AThe Upholstery Shop
The upholstering work is top notch! The stool is very solid and nice. The pillows are beautiful. There were some issues but we are happy with the work in the end. A true mark of any business is how they take care of the issues and here is where they excelled. The chair and pillows were delivered a week late (no call that it would not be on time). The stool, which had to be custom made was much later than that (was promised the same time as the chair). There was a problem with the stool. I am not sure where the measurements for the stool height were obtained (though I admit it was signed off on) but the stool was several inches higher than the chair seat. I am surprised someone did not notice when they had the chair and before making the stool but it was not desirable when it was delivered. However, they totally reworked the stool to make it the right height. This required reconfiguring the stool and then taking the feet off later. The stool is solid and looks great with the chair. Fixing the stool, which had been signed off on, was done at their expense to make my mother happy. The markdown on professionalism is because they were not very communicative (my mom had to call them almost every time to find out about missed deliveries).

AYoder's Furniture III
This summer we completely redecorated our kitchen.  As part of the remodel, I wanted to get a table and chairs that really matched the room.  I looked and looked but was unable to find something that truly matched the room.  We have a Mennonite made dining room set and I had heard that there are Amish carpenters in St. Mary's County, so I decided to try to find one. After a bit of internet searching, I came across the name of Yoder's Furniture on N. Ryceville Rd. in Mechanicsville.  There is a family of carpenters, each specializing in a different type of furniture.  Yoder's Furniture III does tables.  (He told me that none of the Amish craftsmen in Southern Maryland make chairs anymore and that they obtain their chairs from Amish carpenters in Ohio.) I will say at the outset that this may not be the most CONVENIENT purchase you will ever make.  The Amish are not allowed to have phones in their homes (or businesses, I guess!).  But I think they are allowed to share them to receive calls.  So Mr. Yoder pays someone to stand by a phone somewhere on the property for a TEN MINUTE WINDOW.  (From 8:00 - 8:10 each morning.)  I never felt it would be a good idea to try to make changes to my order by speaking to a third party in a short time like this, so I drove several times to Mr. Yoder's workshop to talk to him directly.  The workshop is only a few minutes from Rte 5 in Mechanicsville.  It's an easy drive and made the furniture order feel like kind of an adventure to me.  The turnaround time for my kitchen set was surprisingly short.  I first talked to Mr. Yoder in July and he delivered my set on September 30.  (In comparison, there is currently at least a four month wait for the Mennonite carpenter I'd used in Pennsylvania.)  I told him that I was having a birthday celebration and would really like to have the kitchen complete in time for it and he made sure that the table was ready for me when I needed it. Mr. Yoder was VERY responsive to my requests.  I originally had ordered a pedestal table and then my husband told me that he really, REALLY didn't want a pedestal.  So I went back to his shop to talk to him and found out he was a bit more backed up than he'd thought and he (luckily!) hadn't started the order.  The conversation went a bit like: Me:               I'm so relieved you didn't start to build my furniture yet. Mr. Yoder:    I wouldn't have let you take it if it wasn't what you wanted. Me:               I'd never expect you to take a loss because I changed my mind. Mr. Yoder:  I would have been able to sell it to someone else. That conversation really blew me away.  He got out several catalogs and we went through them, discussing my options.  I wasn't sure what I wanted but knew that none of the tables in these catalogs was quite it.  So, he went to get another catalog and grabbed a photo of a table he'd made previously.  THIS one was perfect.  It was called something like a Tuscan Farmhouse table.  My kitchen style is very Tuscan and this table had just the feel that I was searching for. I wanted a two toned table and chair set.  I bought the stain and glaze that matched my cabinets from the cabinet company.  Luckily, Mr. Yoder tried it out while I was at his workshop.  The stain was perfect.  The glaze was far too light (because it collects in the grooves of the cabinet doors, it becomes much darker than it would if spread normally on a surface.)  Mr. Yoder grabbed a bucket of the darkest stain he had and it was perfect for what I wanted. I asked Mr. Yoder to make the back of my chairs two-toned.  (Normally, you just see the seat stained a different color than the rest of the chair.)  He'd never done this before but said he'd be willing to try.  I also wanted the table to be two toned.  (I had a defective cabinet door that I left with him as a guide for matching the stain.)  I wanted the edge of the table top to match the edge on my granite countertop.  (He called it "Thumbnail."  The granite people called it "Dupont."  Regardless of the name, I got a matching edge.)    So I got EXACTLY the table I wanted.  Stained the way I wanted, in the dimensions I wanted.  The workmanship is wonderful.  The pieces are incredibly solid.  Mr. Yoder was very accomodating of my requests.  The table just sets off the room.  I couldn't have found a better fit anywhere. I would recommend him to anyone who wants a beautifully made kitchen or dining room set.  You'll get cheaper furniture at a lot of stores, but I think his price is very fair for the quality of his workmanship and materials. I also ordered a medicine cabinet for a bathroom.  I will do a review on that later when I pick it up.

