DBetty's Home Appliance Service
My Maytag Neptune washer was making a noise like a bearing or belt was going bad. I called Betty's for service. The service agent was terrific - professional, courteous, and easy to get a time scheduled. I can't say the same about the technician. He was grumpy, rude, and came full of attitude. He wouldn't answer simple questions like "How long do Maytag washers typically last?" The answer I got was "I cant answer that question" spoken with disdain. I'm sorry, but you service washers every day. One would think you have some form of insight on this, certainly far more than I do! Every time I tried to solicit some idea if this was typical for a 7 year Maytag washer or not I got an unprofessional response. I gave the technician a piece of my mind and prepared to throw him out but I needed the washer fixed (with house full of kids). Turns out the washer didn't make the sound when I ran it for the technician (of course) so I paid the minimum service charge and threw the guy out.

Original point of contact when asked concerning the charge for a house call told us that there was a $70.00 charge for all house calls plus any parts and labor. The repairman did not know what he was to do when he arrived at our house. He did not do anything to the washing machine except look at it.He stated machine was not repairable as Maytag no longer existed. He said it would probably cost $2000 to repair. It was his suggestion that we use the washer as it was until it would not work any longer. When pressed to tell us what was the problem he said it was probably the ball bearings and the entire drum assembly would have to be replaced. All this without looking into the machine or starting the machine. When he was ready to leave I presented him with a check for the agreed amount of $70.00. He said that would not cover the house call as he charged $129.00. He went to the truck and return stating that he had called his company and they agreed that the house call was indeed $129..00 not the originally agreed to $70.00.

The service man was very prompt and had called to let me even know he was on his way. Within 5 minutes, the service person had determined where the noise was coming from and had it fixed in 10-15 minutes more.   I had apparently caused some damage to a cover plate on the lower front part of the washer when we tipped it when the dryer vent cleaners had been here trying to check the back of the dryer.   A belt or motor poly (??) was hitting the plate and he removed the plate from the machine and said that should be alright as I had the washer on a hard surface (not a rug or carpet).   No more horrible noise anymore and the washer seems to be working just fine now.   Will keep these folks in mind for when I need some other appliance checked out or fixed.

Called for appointment at 0830 and they scheduled for between 10AM and 2PM.  Sonny arrived about 1PM after calling, diagnosed a broken pump by the sound, and replaced the pump and belt within a hour.  All very professional.

Our Maytag washing machine stopped working about a week ago and would not pump the water and was leaking. The service guy came out after two phone calls to the office during the scheduled time period.  He was courteous and told me our Maytag washing machine needed a new pump.  He replaced the pump and then left. This was Saturday afternoon on October 24th. On Sunday when I tried to wash some clothes, the washing machine continued to leak and would not pump the water completely out.  The service technician came back and determined that the leak was due to a damaged drain hose but he did not replace it saying I could do it. I have gone to Home Depot and Sear's appliance center and apparently the hose is not an easy item to find and replace. I think that since this problem was present BEFORE the repair technician came over that this hose issue should have been discovered during the diagnostic phase of his repair and replaced at the same time.   We still have a washing machine that leaks despite a $369.00 repair bill.

The technician, Mr. Singh, arrived on time and took the front off the machine. He quickly determined that the transmission had broken. He told us that he could order the part and fix the machine for $800. I was surprised and impressed when he candidly told us that we'd be better off buying a new washer since ours was 11 years old. Since Atlantic doesn't sell new machines, the company missed out on a repair job, but Mr. Singh's integrity earned him our repeat business. (We bought a new washing machine the next day---$500!)

After Corey had diagnosed the problem back in Dec, we were left with a decision...a new washer or a very expensive repair. After looking I was very disappointed with the washers on the market. In the meantime, our frig had a problem, and when Corey came to take care of it, he explained that the company had gotten a new tool and was doing a trial fix on a washer with a similar problem. It would be a cheaper repair, than first suggested. The repair was a success...So, Corey did the repair on my washer also...and now,I am doing my wash without sounding like It is going to the moon.

My 10 year old Maytag front loader would not do the final spin. Called them on a Thursday morning and the repairman came out that afternoon when I would be back at home. The problem was perplexing as it could have been a number of (expensive) things, including the control board or motor board. He decided to order both (neither was available in stock anywhere in the Washington area as he called while he was here) but they wouldn't arrive until Monday. After he left, he called and returned as he discovered that he had a latch assembly in his truck for this machine and that could possible be the issue. He swapped them out. It wasn't. He returned Monday afternoon with both boards. Tried one and no change. Tried the other, then realized that they had sent the control board for the matching dryer. While continuing to troubleshoot the issue, he discovered that a balance switch wasn't working. Whether the switch was faulty or wasn't getting the right signal from the control board took a lot of painstaking trials. He finally figured out that the switch had a poor connection. He redid the connection - and it worked! However, when he heard the full spin cycle I got the bad news that the main bearing for the drum motor was failing. I had noticed the spin cycle being much louder than usual, and this is the cause. He recommended just using the washer until the main bearing failed and then buy a new one. For the two trips and all the time he spent here, he still only charged the basic service call fee of $49.

