BJourneymen Ironworks
I was referred to Mr. Simms from a friend. Mr Simms did a great job on the rear gate. There were a few issues with timing, and the start of the work time. Mr. Simms is a one man shop so I can understand he is busy, but there should have been a bit further communication. Nevertheless, he did return my calls promptly. The quality the the rear gate, and the price were fantastic. He took his time and did it right. Based on this, I decided to let him bid on a fence that I wanted built in the front of my house. The price was significantly higher than the work for the rear gate. The end product does look nice, and to be clear these are custome built fences that Mr. Simms fabricates. But there were a few times that I had to step in to prevent corners being cut. Also, Mr. Simms did not have a generator for his welder, and I had to give him a power cord and he used my electricity. My bill this past month was $100 above what it is normally, and his welder also flipped a circuit in my house which was an inconvenience.  Overall, Mr. Simms is a skilled welder that does have a good eye. I would use him again if the scope of the work was completely defined.

ABanks B. Banks
Banks was extremely helpful - I was in a bind to have a railing installed to satisfy the bank so I could sell my property. All the other welders were unwilling to work with me on such short notice but Banks was willing to work with me to get the job done and put my mind to ease.

AAbay Iron & Metal Works LLC
Abay Iron & Metal Works mounted a mailbox on the front stoop of my house (Nov 2018) for $325. The worker came out from the company location in WDC, so a minimum charge to come out to Falls Church address was applied. Getting an experienced welder resulted in mounting the mailbox by welding so the mailbox would not move, yet could be removed, if necessary. The project was well organized and efficiently carried out. This company operates professionally.

Visvydas, Art, and Sergey were great. I had a variety of small projects to do, and they were able to meet me the next day to discuss the project The only job I declined to have them do is to replace or repair a metal railing, and only because I have a brother-in-law who was a welder and could do the job for free. The place looks a thousand times better.

ANOVA MOBILE WELDING SERVICES
John came at the time arranged to give an estimate for the work, and because our job was small he said he would fit us in when he could. The next week he did the work at the estimated price. The cost was less than other estimates, and John is very sociable as well as a capable welder. (He also smoothed some masonry work done by another group without charge.) We are very pleased with the final product.

AIVEY WELDING
The woman, Ann, who answers the phone is nice but doesn't know the technical details or costs. I was told I could bring in the item any time during business hours to determine if they could make it and get an estimate. There was a bit of a miscommunication because when I went there I was told I had to leave my item with them for a few days for the welder to look at it and give me an estimate. I wish I had been told this before I drove down and had been told whether or not I could have arranged to drive down when the welder was present. They gave me a mid-range price for the grate (compared to other estimates I received). But based on what they showed me, it looked like they could create essentially an identical item. They couldn't build me a rust-resistant version of the grate so I didn't hire them.

FNOVA MOBILE WELDING SERVICES
I had made arrangements for NOVA Mobile Welding to come and remove bars from a window and replace them the same day after the window had been replaced. On the day before the window replacement, NOVA called to indicate that he had car trouble and was not sure he could be at my house at the required times. I had to find another welder at the last minute. I would not recommend this vendor.

AKeyed In LLC
The job required a lock to be changed from requiring key to open from the inside to one that could just be opened with a turn of a knob. However, because this is a metal gate, the door could now be opened from the outside by reaching in and turning the knob, so I also need a security mesh net to prevent this from happening. Roy promptly addressed both issues and finished everything withing a few hours. His service was particularly convenient since I did not need the services of a welder for the mesh net.

ASuburban Welding
Suburban repaired and stabilized the wrought iron staircase, and also diagnosed the problem as not only age, but the instability of the ground the stairs rested on. Consequently, once the stairs were repaired I had a concrete slab put in as footing for the steps - thus saving future problems. In addition Paul talked about the history of wrought iron stairs in Washington - it was fun to learn the name of the company that manufactured my steps and something about them. Overall, Suburban was thoroughly professional: they told me what needed to be done, did it when they said they would, and called me when it was finished.

ABanks B. Banks
We are extremely pleased.  We had been getting the runaround with other contractors... they weren't available for months, and they charged crazy prices. I thought this was an easy project but it was much harder than I thought. I saw the steps Banks made to get it done right.  Previous welders had really screwed it up and didn't make their final project look good.  They just welded and didn't think through the consequences of their work.  Banks paid attention to the details and made sure to ask me my opinion at several steps along the way, and fixed it. It was obvious he knows his work.  If you have a project you need done he's probably done something like it before and will know where the pitfalls are and how to avoid them. We'll definitely hire Banks again for future work we have.

ABanks B. Banks
I can't rate this man high enough.  I called him on a Saturday morning and he was at our house several hours later and performed the work on the spot.  i had gotten an estimate from another contractor which I felt was too high and Mr. Banks performed the work for half of what  the other contractor was asking.  He is a second-generation welder, having learned the trade from his Father and takes great pride in his work.  The gates were attached to the adjacent brick walls on our 1800s home so we needed to have them removed carefully so as not to damage the brick.  He was efficient and pleasant and even hauled away the gates for us.  And to top it all off, he sent us two hand written thank you notes!

ABanks B. Banks
Mr. Banks is an excellent welder and metalworker.  He did a variety of projects, ranging from work on iron gates and a steel door, to modifying a decorative mailbox made of metal so that it has a new slot for the mail (when it did not before).  He is very conscientious and does superb work.  We appreciate that he involves the customer in decisions, always asking the customer?s opinion if there are various approaches to something.  He is also very careful about safety.  His rates are fair and reasonable for the work performed.  He accommodates the customer?s schedule and shows up when expected.  In addition, he is a genuinely nice, friendly and very interesting person!

