After a poor experience with a previous contractor American Custom Contractors was very sensitive to our situation and did everything to walk us through the estimation proces. They provided multiple options, estimates and adjustments to our needs as the project was ongoing. The entire staff was attentive and considerate.

They were excellent on this job as well. He explained all of our options and we decided to go with the James Hardie fiber cement to keep all the squirrels out. It was also fire retardant. We would highly recommend them for siding jobs. They were very professional and we would definitely use them again.

AGreenTech Remodeling
GreenTech did a great job. Mo was easy to work with during the planning period. Mo's pricing and customer service were by far the best I encountered out of the 5 companies from whom I received estimates. Mario and his team did an excellent job with the siding work. They worked hard through what were the hottest days of the summer. I was impressed with their attention to detail. I was skeptical at first considering the size of the job that it would meet my high expectations; however in the end I am very pleased with how the job went and how well the work was performed. I would recommend GreenTech highly to anyone looking to have work performed on their home.

APreferred Siding Inc
Our old cedar siding was in bad shape, with numerous woodpecker holes and plentiful carpenter bee damage.  We did a deck job first before the siding job, because we were advised in consult with Preferred Siding that was the better order to do things to avoid inadvertent damage to new siding, even though the siding was probably most urgent based on the damage already described.  The Hardie fiber cement product was attractive to us based on the resistance to woodpeckers and bees, in addition to the potential energy savings.  We appreciated that even before we had a signed contract with Preferred Siding that they were willing to have consultations with the deck company about how the two projects would work best together.  They also were patient in waiting for us to finish our deck project first.  They also offered a coupon through Angie's List. We signed a contract finally in late summer 2012 after gaining our HOA approval and were able to get scheduled for October 2012 for the work.  We decided to stick with vertical siding choice to match the original look for the 1970s contemporary ranch construction.  Be aware that this means that you have to have the product separately painted, which would later become a bit of a pain with Preferred Siding's affiliated painter.  The affiliated painter is highly unreliable (5 day job took 3 weeks, painter disappeared for a week so that even the painting owner did not know where he was, and it took 7 months to get booked with the active help of Preferred Siding once I flagged for them the problem), but delivers quality painting work.  Based on the painter experience suggest thinking carefully about choosing horizontal siding product that does not/not require extra painting to avoid the hassle we encountered on the painting end.  Or choose a different painter. Preferred Siding did an excellent job getting the work done to put the new siding up on the house.  This also included a whole-house wrap.  They also replaced rotten wood around windows with Azek.  The house looked like a new house with the primed vertical siding up.  We were extremely pleased with the job.  Grace who works the office for Preferred Siding was a real stand-out throughout.  Really appreciated her assistance in getting us linked up with the painter ultimately too. The only nits I would flag for awareness is that interior damage caused by putting up the siding is clearly the owner's responsibility per the contract.  We had some dry wall pop in (minor), but more seriously the banging caused a piping joint where the refrigerator's ice maker water line joined the pipe that went outside to an external water faucet to break causing gushing of water into one basement recessed light, carpet, and drywall damage to the basement ceiling that we are responsible to repair separately.  We fortunately were home with a sick child that day to be present at the time the water started gushing, so that we were able to flag the mishap pretty quickly to the crew working outside.  To the credit of the team here working that day, they came to a full stop to help figure out what had gone wrong, helped get the water turned off, and literally sawed the side of the house off to get to the problematic area to repair it.  They repaired the plumbing break at no extra charge, which we appreciated, and restored the outside wall before completing the project.  This helped alert us to the longer-term need to install an access panel into that area of the basement ceiling so that we can get to pipes with on/off valves that are otherwise inaccessible (thus the need to saw the outside of the house off during the crisis).  Less clear to us was that we were also responsible to re-attach the electric box to the outside of the house after the job; we hired an electrician to come do that for us once it was clear that was our responsibility and not that of Preferred Siding.  Finally, the front of the house was quite clean and the bulk of clean-up was good.  However, before we had some foundation repair taken care of we collected a small grocery bag of mostly nails and small debris.  We were concerned that the numerous nails would harm the foundation repair crew coming in to do excavation, so we picked them up ourselves. The house looks 100% better with the new siding, and it's real peace of mind now not to worry about woodpeckers, bees, and birds nests in the sides of our home.  Preferred Siding did a quality job, and we are happy with the work they completed.

