Just as I was getting ready to leave on vacation, my 21-year-old General Electric washing machine stopped dead in the middle of a load. I absolutely did not have time that week to research, shop for, and arrange delivery of a new unit; I just wanted my old one up and running quickly. I needed clean clothes for vacation! I called my fabulous regular appliance guy; he couldn't fit me into his schedule that week, but he recommended that I call Alco. I sure am glad I did--everything about Alco was terrific. They responded to my call immediately and scheduled a service appointment for the very next day. They provided a 2-hour appointment window, and the technician, Jason, showed up right on time. Jason was terrific--friendly, courteous, careful, thorough, and very very knowledgeable. He immediately diagnosed the problem and set about solving it. He did not try to pressure me into buying a new machine, despite the age of my machine and despite the fact that Alco does sell new appliances. Alco is clearly a company that understands the value of keeping good appliances running as long as possible. Jason was straightforward and generous about sharing information; he described the condition of the machine's other components, explained how I would know when it really was time to replace the unit, and provided helpful suggestions about what to consider when I do buy a new washer. The icing on the cake: the entire visit was only $135. When I went back through my records, I saw that I'd had the exact same job (replacing water pump) done by a different company eight years ago--for $165! No wonder Washington Consumer Checkbook gives Alco its check rating for both quality and value. I am very happy with my experience with this company and will definitely call them again--and will probably buy my next washing machine from them when the time finally comes.

ArcNet repair services review for services performed on 19 May 2020 Wendell was very responsive and answered my call first thing in the morning. He really didn’t have time to do the job the same day but because our freezer food was thawing out, he prioritized and came to repair the fridge at 7:30 at night after he had met all his other commitments for the day. This dedication and customer service was greatly appreciated. The issue and task were clear and agreed upon. Wendell and Howard were professional and did a good job and the issue appears to be resolved. Our only real issue was the charge of $150 for 12.5 oz of R132 and $200 for the 45 minutes or so of labor (no parts were changed and no diagnostics were performed). There was no discussion of cost up front (candidly i felt pressured to get someone out right away and I should have asked for trip charge and expected project charge). Overall, I was pleased with the job and really appreciated him coming out the same day especially so late in the evening and with the work. However, I am not happy with what I felt was too high of a charge.

The owner of the business came out, assessed and explained the problem, told me he would have to order the part from GE and cautioned me that GE was notoriously slow in providing these parts.

Unfortunately I must leave a poor review for this company, as they took money to diagnose a problem and 1.) never got back to me with the quote after multiple weeks and 2.) When finally prompted, quoted an EXORBITANT price. $498 to replace the timer on my stackable GE Washer (Found on Internet for $48 New.) Luckily I did not pay that fee and the problem was determined to be a misaligned knob, and was fixed for free by the next company.

I have a high end (~$7,000) standalone, built-in GE freezer (BTW, I'll never buy another GE again, but that's another story) and it stopped cooling. I called GE service, waited 3 days for a GE guy to come out, he canceled at the last minute and then was having problems to get them to reschedule. So I gave up on GE and I tried searching on Angie's list. About 10 minutes after I responded that I needed help on Angie's list, I got a call from Scott who told me over the phone what he thought was causing the problem, how much he thought it would cost to fix and offered to come out the next day to look at it and confirm (since it sounded expensive). Long story short, it was an expensive fix and I never got any other bids from anyone else, so I can't tell you if I got a good price or not, but he was very responsive, very polite and seemed honest. I would definitely call him again with other appliance problems.

Complete disappointment... after 20 to 30 minutes the technician provides you an estimate for (parts and labor) and then he leaves, not without taking your credit card information before leaving of course (then he says to let him know your decision as soon as possible since they will need to order the parts). Kind of sketchy? don't your think? Since the repairs estimates for our GE Electric Range Stove and a GE Washer were ridiculously expensive I?m sure they know well that for sure you will not take their services. The next day we went ahead purchasing new appliances. The truth is that I wanted to try the repairs route but confirmed after this visit that you are always better off buying new that losing your money and time trying to extend the life of your appliances. I'm sure that this company makes a big portion of its money with the visits fee since nobody in their right state of mind will have the repairs done with the estimates they present. At the end of the day the owners of Silver Spring Appliance know that no matter what... they will collect the service charge of $60.00 for their inconvenience... which multiplied by few visits per day? you get the point, is not a bad situation for them. Another annoying thing is that they mention a $50.00 service charge when scheduling your appointment, but at the end they charge you $10.00 more when their charge is finally processed.

I contacted GE Consumer Home Services after Discount Service told me they could not fix my refrigerator. Since it was a GE Profile I contacted GE. They asked me if I had a service tech of theirs check it and I said no because to get an appointment usually takes a week and a half to two weeks. I was calling GE because they needed to follow up to see if they could fix my refrigerator which was only 5 years and two months old. GE put me on hold and when the operator came back on she told me she could have a tech at my house the next day. The tech came and spent about 45 minutes checking things on the refrigerator. His conclusion was it could not be fixed and they charged me $99.99 for the service call on their product that was only 5 years and two months old and could not be fixed. Discount Appliance did not charge me for two service calls they made because the refrigerator could not be fixed. I will not buy GE Appliances any longer in the future and I am going to contact GE customer service to see if I can get my money back for the service call.

When I called & gave the model number, he didn't even have to ask what was wrong to know what parts to bring. (Unit was running all the time and set to coldest, but temperatures not cold enough.) Made same day appointment then called to ask whether he could come early. PJ (the owner) put on booties upon arrival, looked & listened, gave me the price, then went to his truck for the right part! Installed it in about 45 minutes, then cleaned behind the fridge for no extra cost! (I have back issues and cannot move it.) Used the Angie's List coupon for a nice discount. Hard to say what someone else would charge, but I think I got great service and value.

Recent Review: All of a sudden my dryer started making a lot of noise as though it had a ton of bricks in it. I contacted Superior Appliance Services with a message through Angie's list and Ben responded less than an hour later. He was very accommodating and worked within my schedule to send a technician out to diagnose the problem. I actually had a tech out the same day! Zhou (sp?) showed up  diagnosed the problem (cracked drum) then he and Ben helped me find the most economical replacement and then came back and installed the drum without any issues. They were very accommodating and worked within my schedule. Also, they were very open and honest about the repair. They took the time to educate me about my dryer, its lifespan, and how cost effective the repair would be.  I am completely satisfied with the level and quality of service that I received. I feel as though I got my money's worth and more! I know that the next time I have an issue with any of my appliances, I will call Superior Appliance Services first!!!