The technician came at the time they quoted with the price the quoted. The technician did have difficulty with the install and called for help. Another technician came to assist. They spent three hours with no additional charge. When I called to schedule the repair they gave me options and explained the process and the possible costs involved. They also accommodated my schedule on short notice

On April 7, 2015 a technician (Omar) from DAR came to repair my 10+ year old washer which was leaking water into the tub during and after the wash cycle. The technician took the washer apart and installed a  water valve.  The repair cost me $308.  I was very rushed because I had to travel overseas to handle an emergency situation.  I traveled on April 10th and did not use the washer since it had been repaired.  Upon my return on April 21st, I had to follow up with several serious pending issues, so I was not able to organize my disarrayed apartment till a few days later.  I washed 2 loads of laundry.  I found that the washer filled, agitated and drained the water but did not spin.  The clothes were clean but soaking wet which spun 1-1/2 hours in the dryer.  I called DAR, explained the situation explaining that I had just paid $308 for a repair and would not be surprised that during the initial repair, the technician may have caused the damage to the spin cycle. Also the warranty was still in place.  I was ranting, raving AND extremely stressed because in addition to a pile of issues, now this.  DAR said they would handle this new repair free of cost.  They sent a technician (Aziz) on April 28th.  The appointment was from 3-6PM.  At 5:30pm I called DAR to locate the technician.  They told me he had car problems and this may be the reason for the delay.  I said this was not my problem?.just get me a technician.  The technician promptly called that he was stuck in traffic and would arrive within 40 minutes.  He arrived at 7PM with another man.  I did not know who this person was and was not introduced----no explanation.  I was a little skeptical because the technician seemed a little confused and did not know how to navigate the dials on the washer.  To check the spin cycle, I had to show him to push the dial to ?SPIN?.  He decided to open the washer and had some difficulty also. .  After checking he told me the pulleys were in good shape.  Great!  What?s causing the problem?  I said.  He checked further and finally told me it was a damaged part and most likely the DAR warehouse would have it in stock.  He would call first thing the next morning to get the part and arrange the installation on Thursday, April 30th.  I said that was ok because Wednesday, April 29th I would be out of the house.  Being a little wary of this situation, on Wednesday I called DAR; John, the dispatcher told me the technician had never called them and was fixing his car. He tried to contact the technician and after several hours, John told me they didn?t have the part.  They had to order it and it would arrive in (3) days.  The issue was a Drive Block.  To calm me down, he tentatively scheduled an appointment on Monday, May 4th from 9AM-12PM.  I called on Monday, May4th at 10AM to check if the part arrived. John had been trying to contact Aziz without success.  This is not first time.  Aziz does not respond to DAR?s calls quickly.  At 11AM I was called that the technician was on his way and it would take about 30 minutes. After almost 2 hours and disassembling the washer, Aziz told me it could not be repaired and it would be best to purchase a new washer.  I had asked him this on his first visit and he said it would not be necessary.  The washer could be repaired.  He profusely apologized for not advising me correctly.  I would have already had a new washer in my apartment.    I have been a DAR customer for a number of years. They had repaired my fridge and my dryer very well without any issues.  And the technicians were very courteous and competent.  No problems!  However, seems that DAR is going downhill.  I have now read several recent bad reviews in Angie?s List in addition to mine.  Needless to say, I was very angry with the incompetence and lack of organization with DAR.  The manner DAR handles their business is not my problem.  I just want good service for which I am willing to pay a reasonable price.  It never occurred to them to call me if the technician was going to be late due to car problems----which, BTW, is, again, not my problem. They lack good CUSTOMER SERVICE.   I asked about the other man who accompanied the technician.  It was his ?assistant?.  I had spoken with John who was the only person with a little sense and who tried hard to resolve all these issues.  Another dispatcher, Ana, said that the owner, Adam Euchi, would speak with me, as if that were a threat.  I said it would be my pleasure to let him know how badly he was running his business and he was about to lose another customer in addition to the bad review he was about to receive. She also always spoke as if in a hurry without any interest in hearing the issues. This whole mess could have been resolved by just telling me from the beginning that my old washer could not be repaired and to buy a new washer.  I'll be buying a new washer and looking for a new appliance repairman!   +

