    White Mountain Landscaping
They were quick to respond with a bid when we first contacted them.  We accepted their bid on a Saturday and they were here to do the work early Monday morning.  They worked the entire time they were here - no goofing off.  Did a great job.

    MOUNTAIN STATE TREE SERVICE
No work or estimate was given.  On the day scheduled for estimate my original choice showed up out of the blue with equipment ready to work.  Mountain State Tree Service was contacted and I was informed that my appointment for an estimate had to be moved.  So, I allowed the other company to begin work and canceled my appointment with Mountain State.  Mountain State understood and was professional and polite about the change.  It also saved Mountain State an out of town trip.

Tlc Stump Grinding And Tree Service
Upon the arrival of Tommy (the owner), he apologized for the delay, stating that he was dealing with his sister who had health issues all week.  I realized then, that I was lied to, not just inconvienenced.

He was polite and knew his trade.  He explained to my why the tree was dead and what to expect and what my options were with pricing.  I said we'd go ahead with his services and asked when we could expect him to come out and cut the tree down and grind the stump.  He said, "two to three weeks."  He informed me he was doing a job for the city at the cemetary and wasn't sure when he'd be done.  I asked if I would be called and he said yes.  It didn't happen that way.

I called on October 14th and spoke to his wife.  She said they were still busy and I would be called.  Please note that the number listed also doubles as their home number.  It's very awkward.  Then I got called late evening on Sunday (10/20) to tell me he would be here "some time" this week.  I told her this was unacceptable.  I informed her I would not be available on Thursday or Friday and he could just not show up whenever he wanted.  I also informed her that I would need to be called a day before he shows up.  She said okay and hung up.

Now, this tree has a power line running through it to our elderly neighbor's house behind us.  It's the main reason I wanted the tree looked at.  I don't want our tree to be the cause of her not having power this winter.  The owner said it wouldn't be a problem, but I just had to check today.  So I called our power company today, not having recieved a called from the owner's wife saying they were going to be here tomorrow.  I was told I would be contacted in 3 to 5 days by the forestry department to see about the tree and power line and they would have to do a service interruption to the line to keep anyone from being electrocuted.  Made sense to me.  Apparently, the owner had called to put in the service call.

I got a voicemail at 6 pm tonight from the owner, informing me that he would be here at 8 am tomorrow.  He didn't ask.  He didn't request a call back.  He told me.  So I called back at 6:02 pm.  It rang at least 2 dozen times.  Finally, their answering machine kicked in.  I left a message saying I put in a ticket with the power company and he couldn't come out tomorrow until they did their process for his safety.  They have not called me back.

    Fidler's Tree Service
My husband and I decided to think about it because two of the three trees were rather small and the estimate was $600.00 for all three trees. We had family and work issues arise that delayed our return call to Mr. Fidler (about mid to end of July). When I did call requesting to schedule a date to have the trees taken down (without stump removal) I had a longer wait time for a response, which I expected because of our delay getting back to him.
A week past by and Mr. Fidler returned our call stating he would came by and relook at the trees to remind himself of the jobsite. Our trees are on a hillside near the home and he would not be able to use his bucket on the truck due to a building in the way. Another 5 days past and Mr. Fidler then said the yard was too wet at the time to begin work. Once the yard dried up I called again telling him the yard was dry now and requested to schedule a day for the work. I left a voicemail and again it was a good week before he came by ( Approx. Aug 9th) and stated he was sorry for not getting back to me sooner that they were booked all week but he may be able to get me in by the weekend. He stated that they would call the day before they were to show up to make sure it was ok. This would have been the week of Aug. 12th through the 16th.
Yet another week has past and no phone call or show to perform work or to even schedule a date. I had mentioned to Mr. Fidler that this was a job I would like done by the end of August if possible because I would be returning to work and it would be harder to schedule a day when either my husband or I could be at home. Today is Aug. 26, 2013 and I have yet to hear or see Mr. Fidler. I am very disappointed at this point because our initial contact was so impressive and he was very professional in all communications when we spoke either by phone or in person. It has equalled out to a month that we have been patiently waiting to schedule a date. Unfortunately, my patience has worn out as well as the time frame in which I needed the work completed. I'm disappointed that our agreement never came to a day when the job was scheduled and completed. :0(
I do understand that I had a time frame I was trying to work with which is difficult especially when open spaces are quickly filling. I would have just appreciated at least a phone call or even a voicemail stating that unfortunately he was not able to work with me so that I could have had time to contact another company who may have been able to.

Update: On Sept. 11, 2013 Mr. Fidler showed up out of the blue with his men and equipment ready to work. I expressed to him that I never heard from him and had contacted a second provider. He didn't like it and stated by throwing hands in air, and quot; That's fine. I have 30 other people lined up and waiting. I don't need this one.and quot; I stopped him and told him since he was there with men and equipment they may as well work. He agreed and they began. They did what they could that day then returned the next day to complete the work. I noticed they were cutting more trees than what was in the estimate. I stopped the men and told them not to cut them because they were not in our agreement. No extra fee was charged for the two small extra trees they took down before I stopped them. The men stated that Mr. Fidler had advised them to take them down as well because they were leaning as well. Three trees were in the original estimate: a maple, gum and a holly. In the end a total of 5 trees were cut completely down. (on a side note thesecond provider I was waiting on was contacted and I was told my scheduled appointment needed to be changed two hours before time of scheduled arrival. I told second provider that I had men arrive unexpectedly ready to work and we agreed to allow them to work. My second choice was polite about the situation and relieved at the time due to I would have been an out of town estimate so the situation saved them time and money.)

    Highland Landscaping
Two other construction companies wouldn't do this job because there wasn't enough room to use heavy duty dozers or backhoes. Highland Landscaping had a very hard working crew who hand dug the bank prior to installing the concrete blocks. They worked very hard and took minimal breaks.

    Fidler's Tree Service
Prompt response to initial contact; met land owner at prescribed time; gave quote for job; agreed upon price and start date. Company started when agreed to, stayed with job until completed (approximately 7 days). Job was performed as agreed upon; minimal disturbance of surrounding property, professional conduct by all involved.
I will definitely use them again when the need arises.

    Kenneth A Wooddell
He is good.  He has a crew who comes around.  They show up when they are supposed to.  I never had a problem with them.  One time, moved some flowers with one stretch removed, but that was my fault and I haven't told them.  He does a lot of the commercial properties and a very few residential properties.  I pay once a month.  He is excellent.  He has no problem.  If he has any question about anything, he will ask.  The beginning of the year, he wants you to lay out what parts of the lawn you want mowed and what you want to trim.  If you have any specific area that needs individual attention, he needs to know that too.

Paid a lot of money for an extremely poor mulching job. Actually, we did most of it over ourselves. Didn't trim all of the shrubs as asked.