AReliable Rails Inc
I promised Bina I'd write a response of my experience.  I did this for all future home owners in need of  Reliable service.  They'll get it from  Reliable Rails and much more.  Here's why: Any home buyer going through the approval/appraisal process knows the hurdles and variables you encounter at every stage.  And with lightening speed, you need to act and react to help move the needle.  Here's my story and how Reliable Rails earned, once again, the meaning of the word "reliable". On Wednesday of last week, I found out that we had to complete a few minor amends to our home before the FHA appraiser would approve the loan.  These included fencing, painting and wrought iron welding.  This was fine except that we were on a deadline to close THIS Thursday. In the first 3 minutes of conversation with Bina Giles, I felt with absolute certainty that she was bending over backwards to help. Not only did I get a confirmed yes, but the owner of the company agreed to send out a welder the next morning and complete the job same day.   Beyond this, they proved they're more than just order takers, but thinkers by trying to understand further the issue at hand and explaining where I could save money now and long term. Just the feeling of "Hey, I'm going to help you even if I have to move mountains", seems to be lost with today's service industry.  Well, I found it again with Reliable Rails.   Thanks Bina and co. and Timothy, the welder, too. You guys worked together to save my hide and my pocket book.

AAbay Iron & Metal Works LLC
I received estimates from 3 welders. Abay Iron Works was the most reasonably priced, and they did a great job. T needed to come to my house several times as part of the job, from taking measurements to installation. Each time, he arrived when he said he would. The craftsmanship was outstanding- T and his team did great work, including installation of new bars and new mesh on an exterior fence. They clearly listened to the reason why I hired them (to secure areas of my house), and this was reflected in the work they did. They even added welded an additional small metal barrier around the lock on a door, to make it more secure. Abay Iron Works does high quality work at reasonable prices. I'd recommend them to anyone.

ABinis Ironworks llc
Binis charged substantially less than any of the other welders I contacted. His crew were very efficient and FAST. The window bars look great. He even sent his crew back to add a security screen at no extra charge when we realized the casement windows opened wider than initially thought. Binis was very punctual when he came to do the estimate first thing in the morning.  I only gave lower marks for punctuality because on the day we had scheduled for installation there was a delay due to paint drying and no one let me know I needed to reschedule until I called the office. When he and his crew arrived the next day they were extremely courteous and efficient. It was very clear they took pride in their work and wanted to make sure I was happy with the results.

AOBER & SONS WELDING
The gate was fixed very quickly by cutting off the bent pipe and then replacing it and painting over the welded site. It looks great and works perfectly now. The workman was polite, professional and very fast. He changed slightly what Mike had originally told me the would do to repair the gate because he saw a slightly better way to accomplish the job. He explained what he wanted to do and I agreed. I think this was a very small job for Ober and Sons, but they were very accommodating, even though I know they had plenty of work scheduled already. I appreciated that very much.

AFederal City Iron Ltd
Federal City Iron did a great job. I?ve recently moved into a new home near Eastern Market and a would-be burglar attempted to disassemble the lock on the old security gate that protects my basement door and even tried to jimmy the actual door. When I noticed the damage to the lock and to the door, I called a locksmith to re-assemble and reinforce the gate lock. The locksmith said he could only provide a stopgap fix (despite charging $220) and recommended getting a welder to further secure the exterior side of the lock. In the morning I called Tom at Federal City to weld the lock and to add metal security bars to two windows that could serve as potential entry points. Tom came within 20 minutes of the call to provide an estimate. He did a great job installing window bars, even stopping the work in progress and coming back to the house when I asked him to look at and match some of the details in the metalwork of the other window bars. He also fixed the lock on the security gate, including correcting some deficiencies in the locksmith?s work. The work was complete within 48 hours of my first call to him. Tom provided a very honest assessment of what security measures the house needed ? and did not need ? and also provided great advice on maintaining the metal staircase at the entrance. It was great to meet someone who is knowledgeable, reliable, and takes pride in his work. He seems a bit old school - does work on a handshake, no written estimates, no deposit or payment until the work is done, no receipt. Doesn't bother me, but if you prefer things in writing, you might ask him about that from the start.

What are Welding Services?

Professional welders provide mobile and shop-based welding services for anyone who needs two or more metals fused together to form a solid, nearly unbreakable connection. Traditional welding has relied on heat, pressure and fire to fuse or join two separate pieces of metal into one. The molecular boundaries between the two materials disappear and form new crystalline connections, literally becoming one material.

In addition to modern laser welding, some types of welding are:

  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
  • Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
  • Electron Beam Welding
  • Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding
  • CO2  Welding (the commonest shielded gas welding)
  • Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding

Other specialized welding services include underwater welding and salvage or demolition metal cutting performed by welders.

Specific Welding Services

Welding services can perform engineered repairs, fabricate replacement parts, refurbish tools, or upgrade equipment to last longer or be stronger.

Highly trained welders offer their services through mobile trucks or by having work brought to well-equipped shops.

Hiring Welding Services

Angie's List recommends talking to three potential welders about your job for a competitive price. Also ask for:

  • Evidence of insurance.
  • Confirmation the metal work will be guaranteed.
  • The welder's credentials.
  • Read reviews and use the grades on this list near you to locate a local, reliable welder.

How Much Does Welding Cost?

Expect to pay between $150 to $250 for an average welding job.

The actual cost depends on the job's location, materials needed, and the level of expertise required. Hourly rates typically range from $65 to $125.
