    Avid Plumbing LLC
Avid plumbing did an amazing job. We submitted an online request late Sunday night when we came home to find our water heater not working. I received a call right away Monday morning and was told someone could come out same day to check it out. The serviceman came within the window I had received, after texting me when he was on his way. After a short inspection, I was given a clear report an options, cost of replacing a part vs replacing the entire water heater. We opted for replacing the water heater as it was 21 years old, and they were able to do this same day as well. Another serviceman dropped off the new unit within 15 minutes and it was installed less than an hour later. He also checked out our shower to make sure that wasn't causing additional temperature problems and replaced a part there at no additional cost to the original quote. Avid plumbing does great, reliable work. They are extremely responsive, easy to work with, and explain everything very well including plain and simple pricing, no surprises. They also replaced our garbage disposal two years ago with the same great experience - happy to recommend their services.

Great. They needed to source a new part which they did promptly and returned and repaired the valve part in a short period of time. They explained what they needed to do and how they were going to accomplish it. Very professional.

I had a call within 15 minutes of posting my need for a plumber on Angie's List.  I had a repair technician in another 30 minutes.  After replacing part #1 the technician reported the water heater working.  Roughly 2 hours later we still had no hot water.  The technician returned within 20 minutes and replaced a second part.  This fixed the problem and I only paid for one trip charge.  The coupon through Angie's List cut my bill by $30.

Avid Plumbing's response was prompt and professional.  They even took the time to find out
that the replacement water heater was covered by warranty.  I was pleased with their work and I plan to use Avid Plumbing in the future.

    Harker Heating & Cooling

We had our water heater go out last week.  We noticed it when we woke up to take showers before work.  I called a few places and ultimately chose to go with Harker because the receptionist told me they would be able to come out and assess the heater and replace it the same day.  Our water heater is about 7 years old, so we figured there would be a good chance that it would cost the same amount the replace the water heater as to just fix the older one, so that is why I verified with her that they could fix it the same day.

We have a new rescue dog that is not good around men, so my SO came home from work (I had already taken the day off work for this) and she took the dog away from the house so we didn?t disturb the men while they worked.  As we expected, there were a few parts that were bad on the water heater and the cost would be similar to repair or to replace.  He was done looking at the water around 2:00 and he told me someone would call me for a quote.  I was confused as I was under the impression that they would replace it that same day per the lady on the phone.  Apparently, that was not the case.  This guy wasn?t even the guy who would replace the unit, the guy who would replace the unit was busy and they didn?t have a replacement unit. I was very frustrated and mad?I chose Harker because I was told they could do it all in one day or we both wouldn?t have taken off work.  I could have just let my dog outside for a little while for him to look at the water heater.  I paid roughly $120 for this diagnostic test.

We then called to speak with a manager at Harker.  They tried to get someone to come back out that night and replace the water heater but were unable to.  They did have someone sent out first thing the next morning and took about $50 off the service call, which was appreciated but didn?t cover the amount of money we lost at work for missing part of both days.  This all could have been avoided by having their receptionist give accurate information.  There are a ton of places in Madison I could have called to have my water heater replaced and I chose Harker because I was told they could do it that same day and if they couldn't have replaced it that day, they should have said so and I would have made other arrangements.

    Update to Harkers repsonse:

At no time did they ever offer to have the heater replaced that evening for overtime rate or we would have easily paid it instead of taking more time off work.  We were told that they could try to get someone out that night but were unable to.  The only reason we okay'd them to come back the next morning is we needed it replaced as soon as possible.  We did not call later in the day-- it was still in the morning when we called.  And, obviously we know that you cannot carry all kinds of equipment around with you, but I was told that it would be replaced that night, so that is the fault of your receptionist to give me misinformation. They will try to write this so they sound like this was our fault for not knowing that they don't carry all the equipment, need licensed plumbers, etc., but we know exactly what was told to us on the phone and exactly how the situationw as handled and it was handled poorly.  We stand by our original reivew and will choose to use another company in the future.

