AAnthony & Sylvan Pools
I have had no problems with them and I have been satisfied with their service. I like Sylvan pools, as well. We had a Sylvan pool back in the 90s and our new pool we have now is also a Sylvan Pool.

AOmni Pool Builders and Design
We were very pleased with Omni Pool Builders and Design. After visiting several pool building companies, we chose Omni Pool Builders and Design for their professionalism, quality of product used and quality of workmanship. The process went very smoothly and their time lines were realistic for completion. The employees are very knowledgeable and addressed any questions we had. I would definitely recommend Omni Pool Builders and Design for anyone considering building a new pool. We had a great experience!

ASubcomm Pools
My pool couldnt even be called a pool at the time an estimate was provided. The previous owner of my home atempted to turn a liner pool into a concrete pool and use kitchen tiles along the wall. Needless to say the base of the pool cracked, broke and I could literally see dirt. The service manager at Subcomm pools communicated their concerns and the quoted price along with their plan of action. They communicated consistently and always kept me abreast of what was going on. They are very courteous and will go the extra mile to ensure I was satisfied. They took the time to answer any questions that I had. They also directed me to reading material that assisted with the maintenance of my pool. Very courteous staff and hard working. They were in the heat of the sun and still kept driving on. I would bring them a pitcher of water and ice everyday and they were very grateful.

AElite Pools
Elite Pools is one of the few pool contractors with a license in the District of Columbia. Elite Pools installed an in-ground concrete pool, rectangular, 36'x18', with diving board. They also installed concrete decking. It was a good experience, particularly from the point of view of costs, some of which were presented a la carte. I would recommend them to others.

BAnthony & Sylvan Pools
The project was to install a new pool from scratch. We started in Oct with the design of the pool. Overall the design process went well. The excavation took place in December and the concrete for the walls went in in Jan. From here, the schedule completely fell apart. Despite the amount of money you will pay for the pool, you as the customer will be expected to perform a lot of the oversight of the sub contractors and you are on the hook to clean up after them. March turned into April. By late April, we had figured out that our project manager had left the pool company. Our project made slow progress but by mid May the pool pump equipment was installed. By early June the pool deck was poured and the water was put in by the end of June. Despite having a new project manager, you will not see the PM on days when big events are happening, you will be on your own to make sure the project is put in correctly and that the sub contractors clean up after themselves. It is now late August and the pool has failed county inspection three times for various different issues. Do you expect hiccups along the way on a big project like a pool - Yes and we had quite a few. After all was said and done, A&S corporate headquarters stepped in and is doing what they can to ensure the project gets finished in the manner it should of be. Will you get a pool installed - Yes. Will you have to do a lot of supervision - Yes. However, for the amount of money that you will spend and how long you will look at the final product, I find it difficult to recommend using this company.

AWilcoxon Construction, LLC
They did an excellent job. This is the company that many of the pool companies subcontract with for pool plastering, coping repair and tile work. If you go to one of the pool companies, you might get Wilcoxon and you would pay more than if you went to them directly. A neighbor got several estimates from the big pool companies and Wilcoxon was a fraction of those estimates.

Great customer service, great follow through, and great attention to detail. The finished product is great! The technician who came out to train us on the pool did a great job with communicating to us all of the features and operations of the pool.

ABaldwin Pools
We met with three pool installation companies. Baldwin Pools came in with the most reasonable price (significant difference) and we just liked them immediately. Mary Baldwin, owner, did absolutely everything she said she would during our pre installation meeting. She stuck to her timeline completely and her crew was professional and polite. Our pool came out beautiful. Now we are now part of the Baldwin Pool extended family. Mary is extremely responsive for questions, maintenance and service. And she is always happy to hear from us! We highly recommend calling Baldwin Pools if you are looking for a built in pool anywhere in or near Northern Virginia.

AAnthony & Sylvan Pools
The Company was quick to answer all our questions and very helpful.   They even added extra tile to the stairs.  The renovations far exceeded our expectations  and the plastering  and bonding I would highly recommend because it made our pool so beautiful and new again. We were able to pick out beautiful new tile for our entire pool.   This pool was really built solid as when we took off the coping we were not sure what to expect, and it was in good shape with no structural damage so we just up-graded our look.  We look forward to enjoying our Anthony & Sylvania pool for many years to come.  I would highly recommend them to build or do your pool.

The job turned out good. They did keep up their promise, but there were some issues and they had to come back and fix them. I would consider using them again besides evaluating others as well.