AKatchmark Construction Inc
I found Katchmark through the Hardie website because I wanted a company that was familiar with the product. Everyone I dealt with at Katchmark -- from John, our sales representative, to the installers -- was extremely professional. A delay in the siding order resulted in an unasked-for discount; they also reduced the price by the cost of a repair to a shower niche (located on the bathroom's outside wall, so directly next to the siding being installed) that was damaged by the hammering. The workers did a great job cleaning up after themselves as well. The house looks beautiful. The "higher than estimate" cost noted below was due to two factors: (1) we did not include the new gutters in the original estimate and (2) we needed to replace more rotted wood than anticipated. Neither was an issue and the costs were fair.

This company far exceeded my expectations from start to finish. No detail was left unfinished and they cleaned up everything each and every day after they were working. The president of the company inspected the work personally (which I did not expect) and everyone in this organization made this experience on that was truly enjoyable. This company also does windows and roofing and I have two other friends who were equally satisfied, one of which was done over 18 years ago. I plan on having our roof done in the spring with them and will report back on that experience when done.

AMarshall Roofing Siding and Windows
Having recently completed a couple of expensive remodeling projects, we were hoping to make our aging vinyl siding last a bit longer.  When a large piece of siding broke off in a high wind, though, we saw how flimsy and brittle it was and realized we couldn't delay.  I did a lot of research and got estimates from three reputable contractors. I chose Marshall Roofing because (a) their reputation was good, (b) their price was the most competitive, (c) they offered a 5-year workmanship warranty, and (d) our sales consultant/estimator, Doug McCleaf, was very knowledgeable and spent a lot of time answering my questions. That was probably the most important factor.  I initially requested an estimate for siding only, but when the proposal came in at a more affordable price than we expected, I asked Doug for additional estimates for trim and gutters.   We accepted all three proposals, for a total of $21,653.00.  Doug told me to expect a 3-week lead time, but because the siding we selected, Cedarmill Sandstone Beige, turned out to be available in the local warehouse, they were able to start the very next day.  I was skeptical when Doug told me the job should take only 3 days, but except for a downspout part that had to be special-ordered for our rain barrel, everything was indeed done in 3 days. The siding/trim crew was large, and they worked very hard, from dawn to dusk.  The job was not all smooth sailing.  When the siding started to go up on day 1, I was horrified to see it was not what I expected.  The color was right, but the texture was wrong--flat, instead of the faux wood grain finish I had selected.  I made panicked phone calls to Doug and Cindy, the on-site project manager, and the correct siding was delivered and work resumed within a couple of hours. It turned out that the pallet had been incorrectly labeled by the supplier.    Too bad Cindy was not on site when the first few planks of siding went up, but she was there much of the time, making sure everything was being done correctly and consulting with me whenever anything unexpected came up.   She had a great eye for detail, calling my attention to things I probably never would have noticed.  She even spray-painted my old porch security light before it was reinstalled so it wouldn't look bad against the beautiful new trim.  Everyone on the Marshall crew was courteous and professional, and they cleaned up every piece of debris.  The gutters were installed by a separate crew (actually, I think it was just one person) after the siding crew had left. Marshall did not ask for any payment until all the work had been completed, which is quite unusual.  A couple of days after I had paid the bill, I noticed that a cable running down the side of the house had not been secured.  I got in touch with Doug, and it was fixed the very next morning.  I couldn't be happier with the work.  Our house has regained its curb appeal, and my husband and I have both noticed it feels warmer. I will definitely use Marshall when it's time to replace our roof--not for a few more years, I hope. .