I never have any issues with Hardwood ARtisans. From the design, to the measurements, to the workers, to the delivery, they are just outstanding. The way they treat the furniture is wonderful. They are very professional. They don't bump into things and are very careful with all of the furniture. They can easily refinish furniture and it is as beautiful as it was before.

AArt Woodstone Studio - Custom Furniture
Given the excellent rating Art Woodstone Studio received on Angie's List, I contacted Tea for a quote.  She and her partner came to the house and reviewed what I was looking for, took ample measurements, dialogued on possible variations (eg - wood, stain, etc), and took into consideration the style of my existing furniture.  They were both incredibly gracious, thoughtful, and patient.  I had to be minimally flexible on what I wanted as both Tea and her partner were insistent that they could deliver high quality, custom wood furniture that looks like it came from an exclusive retail outlet. Several days later, they provided a quote that was a bit higher than a competing quote.  However, they were willing in this case to match the price.  I went with my gut and chose Art Woodstone Studio.   A number of weeks later, they delivered the new furniture and I couldn't be more pleased.  The two corner tables in the dining room are absolutely perfect in presentation, quality, and color/stain.  Both tables feel and appear to be well built, though I look forward to testing that out over time.  The third and final corner table behind the couch was equally perfect though more spartan and simple by design. I am very pleased with the work that they did and would recommend them to all.  In fact, I may have them bid on a couple more pieces I intend to have made.  I hope they're bid comes in low/reasonable, as I'd like to use them again!

I purchased a dining room table three years ago and at the time of the purchase, I was given the option to buy an additional table leaf (it came with one leaf). I didn't buy the additional leaf and after living with the table for a couple of years, I realized I made a huge mistake. I contacted the manufacturer to see if I could still buy a leaf, but unfortunately, the table style had been discontinued. I contacted Art Woodstone Studio after visiting their website and reading all their amazing reviews on Angie's List. I knew immediately after meeting Tea and George that if anyone would be able to make make another leaf for my table, they would! Tea and George were so wonderful to work with. They are true artists! George duplicated my existing leaf right down to the stain color. It looks so good, I can't tell the difference between the original table leaf and the new one. I am so pleased with my new table leaf and can't wait to host my next dinner party because now I will have tons of room at my table. THANK YOU Tea and George!

I have worked with this company on several projects over the past year or two. Shlomo is pleasant to deal with, smart, creative and unfailingly honest and accommodating. He has beautiful taste and takes old-fashioned personal pride in satisfying his clients. He has created cabinetry for our finished basement and master bedroom. He also designed and built the most beautiful furniture for us - bedside tables and a kitchen table. In each case, he has turned my vague concepts into magnificent one-of-a-kind works of art. There are many "custom cabinetry" shops that carry lines of cabinetry that they will combine to fit into your space and needs. As It Should Be is in a different class - this company designs and builds commissioned pieces from scratch. Before finding As It Should Be, I thought that this type of work would be beyond my budget. To the contrary, I have found the prices to be comparable to - and in some cases less expensive than - good furniture lines and other less-custom custom cabinetry that I've purchased. Both the quality of work and the experience of dealing with Shlomo are unique in today's world. If you need cabinetry or a special piece of furniture, treat yourself to a meeting with Shlomo.

