The projects went very well. The company was able to give us a quote within a week and started work almost immediately and completed the projects within a month or so. They provided quality work at a reasonable price. The workers, Steve, Berr and Eric were professional and responsive to our requests. We plan to use them for all our future projects.

    JC Smith LLC
We recently purchased a home built in 1896 and decided to hire JC Smith to do the extensive re-model. From the initial assessment to the final walk through, JC Smith was a top notch general contractor. The scope of work and cost estimate were both on point; no surprises or hidden costs that threw me out of my budget. The design consultant was very helpful with the new design and material choices; suggesting good quality yet affordable products that would help me achieve the design look I wanted while staying within my budget. The job foreman was knowledgeable about every aspect of the work that needed to be done and always polite and considerate to inform me of all the daily details during the construction phase. He addressed any questions or concerns I had promptly and courteously; even when I asked multiple times because I just didn't understand. ; ) Even the sub-contractors that were brought in did great work! If I wanted something "tweaked" at the end of a particular job, JC Smith was quick to have their sub-contractor return and finish the work to my satisfaction. Every worker that passed through the doors of my home were considerate of the fact that it was my home and therefore left an exceptionally clean job site at the end of the day. To make sure that all the work getting done was to their very high standards, there were multiple calls and visits from none other than the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I can't say enough good things about this general contractor! Thanks JC Smith for a job well done!!

VERY SLOW. Very unprofessional. Very demeaning to customer, especially females. Did not want to listen to what customer wanted. Rude. Blamed their mistakes on customer. Most of subcontractors were fine. I had written a very long description of all the mistakes and things not completed, some of which have still not been completed earlier. They promise the world. Make sure you record each conversation. Many of the things now have to be repaired and done properly. Overall would never recommend them, plus two people I personally know who had work done, said the same thing. Walls were not done properly, drainage not installed correctly, roof not installed correctly (still leaks). Just unreal as to how unprofessional all the work was. Plus we contracted in November and they were supposed to be finished by Feb and I didn't actually have it finished until June. Main reason, he kept pulling people for other jobs and giving excuses. At one point I just had to tell him to finish one section and stop jumping around.

    Tripp's Floor Sanding
Very happy with the flooring.  Only problem was putting the refrigerator back into position; one of the wheels was broken by one of the workers.  Called Tripp Tobin and explained to him and he said to get it repaired and he would take care of the bill.
They were very good about cleaning up after the 2-day job was done.

Installer were on time. There was a potential problem which was explained to me and options were given. Luckily, it all turned out well. They left the room clean and vacuumed. Even offered to re-install closet doors.

    GAB-L Construction LLC
The contractor I picked had just and quot;retiredand quot; and picked a partner to handle his business. Even though he was voted Best Contractor/Builder in 2012, that was all based on his long reputation in our area and not the reputation of his new partner who quoted and took over my project. From April through September 2013, and it's still ongoing, we have gone through more then anyone could have ever expected and that is not a good thing. Early on in our project, when the roof was compromised, a large thunderstorm came up and leaked into our bedroom/bathroom area 2/3rds of the way into the rooms. When I spoke to the contractor I was told all would be made as new. When the actual work was performed, this was not the case and I constantly had to intervene to ensure new insulation was placed where the old was soaked, new carpeting was done (even though they did order and had installed the wrong carpet that I had to order myself and have installed later). The wall between the new build out and our room had to be replaced as pat of our remodel but other things like the ceiling drywall was not replaced and I am waiting for stains to show through the paint even though I was promised a 5-year guarantee that it would not leak through.

All the items were ordered incorrectly from the windows and doors to carpet and other items to include the tile in addition to shortages and all my cabinetry was ordered incorrectly to include the mirrors and cabinet fronts style.. The 1st subcontractor they sent to do the tile was overwhelmed by the project and only finished 1/2 and his boss had to come to finish it but not to anyone's satisfaction. Unfortunately I'm embarrassed to show this work to anyone and am much less happy to pay for it but we will and plan to contact Holmes on Holmes or someone on the HGTV network to see if he or someone from their network could make this right. It's so crazy to pay for something you don't even know if it might be leaking under our house, based on what they did above the floor that we can see, it scares me to see what's under the floor.

While our remodel was in progress, a house across from us was completed from start to finish along with an outside assembled toy set with swings for their kids. We also had an in-ground swimming pool installed and built our own fence that no one else was willing to touch with a ten-foot pole after we contacted them because they said it was too hard. This was done within two months of the completion of the pool and we have had and passed our final inspection on our swimming pool and our other bathroom/closet remodel is STILL not finished. Because of the partner they hired/fired.

I do not feel I should have to pay them the balance of roughly $3600 due to these issues but according to them, they have spent about $70K on this project and being behind (though no fault of mine) makes it a necessity they collect the full price. I suggested a 10% discount since this work has been going on since April 2013 and we have been inconvenienced by being unable to use our bedroom/bathroom during the entire remodel doe to the early and unexpected/unnecessary leak because of where they cut the roof off before the storm and the lack of coverage to keep rain from coming into our home. Additionally it was expected and according to the contract that the work would be completed in a timely fashion that I consider to be within 3 months.

Due to the ongoing and many required fixes that will need to be done before we can agree to pay this bill in it's entirely, it will be a long time before I will feel any goodwill toward this contractor for any work on any thing they have done. I have to admit it's been better since I'm working with the owner of GAB-L rather than his partner Daniel but even so, the work is not done satisfactorily. It's amazing what they expect to be acceptable. I suppose a handyman's certificate in WV is all you need to do the punch out lists of any project in this area for GAB-L.

I'm sorry but I expect a knowledgeable contractor or subcontractor to come by my place to finish out any work at the end since it's all being done haphazardly. I'm all about getting things done quickly and well and I asked the last gentleman if his wife would approve of his and quot;fixand quot; and he said and quot;probably notand quot; so it that's the case then do it right, do it so your spouse or whomever would approve. I felt he was trying to prove a point against the tile guy but that's not my problem, just fix the darn thing so it looks decent and move on...!

    Jordan's Flooring
In the beginning: Jamie Jordan was friendly and convincing. When the job was done in the late evening, he was paid (Big Mistake). He was to return and fix several imperfections in floor, put in door sills, install wooden heat vents, etc. After four visits to his office, his personal excuses and promises, he still never ever showed up or called.

It has been nine months and he has never returned one call. In my 77 years never have I been treated so unfair and disrespectful.

    Carpet World of Martinsburg
The installers were prompt and professional. They had no problem moving heavy furniture around trying to be as careful as possible.
There were a few paint places that needed to be touched up on the wall after the new installation, but nothing bad. They worked through the day until the job was completed. We were very pleased with their work and our new carpet. We would highly recommend them to anyone wanting to get quality carpet and installers.
