I just moved into my house and found out that the pinhole gas leak in my fireplace had still not been fixed by the previous owner.  Instead of messing with the old vendor I decided to have an expert company come out and fix it along with give me an analysis of the gas fireplace.  After much research I chose James A. Wheat & Sons, Inc and I am glad that I did.   Not only did they fix the fireplace gas leak but installed a much need damper clamp.  They also did an evaluation of the fireplace and gave me options to add more features (like a remote to turn off and on) and they told me that my logs were still good suggested that I replace my sand and other accessories.  After doing such a great and quick job in fixing the leak?I then decided to have them ?rejuvenate? the fireplace and they made it look like new for a few dollars. The young man from James A. Wheat & Sons, Inc. was on time, professional, and very knowledgeable.  I would highly recommend James A. Wheat & Sons, Inc for fireplace work and any other services that they provide.

I talked to many installers sent by fireplace stores and no one wanted to do this job. Gary made it work by hooking a gas line to an existing gas dryer line and finding a unit that fit the fireplace opening. He installed it in one day and it's beautiful and warm!

AAmazing Flame Gas Fireplace Service & Repair
Scott was very friendly and professional. We were having problems with the fireplace not lighting consistently. He cleaned the pilot light and replaced the switch. He also discovered a gas leak, which he fixed. We had a cold draft at the bottom of the fireplace and he saw that it was because there was a large hole in the fire box where the gas line enters but the rest of the hole was wide open. He sealed it with tape, which has eliminated the draft.  He also fixed the glass which wasn't properly installed. Very worthwhile visit, would definitely use this company again for any fireplace servicing.

APLUMBED TO PERFECTION
My husband and I purchased a foreclosed home that had 2 gas fireplace inserts.  When we attempted to use them, they smelled like they had gas leaks.  We called Plumbed to Perfection to inspect and clean them. Jim and Nikki came to our house during the scheduled day.  They were unable to give us an exact time, but they called before they showed up. Jim and Nikki were very careful not to mess up anything in the house.  They took off their shoes and laid down moving blankets on which to place the disassembled fireplace items.  They fully explained what they were doing as they cleaned the fireplace and gave us tips about installing carbon monoxide detectors. When Jim went to reassemble the fireplaces, both glass fronts would not seal.  He indicated that this was highly unusual and told us that he would research the problem with the manufacturer and get back to us.  In the meantime, he instructed us not to use the fireplaces. After a week and a half, I talked with Nikki.  She said that it would be over $2,200 to buy new glass fronts for the fireplaces.  Both Jim and Nikki thought the price was outrageous, and wanted to try something different to see if the existing fireplace fronts would seal. The next time that Jim was in our area, he had us open the windows and start the fireplaces.  He waited an hour before he arrived at our house.  Jim heard that he might be able to get the fireplaces to seal if they were heated. Jim inspected both fireplaces, and we were happy to discover that this worked to seal them. Jim did not charge us for the second visit.  He is incredibly knowledgeable, and we would definitely use him again.

Had purchased the $99 Gas Log Fireplace Tune-Up since I hadn't used my Gas Fireplace for a while.   Scheduling was quick and easy and they were able to get someone out 6 days later on my day off.   Chris (the tech)  was nice and friendly and even arrived an hour early (giving me plenty of notice). Chris did the normal maintenance stuff, checked for gas leaks, cleaned the fireplace area.    He also noted that the fireplace didn't always start up using the wall switch and reaffirmed what a different company had said the previous year that the low voltage wire was going bad.  While he was there I had him install a Remote Control to start the fireplace so I could bypass the wall switch (it has been perfect ever since). They did at first install the wrong brand, but quickly came back out and replaced it for me.  Would definitely consider using them again.

AJames Hoskins
Mr Hoskins did an outstanding job for us.  Our fireplace had been out of commission for some time.  The issue started when another service contractor had 'cleaned' the unit.  That contractor indicated the unit was too old (10 years) and the entire fireplace would need to be replaced.  We balked at the $10k price tag.  We decided to get another opinion.  We selected James Hoskins hoping for an experienced professional (he is a one man operation).  He quickly diagnosed the problem and showed us the issue.  He then patiently walked me through each step of the repair, and demonstrated that the system was safe and fully operational.  He clearly takes a great deal of pride in doing a quality job.  I'd recommend James Hoskins to anyone with gas fireplace maintenance or repair needs.

I claimed an Angie’s List special. Within hours, I received an email offering a suggested time and date. I accepted by return email. The appointment was several weeks out. I received periodic notices by email reminding me of the appointment and providing relevant information. Bill Wammoth notified me prior to the appointment time that he was ready to head over to my location. He showed up on time, was very professional, amiable and seemed competent to a lay person. He found an issue requiring repair, offered a reasonable cost to repair; and, promptly performed that service after I authorized it. My wife and I were very pleased with this experience.