They were very professional, creative and patient (design changes requested) throughout the process. The table is quite beautiful and I am very pleased.  In fact I will be working with them to design dining chairs to match the table.  There is no comparison to creating furniture that is specific to your taste and design sensibility, therefore, I highly recommend these fine artists to you.  Bravo, Tea and George!  You?re the best.

ACustom Millwork Design Group, Ltd
Tom and Harland were exceptional to work with. The quality of their custom workmanship and follow up is unparalleled. They truly care about the customer’s happiness and take enormous pride in their work. I have used Custom Millwork Design Group on several pieces of custom furniture (bar, credenza(s), desk). These items were not run of the mill as they were complex designs that used exotic woods and materials. The finished products are amazing, delivered on time and priced well. After items were delivered and I needed some modifications or follow up they were always quick and happy to assist. They are pro’s and it shows! If you are looking for true custom wood work for furniture and you are interested in quality look no further.

AHARDWOOD ARTISANS
A word of warning - working with Hardwood Artisans can be highly addictive! Once you've had the experience of getting the exact details, wood, craftsmanship, etc., in a piece of furniture, it can be really, really hard to resign yourself to going back to accepting something which is perhaps 70% of what you were looking for. The HA guys will sit down with you and listen to your preferences and requirements. Both when we planned the home office and now recently when we designed the kitchen pieces, a furniture designer came to look at our current set-up, taking pictures of what the new pieces will hold and noting absolutely everything about dimensions, kick boards, outlets, everything! If you need an outlet installed for lighting in the furniture, they'll plan where it needs to go. If you lose an outlet that it will cover, they will add one onto the piece. They spot problems like the drawers in the home office having to clear a window sill or how lighting will work in the piece.  Everything we've had them make has been done with amazing craftsmanship and it's really rewarding as well to know that it is all made locally in Virginia. They are now the first place we consider anytime we're considering a new piece of furniture.

Intial contact and help with selecting out chairs/stools was good.  However, our order too much longer that anticipated and follow up contact with the owner was horiible.  For example, owner was hostile when questioned about when order would be ready and repeatedly told us that he would "call the next day" with order information and repeatedly did not.

I ordered a desk, side table and printer stand for my home office. My contact with my salesman was professional and they kept me informed through the whole process. This is custom furniture so it takes at least 8 weeks to receive the finished pieces. The furniture is beautifully crafted and are heirloom quality. I have done business with them on at least five occasions.i am always pleased with their products.the furniture produced is expensive but built to last.

AContemperary Concepts
It went very well.  It was very high quality furniture.  We are very pleased.  Their business model is such tht most of it has to be ordered from overseaes so it takes a while to get it but it is well worth the wait.  We bought a beautiful leather sofa, accessories for the living room.  They are stunning pieces and extremely stylish, high quality comfortable well made furniture.  We purchased for living room, dining room.  The pieces are very attractive just high quality.  These things are not going to be falling apart any time soon. The service was excellent.  They had to come back out to set up things tht were set up perfectly.  They sent someone right out and the follow-up service was excellent even after the delivery.  We are very pleased

AHARDWOOD ARTISANS
From start to finish the service and product far exceeded our expectations. The quality of the workmanship was amazing - with specifically selected woods arranged in such a way to highlight the beauty of the grains. They were able to accomidate our desire for a dark, almost black finish, which fit our more modern furniture style. They were also able to get the order done within a tight timeframe to deliver the table before Thanksgiving. The professionalism of all of the staff we interacted with was top notch. We will definitely consider buying more pieces from them.