BDreamHome
We tried to get quotes for new James Hardie siding from Dream Homes two years in a row, with no real success. Finding a company that was willing to do both the Hardie and install the exotic hardwood has been a long and difficult process. Chris Brown with Dream Homes initially seemed willing, but both years he disappeared (stopped communicating and answering my messages when I pressed for detailed quote.) Note that they are not yet Hardie certified installers, although they are working toward that goal according to their sales person, Chris Brown. Although Chris finally gave us a lump sum quote of approx. $30k, he never replied to two follow-up emails I sent requesting a detailed break-out and a listing of exactly what was included. We received a call from Dream Homes management asking questions about our satisfaction with Chris. We provided details on our experience, but have never heard from them again. (Fortunately we then found Transnational Corp, a very professional and certified Hardie ambassador rated company, which we contracted the entire project with for about $33k.)

The overall installation took a little more than a week to finish.  There were a few touch up that needs correcting, and that took a while to complete.  Megan and J R Burger were really great during this whole process.

AR M Banning Roofing
Overall we are very happy with the results. Earlier on we did have some discrepancies between what we asked the sales agent for and what was reflected in our contract (issues like the color of the roof, the width of the trim, the finish of the siding). I think this probably happens any time you ask for something that deviates from the building standards that contractors typically expect, so it's just important as with any contract to triple-check it and to be there for the initial walk-through. The first part of the process was handled through one of Rich Banning's sales agents. It did take a while to get the contract signed and the workers on site, but once they were on site they finished up with the roof in  two days. Once the siding guys got started, it was finished in about 2 days, and our gutters were put up in a couple of hours. Rich came out to check in on the roofing and siding jobs at the beginning, middle and end. There were a few things that we did have to make sure were completed the way we wanted, so it's helpful to be there yourself throughout the process. Rich made sure to send out a crew member to perform additional clean-up after the primary work was completed, which we appreciated. We ran into some extra costs with our roof -- because of the age of our roof, we ended up having to replace all of the plywood underneath -- this was not entirely unexpected, but it did make me a little nervous that we would run into unexpected costs as well on the siding, but our estimate pretty much reflected our final payment. In the end, we got what we wanted, our house looks fantastic, and the price was very reasonable. All of our neighbors have commented on how great our house looks, and we would definitely recommend RM Banning again.

AUnicorp Home Energy Services
Unicorp Home Energy did a really great job from the beginning to end.  They were prompt, courteous and organized which is very important to us.  Their professionalism was apparent.  With all of the high quality aspects to the job the price remained very competitive.   This is the third time we used them.  They replaced all the windows in our home in 2008.  The windows not only look fantastic, they also improved our energy costs considerably.   We still notice the difference with our heating/cooling bills. Then, in 2011 they replaced our siding with Fiber Cement from James Hardie.  Again they did a beautiful job.  The installers were clean and knowledgeable.  Their attention to detail was appreciated.  The finishing work they did was amazing.  Along with the siding we also replaced our sliding glass door which added beauty to our kitchen. It's one thing to only have a one good experience with a company, but I have recommended Unicorp to so many friends and neighbors and they have all thanked me time and again for having done it!

APreferred Siding Inc
I called Preferred Siding since they were a recommended Hardie siding contractor, the gold standard in fiber cement siding. Steve came out and not only explained the science of siding and trim, he enlightened us on design and color. He was a joy to deal with, and our comfort level with his professionalism was unmatched. We received two other bids from Hardie contractors that exceeded Steve's, but we were going with Preferred even if his estimate was not the lowest, which is was. Warning: Watch out for Grace, his office assistant. She is lethal, her weapon of choice, humor. She does the scheduling and solves all the problems, and things get done, and get done on time. Be prepared to be entertained and amused, as she cracks the whip on the troops. I highly recommend Steve, Grace and Preferred Siding. I can't sing their praises loud enough. If you are considering installing Hardie siding, or any siding for that matter, you would be remiss not to call them. Remember, they do siding, not roofs, not windows, only siding. And they do it well.

