HERNDON RESTON TRANSMISSION
Recent Review: After going to a Ford dealership that said I needed a $4000 transmission repair, I reviewed Angie's list for alternatives.  Herndon Reston Transmission was at the top of the list in member's reviews, and my experience indicates that those reviews were accurate.  After examining my transmission, Herndon-Reston Transmission identified three problems:  mismatched tires, casuing about 50 percent of the problem, slipage in the transmission, and a needed shield that they had used on similar transmissions.  After a few days of work--probably a few days longer than I expected--the transmission was fixed, and I saved about $2700.  After four months of driving the car, I have had no problems with the transmission.  I was positively struck by their honesty, inventiveness, and skill, and would return.

County Transmissions Inc.
Recent Review: I manage a fleet of 300 vehicles and have had problems finding a transmission shop that I could trust. I was turned on to County Transmission by a mechanical shop we trust. While most transmission quotes I get always end up being a $2,400 rebuild, County Transmission is honest in their diagnosis and fair in their pricing. Several cars have only needed simpler things like motor mounts or transmission control modules rather than a complete rebuild of the transmission.

SUBURBAN TRANSMISSIONS
Award 2019Super Service Award
Recent Review: Mike, the owner, and Rich are the licensed master transmission technicians at Suburban Transmission in Laurel, Maryland. Upon calling Mike and telling him of my possible transmission problems, he suggested I drop the vehicle off for a day or two for diagnosis of the problem. Mike was able to recognize that this was not a transmission problem because the vehicle did not engage in lower gear but accelerated fine in higher gear, which is not associated with transmission problems. Mike identified the problem as a damaged engine seal which covered the ignition coils. Both coils had begun to rust after heavy rainfalls, and the problem I was experiencing was due to an engine problem, not a transmission problem. If he were not an honest technician, Mike could have charged me for transmission service, which can easily go into hundreds and even thousands of dollars. As it was, he was completely honest in informing me of the engine problem. Mike made the necessary seal and coil repairs and charged me an extremely fair price for the work. Suburban Transmission has a staff of excellent, professional transmission technicians. They are honest with their customers, are professional and very responsive. I recommend their automotive services highly.

HI-TECH TRANSMISSIONS
Recent Review: .Apparently the technician had realised that there was excess spark on the transmission to fix the fifth gear. Everybody else wanted to do a complete transmission rebuild. The integrity of the company was outstanding. When all the other companies wanted to do the complete transmission rebuild only this company was ready to do a partial. Even the Mitsubishi dealer would do nothing less than replace the whole transmission. So we are looking at a $4000 job. To find somebody who would do this without doing the whole job is refreshing. The easy way to do this job is to simply replace the whole transmission with a manufactured transmission. It minimizes the skill that these people need to have and there is no risk in it. The rebuild folks stand by and all they need to do is to have the labor to put it in. It is a quick exchange in a lot of cases I will use this company in the future.

SUPERIOR TRANSMISSIONS
Recent Review: I came to Superior Transmission repair place by way of lots of web research...Angie's list didn't have Superior listed but I saw that Yelp had 5 - 5 star ratings and no negitive ratings (very rare for yelp reviews) and its been in business since 1975, so it has a good track record.I made an appointment and, dropped it of and they drove me to the car rental place which was nice of them. They called the next day and said transmission failed becasuse of a broken cooling line and need major repair quotd me betwee $2000 and $2500, par for the coursefor that kind of repair and said i could pick it up Tuesday night, When i called to see i it was ready the owner said he would like to keep it over night to test drive and said he would take $40.00 off to cover the extra rental expences, very nice of him. All in all a very positive experience All in All, car runs great and I have an 1 year unconditional warrenty...whats not to like! to likr

Since I provided the transmission, I had to pay labor twice (still under warranty from the junkyard) but they felt bad for me and gave me about 20% off the second time. County transmission did great work and I would use them again but I am going to sell this car fast before it eats through transmission #3 - they're defective by design. I wouldn't wish a transmission rebuild on anyone but I would use County Transmission again in a heartbeat. I wouldn't have had to go through this mess if I had just let County Transmission rebuild my original transmission. I highly recommend a rebuild over a used unit if your transmission is toast!

Daughter's car Infinity 2003 was smoking and leaking fluid. Husband said the transmission was shot and we were worried that the car would need whole new transmission. Car has 140,000 miles (plus two past car accidents) but we cannot afford to replace her car right now. Called County Transmissions after checking Angie's List just before they closed. They said it was okay have car towed to their shop, so redirected tow truck to County Transmissions at the last minute (rather than use a nearby repair shop that was not on Angie's List) on Friday evening and put keys in the drop box at County Transmissions in Vienna. Let County Transmissions check car and phoned them Monday and Tuesday to see how it was going. They replaced broken transmission line, filled transmission fluid and continued to work to repair the transmission. Good news on Wednesday, they were able to get the transmission to work by making repairs and resetting the computer control.  Happy they did not need to replace the entire transmission. We really got the feeling that they were trying to fix the transmission so that we would not have to pay for a whole new.  Wednesday, we paid for repair service by phone and County Transmissions left the car keys under the mat and locked the car. We picked up the car late Wednesday evening after dinner. Infinity has been running great ever since the repair. Great Job! Never even met the folks at County Transmission in person to thank them for fixing our car, doing a great job, and not ripping us off. Thanks!! Will use this shop again in the future if we need transmission work and we will recommend County Transmissions to our friends.