ABaldwin Pools
Mary and her team built a complete in-ground pool with retaining walls. The whole experience was wonderful, from the first visit to our home to when the job was finished. We signed the proposal in April and we were swimming in August. The project would have been completed earlier, but it rained from April through May so they could not start until June. Once the job started everything when as expected. My wife's birthday is in August so it was a goal to have the pool finished by then, which it was. Mary even sent my wife flowers for her birthday. It has been over 11 years now and we still love our pool. We still have Mary open and close the pool every year. Every time we call Mary answers or returns our call. We would recommend Baldwin Pools again and again to anyone wanting a pool and if we were to have another pool built there would be no question who we would use.

ABaldwin Pools
Overall we are so very pleased with the beautiful pool that Baldwin pools built for our family.  The price was more than fair and the quality of the pool and decking is outstanding.  Mary and team were very flexible as we made changes to the design to customize the pool to fit our unique needs.  The bottom line is that it looks amazing!.  (See attached pics and you can judge for yourself.) The only downside was the length of time it took to build the pool.  We had an aggressive idea on when the pool could/would be completed and had hopes of getting a couple of weeks of swimming in last season.  Unfortunately we didn't make it in time for fall/winter (hence the lower grade on punctuality).  The good news is that the extra time gave us a chance to make some design changes to the pool/landscaping and we were first up to finish this spring.

AASP - America's Swimming Pool Co Springfield VA
ASP of Northern VA is far and away the best pool care, renovation and construction company. They have been caring for my pool for 3 seasons, and far surpass my expectations regularly. We had our pool renovated a few weeks ago, and it's gorgeous. The plaster, tile and coping are beautiful and exactly what we wanted. The team at ASP is engaged with and responsive to our needs, whether we need maintenance or service, throughout the year. I definitely recommend ASP.

Electric was not completed on time (moving junction box under diving board area) so tile work will have to be redone in the spring. New electric switch can wait till spring and will not impact other work.

They helped me design the pool and the person who helped me design it was very imaginative.  Everybody was great.  It took them about a month to complete the job.  They did a good job and were professional.  The pool still looks great.

FWise Pool & Spa Service, Inc.
Given the abundance of pool contractors in the Southern Maryland area and being a client of Wise Pools I cannot recommend them. Mr. Mike Wise has a fantastic personality as with all salesman who are trying to sell a service or a product. But great personalities do not make up for subpar standards of craftsmanship. The fact stands that Wise Pools does not do any of the actual "pool building". Wise pools uses other companies as subcontractors to build the pool for his pool customers. The problem with this is that "Wise Pools" has no say over the quality of work that is being installed. If the subcontractor that Wise Pools hires does bad work... tough. The subcontractors are not Wise Pools employees and will not be reprimanded or terminated for poor craftsmanship. The only person who will have to live with the poor craftsmanship is the customer who is paying $50000 for the pool. Every aspect of our pool build had some level of "poor craftsmanship" and some level of disappointment to us as the homeowner. This entire thing was not the experience we, or anyone else that is installing a large scale backyard project would want. This company will have you thinking you are losing your mind. They will tell you one thing and do something totally different. If you are looking for excellent customer service and an excellent completely satisfied pool installation process do not go here. Also do not complain about employees here this is a family owned business, you cannot place a complaint about the staff because they are all family. How do you tell the owner that his pool service tech is rude and you would prefer someone else come out to your home to handle your pool service when the service tech is the owners son and the only service tech the company has???  If you do decide to go with this company because they are the cheapest priced keep this in mind. You get what you pay for bottom line. Make sure you get everything in writing, make sure your quote has the part numbers, model numbers of the items that you are receiving with the pool. Get the filter pump model#, get the filter model number, get in writing what kind and type of pool cover you are getting because this does not happen until the end of the season and you will forget if the info is not on the quote subjecting yourself to bait and switch tactics. Wise pools will say they install solid loop-loc covers during the sales pitch and provide you with loop-loc brochures but they will install is simple tarp cover that lays on top of the water with rubber bungee straps. This is the cheapest pool cover available and this is what he provides, you will not be pleased with it as you will not be pleased with his product or process as we have not been pleased with it. Wise Pools also will not seal the expansion joint where the pools coping and the pool deck come together. If you want your pool deck to look and be complete you will need to pay an additional $700 once all the concrete has settled and Wise Pools will come back and fill the gap with a special grout (But it's part of the pool project but it is not included in the pool build price...) At this point unfortunately I chose Wise Pools as my pool builder and I chose poorly. The pool will hold water and looks good from far, but the entire process with Wise Pools has been far from good. Since conducting business with Wise Pools I would say they are not my first, or second choice for a pool builder if I ever build another pool. If you are looking for a hole in the yard that holds water, I am confident they will meet and fulfill your needs.  But, if your looking for attention to details, and excellent craftsmanship in your backyard masterpiece then my advice is look elsewhere other than Wise Pools or your project will be flawed in some way. We will not be using them for any future pool service needs once the warranty period expires.