ACentral Exteriors
The estimate was the lowest estimate, it was also the most complete and best explained estimate. The corporate representative Mitch Greenberg was easy to deal with. He had ready references that checked out well. Insurance certificates MHIC information was provided without any fuss. The contract was made in early June, the work started earlier than expected and the delivery of materials and the dumpster were well coordinated. Polite, competent workmen with good supervision diligently removed the siding from one wall at a time replacing it as they went along so at no time was more than one wall exposed to the elements. When a storm did occur they actually completed a wall and did not start on the next one to prevent problems with water. Most of the work was completed quickly, all of it was completed by the deadline. One piece of advice we would offer would be that you should remove all items hanging on exterior walls if there is going to be a lot of hammering on them.

It was a big job and went quite well, aside from weather delays.       The men who handled the bidding process and the supervising were very easy to communicate with. They knew the kinds of issues involved and the kinds of things I was worried about.        The crew was very pleasant, and happy that I wanted them to ask me questions about what I wanted done. They were self-starters, conscientious, and they did a good job cleaning up the huge mess that goes along with this kind of job.       The finished job looks pretty much as I hoped it would, which is a tremendous relief.

AKCSI Construction Inc
KCSI did a fantastic job and we couldn't be more pleased with the quality of the work and how our house looks.  We had estimates from two other respected companies, but chose KSCI because of the quality of the estimate/consultation, competitive price, and reviews about attention to detail. They did not disappoint. John K. oversaw the project and kept us informed throughout the process and responded to all of our questions/concerns. The crew, led by German, was incredibly hardworking. They were professional and affable throughout the project. They did a great job cleaning up and taking care of final touchups.  The company even used left over material to re-side and install trim on our storage shed abutting the house -- this detail was a big and welcome contribution to the project.  We would highly recommend KCSI because of the quality of their work and attention to detail. Throughout, we felt that we were working with a company that we could trust.

AAmerican Exteriors & Masonry
Carmen Pretopapa (Owner), Gabriel "Gabe" (Project Manager) and the rest of the folks at American Exteriors and Masonry were professional, courteous and detailed oriented. They were not the lowest bidder (we asked 10 contractors for competitive bids for the work), but they were also not the highest and seemed to fall right in between.  They specialize in decks and masonry, but have great people they contract jobs out to, such as our the siding project. The crews always showed up on-time and kept our property as clean as can be considering the scope of work. We would absolutely hire this company again - the quality of the work was fantastic and they weren't happy until I was completely happy. Every worker, to the man, was highly skilled at what they did and for someone as picky as I am,  I never once felt like I made the wrong decision in hiring this company. Pictures attached for reference. I feel like we have a new home!

AOld Dominion Restorations
Very pleased with the quality of work performed by his crew. Owner supervised on both days of the work. Owner and crew are very experienced in about all restoration type jobs. Mr. T.Collins and I talked with each other both days. He is very knowledgeable. I was called a week after the job was complete to see if all was well and I was happy. Very pleased with the work completion. I had contacted several local contractors for estimates, four others to be exact, over a year?s time. Most companies couldn't seem to be able to give a comprehensive estimate and list details. All others were priced higher for the job and wouldn't commit to the exact work to be done. In other words they all hinted at extra cost except Old Dominion Restorations. Some contractors wouldn?t even climb provided latter to look at the soffit detail issue. Said they didn?t do that sort of thing. LOL. Mr. Collins wouldn?t give an estimate unless he investigated himself. That got my vote. PS I like the Paradigm windows and that compinies attention as well.

