Dr. Claire was very personable. He did a very complete palpation of my ankle and xrays to make sure there was only soft tissue problems.  I determined that I had tarsal tunnel syndrome and wrapped my ankle and suggested a cortisone shot to alleviate the pain.  The pain was alleviated by the injection for a short period of time.  He also wrote a prescription for orthopedic inserts in my shoes as I spend 8 hours per day on my feet.

When I called for an appointment I was able to get one within two weeks. The receptionist was very pleasant and registration was very quick. I did not need to wait long, and was called back withing 5 minutes of scheduled appointment time. The nurse was friendly and professional. The doctor did not make me wait in the exam room. Within 5 minutes of the nurse leaving the doctor was there. She took the time to talk to me, asking if I had any concerns or questions. Asking about all aspects of my health and taking time to listen to me. She explained what she was doing throughout the exam and was able to make me as comfortable as possible while going through the and quot;womanand quot; exams. I would absolutly suggest St Lukes OB_GYN to anyone.

The weeks prior to my visit I was diagnosed with Poison Ivy, or at least what the doctor thought it was. I was prescribed 10 mg of prednisone once per day for 10 days. After about 12 days, it seemed the rash was coming back and I was worried it was because I was late on one or two pills. The itching turned to pain and it got to be unbearable. I do not have health insurance and pay for my health care and medication out of pocket, therefor I try to see the doctor as little as possible. My regular doctor was not available to be seen and I was very short for time so I made an appointment at St. Luke's Urgent Care/Mariner Medical Clinic. I was seen by Gerald Spoelhof MD. He wrote my condition off as Poison Ivy again and prescribed my 20 mg of prednisone 2 times a day for 5 days. I started the medication on Tuesday and by Friday I could not move due to an horrific pain in my stomach. I could not finish the last 1 1/2 days of medication because I would puke them up. I called the clinic to talk to Dr. Spoelhof about the matter. He was not available and his associate took my call. I explained to him my story and asked if there was anything he or I could do. His only advise was to come back in and see Dr. Spoelhof again when he was available. Well that was not an option. I spent Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in bed. On Monday, I called and got an appointment in at an income-based clinic in Iron River, WI. My doctor there, Heidi Dumas, was more than helpful. Not only did she do an number of tests, she made a point to figure out exactly what was wrong and took her time to do it. It was there that I was told that Prednisone is very tough on the lining of a person's stomach. Not only should it be prescribed no more than 1 time per year, it should have NEVER been prescribed a second time in such a short period of time, but for sure not at twice the dosage. I was pretty upset with Dr. Spoelhof's decisions. I understand that I don't deserve special treatment because I don't have insurance, but I definitely feel my visit to Mariner Medical Clinic was a waste of time and money. The rest of the staff including the front desk and receptionists were very friendly. I have no complaints about them.