Recent Review: They were extremely professional in their presentation. They were punctual with their estimate and getting the estimate back also. They were punctual when they came to look at the job too. When they came to look at the job they expedited every process from scratch to the final process. They built a $150,000 pool within nine days. They did a pretty good job.

Regal Construction & Remodeling Inc
Recent Review: We worked with Sean and crew for the interior work first.  We liked his professionalism, creative ideas, trustworthiness, and responsiveness.  His crew worked hard and were also conscientious.  Because our house is old, there were many existing conditions that were discovered once walls and floors were demolished which resulted in extra change orders.  But this would have happened with any company.  We found Sean and team to be trustworthy and in general very pleasant to work with.  The office staff are super nice too and dealt well with city for permits etc.  We liked Regal so much that we asked them to do a big exterior renovation as well.  We love our house inside and out.  Anybody who knew the BEFORE situation are blown away by the changes.  We recommend Regal to our friends and would definitely use them again for any renovation work.

J & G Landscape Design Inc
Recent Review: He dose landscaping but he also does design work. He is very good at it. For any pool design, patio design and landscaping design I would call J & G Landscaping company. I think he prices his job. He comes out generally and will give me an estimate then I can decide what I can afford and what I don’t want. He comes out and looks at the landscape and he listens to what the home owner wants. Then he will prepare a bid and it’s a written bid. I keep using them because of their professionalism. They are a mark of a very good company especially in landscaping. The people that work for Jeff and his brother Greg, they stay with the company. They have a real dedication to their workers and their workers are well paid. I am impressed with that. During the holidays they do all kinds of things with their workers. They have family events for their worker’s family. This is hard, hard back breaking work. They are apparently paying them very well and they are treating them very well. That’s the kind of company I hire. I will not say they are cheap. I have Jeff come out and we talk about what’s going to be done. He doesn’t bargain. I get a fair days jobs work for a fair days pay. He is worth it. Given the fact that he pays his people well, I wouldn’t want him to cut corners. I have an appointment with him in 2 weeks.

It came out beautifully. ?We are very happy and recommend Carolina Creations if you are planning to have a pool.

Swimming Pool Installation Q & A:

What factors should I consider before adding a swimming pool?

For above-ground pools, installation involves clearing a suitable, flat area, assembling the pool, installing the liner, filling the pool, and adding accessories like heaters, cleaners and decks. In-ground pool installation is far more involved, requiring significant excavation and site preparation. Four main choices:

  • Concrete
  • Fiberglass
  • Vinyl liner
  • Gunite

Other options: pool shape, size, and depth. Yes, the installation process is complicated.

How much does installing a swimming pool near my house cost?

  • Above-ground pools installed by a local service can cost $10,000 or more, with accessories like heaters, fencing and wrap-around decks.
  • The average cost of all pools (both above- and in-ground pools) is $24,699 - prices can range from $12,368 to $37,437.
  • Do-it-yourself above-ground kits may only cost around $300.
  • In-ground pools are a serious investment that also potentially adds home value, possibly increasing the price tag by $33,000 to $57,000.

Which swimming pool installer near me should I hire?

  • Angie's List recommends that homeowners think carefully about installing a swimming pool.
  • Only hire licensed, experienced contractors.
  • Ensure all bidders have liability insurance.
  • Get three competitive bids that explain the entire scope of work.
  • Talk to an insurance rep about your homeowners insurance.
  • Read your homeowners association's rules.

What is a gunite swimming pool?

It's a swimming pool formed by spraying a concrete, mortar and sand mixture called shotcrete (also known as gunite) over a steel rebar frame in the shape of the pool. In the end, it's a durable concrete swimming pool.

While most homeowners welcome a new swimming pool, a poorly installed or poorly maintained swimming pool can decrease home value. Nothing beats the freedom and easy access of a home swimming pool on a hot summer day. Getting one is easy, but seldom inexpensive. Do your homework, and choose a swimming pool wisely.