The roof was done first, and after that work was completed we decided to proceed with siding, windows and gutters.  Gutters were originally part of the roof replacement project, but that was rescheduled when we opted for new siding.  We replaced vinyl replacement windows that had been installed 15yrs ago with Unicorp's windows simply because they were so much nicer than what we had.  The original aluminum siding was replaced with James Hardie fiber cement plank siding.  The work was done on schedule and well within the time-frame we were told to expect at the outset -- despite some adverse weather conditions (heat and rain). We could not be happier with the results -- it's like we have a new house!  Every aspect of this multi-phase project was well-coordinated, including support from sales and office personnel, and the work crew supervisors.  As we were guided through various decisions involving design and materials, we felt confident that we were getting the best possible advice, always with our best interests in mind.  Unicorp had design suggestions that made a difference and that we wouldn't have thought of ourselves.  Materials, workmanship and attention to detail were topnotch; several unanticipated surprises, legacies from the original construction of the house, were discovered and corrected with no additional charge. We wouldn't have the slightest hesitation in recommending Unicorp to anyone interested in a high quality renovation of the exterior of their house.

This was an excellent job; and we were informed daily of the status by JR, project supervisor, and the project manager Megan. First we worked with Mary Ellen MacDonald, the company's Vice President, to select appropriate shingles and coordinate colors that enhanced the brick work and selected siding. We selected architectural singles that carry a lifetime warranty, so we would not be replacing the roof prematurely as with the last roof. David and his crew did an excellent job of replacing all rotted wood; then  they installed a special rubber matting to help prevent ice damming and damage to the interior of our home.  The ridge line and shingles were the final step.  And these guys did a great cleanup at work's completion. Cho and his crew were responsible for the fiber cement siding that replaced the faulty vinyl siding.  This made a huge improvement to the look of our home.  With the dormers and trim boards in place, Cho and crew capped all windows and did the soffit and fascia. Again, everything was expertly capped and caulked. In the past, we received promises of "quality of work" from other contractors; however the craftsmanship of Unicorp's exceeded expectations. Thanks to all the crews and their clean up at end of job; and to the care they exhibited for the property's landscaping.  Thanks to Megan for her many phone calls; and to JR who alleviated concerns.   And, at last, it was wonderful to work with a WOMAN (Mary Ellen MacDonald) who knew her stuff! We intend to use Unicorp for future projects.

AAlco Products Inc
They did a good job. It took longer than they said it would take. They said it would take about a week. It took about twelve or thirteen days. I was happy with the work even though they left a mess. I kept picking up nails forever. They had a team and they worked very hard. They also messed up the electrical system outside. It was just a matter of resetting it. They flipped the breakers so that none of the outside worked which was no big thing. It was a oversight. Another thing that annoyed me was they took down my flag pole receptacle and threw it away. I had to buy a new one. Those three things were a nuisance but with the overall job, I am quiet happy. The siding is good. It's fiber cement siding. It's very sturdy. I think it has thirty years warranty. So they did very good. I basically like the job they did. I just don't like the clean up and the guys were not courteous enough to keep my flag pole holder. They also dismantled the electrical outlets around the house and replaced two light fixtures. But they didn't turn the electricity off. There knowledge of electricity is very lacking. Luckily no one was electrocuted. They need more training and I did speak with their agent. We had wood rot that also needed to be replaced. They also put in two windows. Overall I'm happy with what they did.

Recent Review: Excellent. Mr Whiting and his crew were top notch. It was one the best contracting experiences ever. He explained the work thoroughly and had his staff plan the job in detail. The Whiting Company ordered the exact siding needed and also replaced all of the exterior elements of the building including old wood which was replaced with synthetic material to prevent degredation with time. His team went out of their way and repaired initial deficiencies in the building due to poor technique by the original builder including adding deficient flashing material around my windows to prevent future leaks. The crew was courteous, punctual and pleasant. The Whiting Company guarantees their work for 10 years which is great. I would highly recommend this firm if you ever have the need to repair any of the exterior elements of your building.

Recent Review: Overall we are very happy with the results.

Recent Review: The estimate was the lowest estimate, it was also the most complete and best explained estimate.
