition to the prohibition on anonymity:
- Angie’s List members must enter into an agreement to give their honest assessment of their own experiences.
- They must reaffirm that agreement with each new review submitted.
- Companies are encouraged to monitor and respond to their reviews (free-of-charge) so members get both sides of the story.
- Proprietary technology reviews submissions for any signs of attempted manipulation.
- A team of specialists investigates any complaint or indication of unfair reviews.
Late last month, Angie’s List announced two new guarantees. The Angie’s Service Quality Guarantee promises that if qualified members purchase services through the Angie’s List e-commerce marketplace and are not satisfied with the quality, Angie’s List will help them find another provider to make it right or refund up to the purchase price of the e-commerce offer, up to $100,000.
The Angie’s Fair Price Guarantee promises consumers will receive a fair price for purchases made on the Angie’s List marketplace. The company defines fair price as one within the 75th percentile of prices available for the member’s local area for substantially similar services on the Angie’s List marketplace.
“National consumer surveys conducted this year show consumers are most concerned about two things when it comes to home services: finding quality help and getting a fair price,” Hicks said. “We’re committed to giving them a resource for hiring that takes both those worries away.”