I chose County Transmissions in Vienna, VA after reading the numerous favorable reviews and now I must add mine. Spoke with Hampton and described what happened. He arranged to go get the car from the VW dealer and take a look. WOW was I pleasantly surprised when he told me the transmission case was cracked, but they could repair it and replace the transmission pan, filter, gasket and fluid. Parts and labor was $1075. A savings of almost $5000 !!!! He and Bill were absolutely fantastic. Friendly, honest and professional. I couldn't be happier and HIGHLY RECOMMEND County Transmission if you need your transmission serviced or repaired.

I recently repaired the transmission in my Chrysler Crossfire and needed the transmission controller reprogrammed to reset the fault codes.  I had the car towed to County Transmissions on Wednesday.  They called me up Friday and said I could pick the car up on Saturday even though they were closed on weekends.  I expected to pay $50-$100 for the service, but they did it for free! That's right, no charge!  If this is their way of getting new business it certainly succeeded.  The transmission now shifts beautifully.  I hope I don't have transmission trouble in the future, but if I do I will have County Transmissions take care of it.

My 2003 Ford Explorer, like many of that vintage, began to have transmission issues. I lost 2nd and 5th gears. I took it to my usual mechanic, who inspected the transmission and told me I needed a new transmission for $4400. I called Randy and right on the phone he discussed the range of issues that could be causing the problem, noting that they could not pinpoint the problem until they looked at it. Randy also noted that, if a new transmission was needed, it would cost me $3200. After he inspected the transmission, it turned out all I needed was a new servo that cost me $366. Needless to say, should I ever have a transmission or other issue with my car that requires an honest opinion, it is going to Randy's shop.

FSUPERIOR TRANSMISSIONS
We trusted Superior Transmission, paid them for a service based on their advice. and in the end they sold us a bad transmission that started to go bad after 4 months. We took our car back to them in March and they told us that the transmission was going bad and that we would need to give them another $1,000 for another transmission since our warranty had expired. I will never trust them again and I was not going to give them more money for another transmission that would only last us 3 or 4 months. If you are having transmission problems DO NOT trust Superior Transmission. We now have a car that we cannot drive despite the fact that we paid Superior Transmission $1,700 to repair it. We feel completely cheated and frustrated with the entire business. They are not to be trusted.

The folks were great to work with. They checked out my transmission thoroughly, made sure what the fix needed to be and double checked their work which is where they found I needed a new trans cooler. I would gladly work with them again.

I suspected transmission problems in our Honda, so I looked on Angie's List for reputable mechanics. Since my nearby Honda dealer was on the list, I began with them. They confirmed that I needed a new transmission, and gave me an estimate for $3300. I then called County Transmissions. The mechanic gave me an estimate of $2650 over the phone and said step by step exactly what they would do with the Honda beginning with confirming the transmission problem. I dropped the vehicle off after hours using their drop box. They called the next day, confirmed that the transmission needed rebuilding, and stood by the original estimate. A few days later they called and told us the vehicle was ready. Pick up was smooth and the price matched the estimate exactly.

ACottman Transmission and Total Auto Care
It was compatible with everybody else that I called. I haven't had any problems with it and they did a really good job. They would probably be the only person that I would use to build my transmission. This was my second go around with my transmission, and again I get what I pay for. I paid $2000 one time and everybody was quoting me the same thing. They said that I couldn't get the parts for $2000 let alone get it rebuilt. The truck that they rebuilt is a work truck, it is built to haul equipment. They got me in and got me out. They had it back when they said they would. I got it back before they said they would.

My normal mechanic indicated that my 2005 Odyssey had transmission issues including at least one bad mount. I took my van to County Transmissions which was rated highly on Angies list. They took it for a test drive while I waited and provided me a free estimate for the repairs. They confirmed that it required a transmission rebuild and at least one mount replaced. I contacted a local transmission repair shop to get an estimate over the phone and they were only able to provide me a wide price estimate for the transmission and would not provide an estimate for the mounts over the phone. County had provided me estimates for the transmission as well as a price range for mounts. I live in MD so I  dropped the car in the overnight slot on Sunday and the car was ready as promised early the following Friday morning. They rebuilt the transmission, and replaced a rear and top engine mount. They estimated the cost for me early and came in at what they originally estimated.

I wish all auto repair facilities treated their customers this way!  County Transmission was outstanding and truly stands behind their service.  We recently had a complete automatic transmission rebuild performed on a 98 Honda Accord for a lady in our church.  The rebuilt transmission developed some issues shortly after we picked it up, but Hampton and the crew at County Transmission jumped into action and took care of the problems very quickly.  As a serious car guy who's worked on cars for the past 45 years it's great to see the pride, workmanship and service exhibited by County Transmission.  It's very rare to see this level of service today.  A good rule of thumb when picking auto repair facilities is to look outside the garage at the number and type of vehicles waiting for service. When I pulled up I saw a restored 51 Jaguar, a 67 or 68 restored Mustang notchback, and a Porsche waiting for transmission repairs. People who put serious money into their cars know where they can get the job done right at a great price...and that's County Transmission!
