House Painting reviews in Monona

  • Mike and his crew were awesome. Meticulously completing the project in 3 days. Mike matched the existing colors we wanted and used the very best materials. They cleaned the site each evening when they left. We would highly recommend Michael's Painting.

  • Working with College Works Painting has been very disappointing. When the college student came out to give us an estimate, she didn't give an accurate quote with the right type of paint. It wasn't until after we signed a contract and we did our "design consultation" that she told us we either needed two coats of the paint she quoted us for or needed to choose a more expensive paint. She expected the job to take 3-4 days. It was nearly two weeks before the job was done. There is also a huge paint spot in my grass on my front lawn where they rinsed out all of their brushes, etc at the end of every day. When I asked her about it she said, "it should grow back next year". Before we started the job, someone from the College Works Carpentry department called and offered to do a free estimate of any woodwork that needs to be replaced before the painters started. He found several areas of rotten wood around some windows and a sliding glass door. This didn't come as a surprise to me and we agreed to have those pieces replaced before the painters came. They couldn't get the work done before the painting job so they assured me the carpenters would paint the pieces they replaced. I had the carpentry team say they were coming and then not show up two times before I called the team and one man gave me every excuse in the book for not showing up. He said he'd be there the next day, they would do a great job, it would be beautiful, I would love it, etc. I really was understanding - life happens. They came the next day, were at the job for less than two hours, and did an absolutely terrible job. I have photos. The removed a piece of wood from the bottom of my sliding glass door that left space between the wood and the glass - you could put your finger in it (and risk cutting your finger on the glass). I called the man who set up the carpentry job and he came out to take a look. He agreed that the job was absolutely unacceptable. I requested my down payment back and he said he would take care of it. He also said would have them come back and fix everything. I wasn't comfortable with the same team coming back and requested a different team. He agreed. That new team came and shared with me what had been done to the sliding glass door damaged it too badly for him to fix or finish the repair and if he tried, the entire panel could fall out. He said he could put a temporary fix in, just to keep bugs out and keep air from flowing in and out, but the door would need to be replaced. He finished the rest of the repairs but didn't have time to paint it because he had so many jobs with College Works - most of which were repair jobs like ours. At this point, I still hadn't gotten my down payment back. I called the man who set the job up again and explained the situation. He eventually called me back with a "settlement" that they would take $400 off the cost of the whole job - still not having refunded my down payment. Again, I said this was unacceptable. My door has been damaged beyond repair and based on my research, I'm going to have to pay close to $2000 to replace it. He said he was stuck in the middle and would have someone from their corporate office get back to me that day (Friday) or the following Monday. It's now late in the day Wednesday and I still haven't heard back from them. In the meantime, I have to finish my own painting job on the trim where the carpentry work was done. Working with College Works has been a headache and a disappointment from the start. i was really hoping to support an organization that helps teach students business skills and what working in the real world is like. However, the person in charge of my painting job never spoke with the carpentry department in regards to scheduling work or when I had concerns. Her response was, "yeah I have other jobs that aren't happy either". No one is taking responsibility and making things right. What's sad to me is these college kids have no skin in this game. They don't care if their summer job gets a bad review - they're back to school in the fall and on to the next thing. This company needs some serious oversight to assure jobs are quoted correctly from the start and are finished completely.

  • A great experience with Tom and his crew. Tom was very responsive and professional when I requested an estimate and gave me lots of personal attention. When I hired him for the job, he continued to be responsive, professional and proactively kept me updated as the painting progressed. His crew is detail oriented, professional, polite, cleaned up after themselves each day, and they go above and beyond the call of duty. The house was power washed, surfaces were expertly prepped, any necessary carpentry work was done and looked great, and the paint job was thorough and beautiful. I'm so proud of my house now.

  • I was very pleased. Prompt response for an estimate. Flexible timing for the job, scheduling to avoid a time when I wasn't in town. Excellent attention to preparing the old cedar siding and weathered wood porches. Easy on the plants around the house and garage, and leaving no paint mess. Two coats on the siding and porches, and precise attention to the lines between trim and siding.

  • Super! They arrived on time, worked all day and cleaned up at the end of each day. They kept me informed of progress and notified me of any issues they found promptly. Great communication with everyone.

  • Jakob was punctual, communicated well, and knew what he was doing.  I'm 90% satisfied with the quality of the work - one of the painters in particular seemed put out that I wanted the contracted two coats on the trim, where the coverage was clearly uneven and the old paint was visible under the single coat.  He eventually agreed to give the trim another coat, after some grumbling.
As far as the finished product goes, I'm happy with how it looks from the street.  Up close, you can tell the difference between the sections they sprayed vs. small areas they touched up with a brush - the sheen is a little different between the two.  But it's not bad, and looks way better than it did before.  There are some areas that I have my doubts about the long-term durability of, but that's where the warranty will come in.  Is it as good a job as I would have done myself?  No, but I have been meaning to paint the house for a couple of years and never found the time.  So in my mind, a B+ job is better than the crummy-looking status quo we were living with.
Because they offered a 10% discount if I signed up on the spot, I didn't shop around (I know, I know...) - but the price seemed reasonable given the pricing I've seen on Angie's List for similar houses.

  • Eric and his crew did a fantastic job painting the exterior of our house. The end-product is even better than I imagined. Eric and his crew were fastidious in their preparation - we had a lot of peeling paint and they took care to collect it all. I haven't seen any paint chips on the lawn. The crew tidied up at the end of every day, keeping their ladders stacked all in one spot. They thoroughly scraped and primed every inch of the house. We had booked Eric late last fall anticipating that we'd be able to get the job done right away in the spring, weather permitting. It was a very late spring but as soon as the forecast turned, Eric contacted me to arrange a start date. When part of the first coat of white trim was painted, it was a little too bright to match our white clad windows (which were not going to be painted). One quick call to Eric and he made sure to tint the white to match. Neighbors have commented on how great the house looks. So, it was really an excellent experience from start to finish and I whole-heartedly recommend Eric!

  • My experience with Peters Painting Contractors was first rate from beginning to end. Eric Peters and his employees were easy to work with,  knowledgable ,thorough, and professional. They did excellent work and completed the job in a timely fashion. The house is 34 years old and had never been stained, the siding varied from completely bleached out to black with mildew. It has been transformed and now has an almost uniform shade.  The siding is now a beautiful warm rich cedar tone. I could not be happier with the outcome of this project, it far exceeded my expectations.

  • The work went exceptionally well. As we accessed our situation, we had painting completed on the interior as well. The cost was not out of line and he was very honest and direct with us. We have been more than satisfied with the work, with his integrity and with his positive and friendly attitude. I can't say enough about the experience of working with him. He was very timely, kept in contact with us and made several recommendations and referrals to outsource other areas of work that needs to be completed prior to the listing of the property. We really enjoyed working with him. I very highly recommend him and his company. You will not be disappointed.

  • Pete was very professional and friendly.  He gave me an estimate beforehand, came on time and completed the work to my satisfaction.  He cleaned up after the job very well.  I was very impressed with the work and the price I got through the Big Deal.