    Harker Heating & Cooling
Harker replaced our 30-year-old furnace and 20-year-old air conditioner. Excellent experience all around. We obtained estimates from four local HVAC contractors, and Harker not only put in the most competitive bid (i.e., least expensive), they were also the most motivated to earn our business. We first worked with Grant, who assessed our needs and wrote the estimate. We appreciated that he did not simply try to sell us on the latest and greatest product; he actually listened to what our needs were and wrote the bid accordingly. He followed up after a couple of days to see if we had any concerns and ask if there was anything else he could offer to earn our business. None of the other contractors did that. On the day of the installation, the crew arrived on time, performed a quick assessment to make sure there wouldn't be any surprises (there weren't), and got to work. In addition to installing the furnace and A/C units, they installed new venting for the furnace and a new chimney liner for our water heater. They worked efficiently and kept our house clean. They were also friendly and courteous. Everything went smoothly. Nearly a couple of months have passed since the installation, and we've had no issues. Obviously, we haven't been able to use the A/C yet, but we're confident that all will be well when the time comes. All in all, we were very happy we went with Harker and would recommend them to anyone.

    Cooper Plumbing LLC
I am very pleased with the work done by Cooper & Sons.  My water heater went out on Tuesday morning and I immediately checked Angie's list to find a skilled, reputable, and professional plumber.  I checked out a number of plumbers on Angie's list and I decided to call Cooper & Sons based on the reviews.  While waiting for a call back - in the interim, I called a few plumbers that I found via Google - I got quotes and most plumbers talked against the tankless but I got the feeling it was because they really don't know much about them or how to install them (just my opinion).  However, once I spoke with Brandon I found that was the best call I made - they were out by late noon and I had a new tankless water heater in place by the next day.  Prior to coming out - Brandon gave me a professional recommendation based on what I was looking for - the tankless is more expensive but will pay for itself in a reasonable amount of time.  I have an older basement and the old tank water heater was sitting in the middle of the floor - not only was it unsightful - it took up too much space based on the size of the basement.  The installation was quick, professional, and they even cleaned up after all the work was done!  I mentioned a leaky kitchen faucet and they fixed that for me at no charge!
I can't say enough great things about this company and I would absolutely would use them again.  I have a plumber for life and that's a great feeling! :)

On the Friday morning after Christmas our house was filled with family members. I was the first one out of bed and discovered we had no hot water. Upon checking in the basement, I found a wet floor. It was obvious that our water heater had given out at a critical time. At 8 am I called Lichtfeld. Melanie answered and we discussed my problem. She offered me a choice of a couple of different heaters with different prices and warranties. By 2 pm we had a new heater installed up and running. Lichtfeld helped avoid a major family crisis with their quick and effective response. They are very good people to work with and I would highly recommend them.

    Pete's Plumbing Service LLC
The plumbers did show up on time. There was an issue in shutting my water off as the handle broke off in their hand when they tried to turn it off.  I don't dispute that this can happen.  Pete did show me his work when finished and explained how to shut off the water with the new valves that he installed.  I noticed that the floor was wet and there were dirty foot prints but decided I could clean it up when they left.  Within 10 minutes of them leaving I noticed that there was a leak.  i called Pete and he said he was on the west side of Madison and would get back when he finished his next job.  I explained that I needed to be to work in less than 2 hours and he said he would be back by then.  He was not back by then and when I called him again he suggested I just leave my door unlocked for him.  I had no choice.  He called me later to tell me that the leak was repaired.  When I returned home from work I found that it was still leaking.  I called twice in the morning and finally Pete called back and said he was sending a plumber over to make the repairs. The repairs were made and so far no leaks (2 days).   I told Pete in our initial phone call that I wanted an energy efficient water heater and asked him what kind he installed as MG&E was offering $50.00 rebates on many brands and I could just give him a model number.  He explained to me that he only installed energy efficient heaters and it cost the last person $85 more to get the $50 rebate.  Foolishly I believed him.  I now have a water heater with an annual energy rating of costing $102 more per year than the 20 year old unit he replaced.  Shame on me for that one.  Overall, I am very disappointed with this company and would never use them again.