AWammoth Services
Bill Watson of Wammoth Services provided excellent servicing of our gas fireplace.  The full process from contacting the provider on Angies List getting an appointment to having the fireplace serviced could not have been easier.  Many of the other companies that were contacted had very long lead times or much higher prices for the same service with mixed reviews.  I prepaid for the service on Angie's List and had no issues getting the initial appointment set then moved to another date when I had a conflict with my original date. They were able to get me another appointment very quickly (2 weeks), again very different then some of the other companies that were scheduling dates 1-2 months in advance at much higher prices. Mr. Watson arrived during the appointment window (3:30-5:30) and made sure to call when he was leaving his previous appointment so I would know when to expect him to arrive.  He had brought all of his tools for servicing the fireplace and was very pleasant/friendly when he rang my doorbell.  He then proceeded to spend the next 60 min., carefully dismantling and cleaning the fireplace screen/glass/interior logs as well as carefully cleaning all around the interior.   Nothing was rushed and he properly laid out a drop cloth to ensure dirt/dust was not spread around the fireplace or on my rugs/floor.  Part of the inspection also involved testing for gas leaks with a gas leak sensor and he made sure to check all areas carefully. He made sure everything was re-installed and tested and even added small metallic "wool" balls that were previously not there to give the impression of burning embers when the fire was lit. The fireplace looked brand new by the time he was completed. Before finishing he explained the operation of fireplace to me along with instructions on how to restart the pilot if it ever went out to save me the trouble of having to call him if the pilot ever blew out due to a draft or heavy winds that somehow made their way into the fireplace from the outside vent. He also walked out side and did a quick visual inspection of the outside vent area to ensure it looked ok and the proper screen/protections were in place to ensure the exhaust could be vented and screened to keep birds/small animals from entering the vent area and causing a fire hazard. I would highly recommend this company for any other members looking for this service and would not hesitate to use Bill and Wammoth Services for any other services associated with my gas fireplace.

CNice Heating & Air
The service was done professionally, however, there was plenty unnecessary sales pitch for a job that could have been done in a straight unambiguous manner. My wife had to constantly be on the phone with me to decide between spending 2800$ on redoing the whole fireplace versus figuring out how best to proceed in turning on the pilot and having it work.  Between the cost of redoing the fireplace and fixing things at around 550$, after much to and fro, the suggestion offered was to clean up the fireplace, clean the pilot and other metal parts associated with the burning of the the fireplace for another 126$ and 126$ for replacing the embers, then gauge what else would be needed. I had to be stern to indicate that if i am going to spend about 252$ (126+126) i need to know if the fireplace will work. Such uncertainty is not a pleasant experience when a technician could easily do what is necessary and indicate if the pilot will turn ON or not and if it needs to be replaced.  In all, i had to ask my wife to just have him clean the pilot and confirm if the gas line was working at 126$. Between the kids and the technician, and the constant phone call's i was fed up and asked my wife to tell him to proceed if he could make the fireplace WORK . So, in all for both the cleaning of the fireplace, cleaning the pilot flue and replenishing the embers, after a work order credit of 100$ as per the offer purchased , i ended up paying an additional 152$ .  In all, to get the fireplace working, when all original parts were still intact i spend, 99$ (offer purchased) + 152$ , plus all the constant sales push.

We are getting our house ready for sale and having trade experts come out to inspect and service infrastructure items in our house.  Today was fireplace day.  We had a 25-yr old+ gas fireplace that came with the house but was an eye sore and looked so bad that we were afraid to turn it on.  Had we stayed in the house we would eventually replaced it with something new.  But for now, we just needed an inspection and service.   Based on Angie's List reviews, I selected Mr. Hoskins because he seemed to do great work for a very reasonable price.  The reviews were right on target.  Mr. Hoskins showed up early, inspected the gas fireplace, and promptly failed it due to a gas leak.  Learned that you should have your fireplace regularly serviced much like your fireplace.  Live and learn.... When I explained to Mr. Hoskins that I'm trying to get the house ready for sale and don't want to spend a lot of money--I just need a serviceable gas fireplace--he worked his magic.  He rebuilt my gas fireplace and made it look amazing.  He rerouted the gas lines, installed a new gas cut-off valve, added lava rock, got the burners going again, and tested and retested the work he did to ensure no gas leaks.  He guaranteed his work and would come back for free if there were problems.  He patiently explained everything he was doing while I watched him work so I could learn how the whole thing works.  When the Hubs came home he was flabbergasted at the great transformation to our fireplace--all for a very reasonable price.   Like most folks, I have my list of favorite contractors to work in my house.  I've added Mr. Hoskins to the list.  He saved us a lot of money by being creative in solving my problematic fireplace and providing me with a very elegant solution.

Bill Watson, the company owner, not only diagnosed the initial problem we had that was caused by a improper repair by another company, but he spotted a crack in our burner (which the other company had missed) which was leaking gas and could have led to a catastrophic explosion. Bill literally saved me and my family. He calmly and thoroughly explained everything that he was doing and everthing that needed to be done. He was extremely knowledgeable, courteous and thorough. I have learned the hard way that when it comes to a complex gas system like a fireplace, to only go with the best company that specialized in this area. That's Wammoth Services.

Ask yourself these questions to help find reliable service for quality gas fireplace repair near you.

What are common problems with gas fireplaces?

Two overriding problems are common to gas fireplaces, almost always leading to gas fireplace repair work for a local service:

  • Gas fireplace will not light — this could be a clogged pilot light, broken thermopile, closed gas valve, or (in older models) a faulty thermocouple
  • Flue venting — Even with clean-burning propane or natural gas, deposits can build up in the flue, blocking combustion gases from escaping; this is extremely dangerous

What parts typically need gas fireplace repair?

Electronic or electric ignitions often require professional service to adjust or replace them. Other parts that require replacement or repair:

  • Thermopiles, sensors that converts electrical impulses into thermal energy to ignite the gas, can fail and are easily replaced by a professional
  • Gas burners can become clogged with dust and debris, leading to an impure burn (fluttering flames) and weak flames
  • Gas valves can either not open to allow gas to flow for ignition, or they may leak when closed; sniff for the tell-tale stink of the additive gas, methyl mercaptan, used to signal a gas leak

How much should gas fireplace repair near me cost?

Angie's List research found you should expect a $100 average charge for a service call, with costs of around $150 for pilot light repair.
