Iron Work reviews in Virginia Beach

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • It never went! I have called this company at least a dozen times with no response and no call back. If too busy, at least be courteous enough to call back and say so! Are they even in business anymore?
    - Doug D.
  • He installed the rails in Astor and they looked great!  They looked beautiful matching my shutters perfectly.  A couple months after they were installed my son called to tell me that the paint was chipping off and that they appeared that they were never primed.  I called Mr. Richardson and was telling him the problem and he got up on his high horse and got ugly saying "He heard me the first time and I did not have to repeat it.  He again in an ugly tone stated that he would get out their and take care of it within the next two weeks.  Couple months went by and still no Mr. Richardson..  My husband  rode over to his shop and again went in to ask about fixing the rails.  He said he had forgot and would get out there probably the next week.  Again we waited for months and no Mr. Richardson.  By now the rails have rust in many places.   I wanted to send a certified letter but my husband wanted to give it one last shot. so my husband again went over there and he said his helper left and that he thought there was a problem with the primer as he had complaints from others and he would again take care of it.  By now its been over 6 months....
This morning he showed up at my house and my son walked out the door and started looking at the rails and made the statement that they appeared that they had not been primed.  At that Mr. Richardson again showed his temper and jumped on my son saying he did not know what he was talking about and went on to say that he had never painted the rails that color and accused us of tampering or changing the color as the color looked different than what he put on.   He actually is  right as they look faded and they never had a shine to them as our other house does.  My son told him no one besides Mr.Richardson had touched the rails and the two of them had heated words.  My son called me and told me of his accusations and asked permission to tell Mr. Richardson to leave of which he did.
Mr. Richardson called my husband to cry on his shoulder and I got on the phone and told him I was going to find someone who stands behind their work without copping a hot head attitude and I would sent him a bill.  He said he would not pay it..  I said we would let a judge decide as we are going to court.  With that he said goodbye and hung up the phone.
Mr. Richardson has the capability of doing a good job as I have evidence of that on one of our porches.  He was reliable until there was a problem and he had been paid.  His hot head attitude is very unprofessional and had I known then what I know now would never have contracted Mr. Richardson to do the job.

  • They came over to fix my iron fence that former neighbor broke. The iron fence broke that the weld points. These guys came in and went well beyond what was required to fixing it. Sawing off old parts and repainting the black over their welds. Highly recommend. Very thorough job

  • Richard Haymond does not answer the emails sent to his website, so just call him if you want an estimate.
After waiting for about a month for a response to my email, with photos, he responded quickly to a phone call.
Since he had good reviews on this website, and the price was fair, we hired him and paid a down payment.
We had to wait about 5 weeks (instead of the couple he had told us), and call a couple times, before he started work.
When he finished, we noticed that one of the railings was noticeably off center of vertical alignment. We called and Richard stopped by to look at it and agreed that the railing needed re-working. Said he would take care of it.
We had to call a few times, but he finally stopped by, cut off the new railing and took it to apply a better bend. He says he bends the iron by hand over an object.
It took until August 28th for the railing to finally be completed. The railing looks nice now except for some rust where the error had to be corrected. We will have to spray paint those rusty spots.

  • I had to search on Angie's List for a company to supply and install rod iron railings because we do not have this type of service in our area anymore.  I was impressed by Nelson, the man who came to measure, and who I signed each contract with.  So far we have used this company 2 times.  I was also impressed by the workers who installed the railings and removed my old railings.  The workers were respectful, competent, and performed a very neat job.  They have many styles of rod iron railings to choose from ... we liked the style we chose very much ... with a scroll work design up top.  The railings we chose from N & J Iron Works are so much nicer than what we originally had installed at our home ( by another company) 19 years ago.  We will certainly use
N & J Iron Works again in the future.  We also recommended them to do railings at my relative's home in Carle Place, NY.

  • It took them 3 MONTHS to measure (multiple times, couldn't seem to get it right) then actually manufacture the railings. When they finally came to install (I waited all summer) several of the railings didn't fit. I had to wait another several weeks to get the job completed. There were some other glitches as well, like a 5 or 6 inch gap on the second story railing that a kid could definitely fall through. I had so many problems I became tired of asking for things to be fixed. Now, a little over a year later THE PAINT IS CHIPPING OFF OF THE RAILINGS. Very sorry I used this company.

  • Their estimator came at the agreed upon time. measured and stated it would take 3 weeks to fabricate the rails.
They arrived 3 weeks later with the completed parts, installed them and did a great job keeping the site clean and left everything as it was before they arrived.
The installers knew exactly what they needed to do, and the owner actually stopped by to ensure everything was correct.

  • The company came and gave us an estimate quickly after we called. The estimate was thousands of dollars less than an estimate we received from another company. They made recommendations as to color, style and care of the railings. We agreed on the price with a handshake. They came and instatlled the new railing in the time frame that they said they would in a professional manner. We are very happy with the results. You can tell that the folks at Atlantic Railing take pride in their work.

  •  It was

a very delightful experience. The owner puts forth effort into maiking everything right before he leaves. He was very fair about the pricing and let us know if there were changes along the way. We had great communication from the beginning which is very important when you are doing any project.

  • Came immediately to give an estimate, had order ready when promised, installed and then returned promptly for touch ups!!