I have dealt with this company in the past for fridge and microwave repairs, because Maytag/Whirlpool always uses them for warranty repairs, and had fine experiences. The techs are usually punctual and competent. However, things changed this time as I was dealing with them outside of a warranty. I found the customer service and policies of the office staff to be among the worst I have ever experienced. I can only assume it is the warranty work that keeps them in business. So at the beginning of this experience, I actually did have a warranty that I had purchased from Maytag. The tech came out to diagnose the washer leak. He said the part had to be ordered. After he left, I cancelled the warranty that I had purchased (I figured that I might save $ by paying out of pocket instead). I called VIA's office to explain this change, and also to ask for the exact diagnosis of the problem in writing. When I told the rep (Crystal) that I no longer had the warranty, her tone immediately changed and she became rather short with me, and kept saying that she had to collect a payment from me immediately for the first time they came out. The company seemed to care much more about getting their $130 on the spot than maintaining a good relationship with the customer. I did end up paying her the $130 for the first service call, b/c I wanted her to give me the official diagnosis in writing. That diagnosis turned out to be wrong, which I found out later on when I hired a different company. Then I had to decide whether or not to use VIA to do the actual repair. The part that they diagnosed as needing to be replaced was the bleach dispenser. The rep told me it was ~$40 for the part and ~$110 for the labor to install it. Here is the unbelievable part: she said that in order for them to order the part, I had to pay her by credit card over the phone, for the part AND the labor to install it. Unheard of. When I expressed my incredulity with such a policy, the rep told me to hold, and she went and checked with her superior, I assume, and came back and told me that if I preferred, I could pay for only the part right then, and they would order it, and when the tech came to my house, I would have to pay him for the labor BEFORE he installed the part. This still would be a risky deal for me. I went back and forth with the rep and asked to speak with her supervisor. At first she tried to dissuade me by saying that the supervisor would tell me the same things that she was telling me. I persisted and she put me on hold for a long time. She came back and said that no supervisor is available. I asked when one would be available. She had no answer, no idea whether one would be available today or tomorrow. She did not offer to take a message and have one call me back. I had to ASK HER to have a supervisor call me back. She was very short and brusque at this point, but said she would pass on the message. No big surprise here, but no supervisor ever called me back. I eventually found another company to do the diagnosis and repair. If I had had VIA do the repair, the leak would not have been remedied b/c it was the wrong diagnosis, and I would have already paid for it in full. Based on my experience with them, I would never want to be in the situation of trying to get a refund from them. I have *never* had a contractor come to my house and expect payment before the repair was performed. I would never use this company again.

This was a great experience.  Chuck came when scheduled and diagnosed a worn out motor - not unreasonable for a 28 yr old machine.  He had to order the motor and promised to reschedule when the part arrived. He came back once he had the motor but stated that he thought the problem over some more and thought that a new pulley would solve the problem.  He installed the new pulley and drive belt and problem solved.  This guy is extraordinarily honest.  I was prepared to spend much more for a new motor yet he fixed it for 1/3 the price.  He was prompt, punctual, neat, and I'll say it again extraordinarily honest.  I recommend him without reservation.

The technician was very professional. For the  first visit, he checked out the machine, said he would have to check on the availability and price of parts, and then provide an estimate. For the second visit he replaced the parts, but instructed us not to use the machine for 24 hours because the replaced parts were glued in with a high temperature adhesive. He could not test the machine for the same reason. When we used the machine, it still vibrated. Two days later, the technician made adjustments and the machine is much more stable. Not perfect, but it is 27 years old.

The technician was scheduled to arrive between 8 am and 12 noon. At 1:30pm he called and told me he was going to lunch and would arrive after, he asked me to explain the issue with the washer which I texted pictures of the broken knob. At 2:45 he called and told me he was going on another call nearby while he determined if he could get the part. He called again at 5:30pm to tell me that he needed to order the part and that I needed to give him a credit card authorization for over $500 in charges for what I found out later was a $151.17 part. I refused and suggested that I'd go back to Lowe's where I bought the machine and he said that Lowe's used them for their service anyway so I might as well just pay now. Maytag customer service referred me elsewhere.

Recent Review: Waleed came out to look at Maytag Washer problems. He ordered a replacement pump. He came back with Donald. Donald said that the pump was clogged and could be cleaned out without replacing it. Dismantled pump and removed a bobby pin stuck in it. Donald put back the inner drum I took apart before they came. I was trying to put top of drum upside down, so it would not fit. Waleed lubed brake and washer works fine now.
