  • Despite a questionable rating by the Better Business Bureau we used this provider because of past history. We, as well as friends and  neighbors used this provider in the past and the results were excellent. When I called for a consultation the original owner of the company did not respond but rather his son Provider name locked. . He explained that his father had passed away a few months ago and he and his brother were taking over the business. He promised me the same quality we were used to and assured me the job would be done right using the same crew we had dealt with previously. Provider name locked. did not even fill out the contract correctly as he checked items he was not going to do and left unchecked items he was going to do. Having remodeled and flipped houses myself I was very aware of the requirement by the city of Va. Beach that a building permit was required. He assured me he would take care of it. The day work was to start the crew showed up on time and worked very hard and efficiently. By late afternoon they were putting the final touches on the completed roof when the city inspector showed up and asked for the building permit. Provider name locked. had failed to get one. At first the inspector blamed me for the lack of proper documentation until I showed him my contract. He informed me that besides the cost of the permit there would now be a fine which I, as the home owner, was responsible to pay. When Provider name locked. came back and I told him what had happened he asked if I would get the permit and he would deduct the cost and fine from the price of the roof. When I told him that I had planned on holding back part of the payment $250.00 until the issue was resolved he decided he would get the permit. A few days later Provider name locked. came back, without the permit, but instead bought 2 other men who came on my premises with him who demanded I pay the full bill. When I told him again I would pay all except the $250 untilt he permit issue was resolved he again said he would get the permit. That was the last I saw of him. I took care of the permit myself as well as the fine. The building inspector's office informed me that the license under which they are operating had expired  in June of 2013.

  • First of all the company was supposed to email the estimate and after 5 days I had to call and asked where it was and then it was sent. The day service was scheduled, Tuesday, August  20th. , I had to leave the house at 12:50 p.m. and the tech had not shown up yet ; when I returned at 3:15 p.m. he had just finished and was ready to leave, having supposedly done all of that work in a period of less than 2 hours.  (I did see a voice message on the phone later where he had called about 1 p.m. and said he was on the way). The deck was totally wet and I asked if he had cleaned it and sealed  it and done all of the other work in that period of time and he said "yes". The deck was not cleaned to my satisfaction as you could still see the discoloration where all of the potted plants had been. I called the office back and the tech returned the next day and I said he would have to re-do it and he said he would have to talk with Mr. McKowan as he had already sealed it. He came back on Friday and said he woould have to scrap off everything and would come back the day after Labor Day to re-seal it. That Tuesday he came by and heavy rain was forecast and it was understandable he could not do the seal. Unfortunately he was scheduled to leave on a week of vacation the next day and he said he would be back to do the work the following Tuesday.  Finally I called the office on Wed. Sept.  11th to ask when the tech was coming and they said later that day and then the office called back later that afternoon and said the tech was stuck in Atlanta. Apparently the company only has one person to do this kind of work. I waited all the rest of the week and did not hear from anyone. I finally called the company on Monday, Sept. 16th and said I was through with them and she said , "Oh, he is scheduled to come tomorrow". I said forget it. All of this time my furniture has sat out in the middle of the yard and I had to reschedule my aerating and re-seeding twice during that period. I have contacted another person who had to come and re-sand the deck because it was so roughed up from removing the seal and he has now covered it with an acrylic seal---all of this done in the past 5 days. He will return in 2 days and replace all of my furniture on the deck.
My overall experience was very distressing.

  • I have used Provider name locked. for five years now. He is in and out in about two hours or so. One year, he also cleaned the roof for an additional $100. He always does a complete job and I plan to continue to use him.
