  • Update - Scott Frey contacted me after reading this review.  He immediately offered to bring me the report, refund my money, and arrange for an estimate if I was still interested.  He came to my house with the report and my refund, and even brought flowers.  He took the time to go through the report with me and explain the work that needs to be done.  I'm impressed with his responsiveness and will consider Frey for our upcoming roof replacement.  He is coaching his employees to make sure this doesn't happen again.

I had Frey out to repair a couple of shingles on my roof and to provide a
condition report, including pictures.  The estimated price was $381,
half was due before they would schedule the service, the other have due (and paid) the day of service.  The repair man
showed up on a day I didn't expect him, but it was okay because I
happened to be home.  I was told at the time of repair that my roof
needed to be replaced before winter, there was serious failure, and it
was in very bad condition.  He said he would send the report out as soon
    as he could.
I have waited months now, contacted them three
times via email, asking for my report.  The repairs and photos took less
than two hours and I supplied the materials.  The price of $381 is
outrageous, especially considering I have not received the report.  Not only that, I
was told they would followup with an estimate, which again has not been
I feel I was taken.  Two other roofing companies that came
out to provide estimates (after Frey didn't ever get back to me) said
that 1.  I did not need a roof replacement and 2. next time to call
them, they will do the repairs for $100-200.
    I would still like
to receive the report I paid for.  I'm really disappointed since Frey is
known to be overpriced, but I've always heard they give good service.

  • Work was done in a fairly timely fashion.
Some gutter work was installed without proper slope and incomplete caulking of the corner seams. I have pooling of rainwater and dripping on subsequent days.
Called to have them return to make proper adjustments but work has not yet been performed.

  • Frey  tried to convince us to use a very expensive roofing method to control/prevent moisture problems in our roof-  the second storey of our house is built into a sloping roof. We had owned the house for 8 years before undertaking remodeling, and never had any problems with the roof. But it was time to replace the shingles, and we asked that re-roofing be included in the bid.  They insisted they needed to raise the roof slightly and use their unique roofing method as part of their bid to re-roofed it.  It didn't matter that we had never had any problems.    They did not get our bid.

  • We purchased Angie's Big Deal of $400 worth of Roof Maintenance and Gutter Cleaning for $200.  We lost some shingles in a winter storm and needed them replaced and we purchased this deal for that specific purpose having called the office before purchasing to confirm this deal could be used for that.
We scheduled the work to be done in April, but when the worker arrived (late), he looked at our roof and said it was too steep and he didn't have the proper safety equipment to do the job, so we had to reschedule for a week later.  He came back the next time and he proceeded to do the work, having the shingles provided by us that we had left over from an addition that was done a few years ago.  He had looked at them when he was out the previous week and said they looked like they would be fine.  He finished in less than two hours and he left.
In the days that followed, we could see that he had pulled up old shingles to place the new ones under them, but he had done nothing to stick them back down, no nails or tar, and we could see them flapping in the wind.  Within three weeks of the work, we had high winds and the shingles started ripping off our house in sheets.  We called the company and after an afternoon of going back and forth, they agreed to have the same worker come out and fix the problem.  We would have preferred someone else because when we spoke directly to him about the issue, he told us that our roof was in such terrible shape we should not have had any expectation of any guarantee.  He had not mentioned anything about the sorry state of our roof the day he was out working on it (we bought the house only 18 months earlier and the inspector told us the roof had probably 5-7 years left). Unfortunately, we were informed by the owner of the company that the only person who was able to come do the work was the same person who was out before, so we had to accept that.
He came out and he replaced the shingles we lost, once again using the shingles we provided.  This time he took great care to tack the shingles he had to pull up back down.  It has been over 6 months and we have had no issues with the work or with our roof at all, in fact.  We expect it probably has at least another five years of life left in it.  We are happy with what we now have and we appreciated the owner stepping in and making it right, but we would have been much happier if we had received better customer service initially instead of an argument.

  • Roofing project estimate and explanations and scheduling were performed with promptness, courtesy and consistent, timely communication. Roof replacement was performed on home, studio and out building in 5 days while working with solar contractor to interface with a new solar PV installation. The roofing team discussed with the solar team, and coordinated all their work with the the solar contractor in a very professional and seamless project. absolutely not a single nail was found anywhere. The cleanup was the most conscientious we've experienced and they protected our gardens wonderfully. Absolutely the best roofing installation we've experienced and we've replaced 4 roofs in various homes and vacation homes we've owned in over 30 years. Ganser is a team of great professionals!

  • Our first appointment day, the rep called in to reschedule because of a minor family emergency.  I was okay with this and we rescheduled for the following Monday.  That Monday I took off of work to be home; no call, no show.  I thought about calling the rep to see where he was or if he was coming or not, but decided I really wasn't up for this if this is how the company works with its customers.

  • After numerous unreturned calls and a no-show by other contractors, I decided to go with Metal Roofing Systems (Gugger Construction) to install a metal roof. Right from the start, the customer service was pretty impressive. Mike from MRS handled almost all communications, including roof inspection and drawing up the final contract. Although his over-confidence can come off badly at first, it was probably justified since my questions were always answered promptly (via phone or email), nearly everything promised had been delivered AND on schedule, and I felt like my business--even with a small home--was important to him. The tear-down and installment took five days, as estimated, with four roofers/installers working eight hour days. I found the installers to be extremely competent, hard-working, and polite (even to me, a female customer), and was happy to see that they did a general clean-up after each day. The soffit work alone that they did around the uneven rock surfaces of my home was simply fantastic (and probably a pain in the butt to install). I inspected and photographed the work progress twice every day, and the only fix I had asked for, right after it was installed, was a replacement of a short piece of dented fascia. This was never done. I asked the installers a second time if they would replace it, and we agreed that they would try to fix it instead and see how it looks. I wasn?t happy with it and asked Mike if they could please replace it, to which he agreed, but later I found they had come by and covered it up instead. Still, their final repair of the fascia looks much better than the original installation. Another complaint would be the difficulty, or perhaps just confusion, with communication; who is in charge on the roofing crew, and if I speak to one of them, will my question/concern be passed on to the lead, even if he?s not there? The last thing I want to do is constantly nag or mention the same concern repeatedly when I see it hasn?t yet been addressed (like the fascia). I would have preferred a communication from Mike during or near the end of installation to help solidify the process. My only other complaint would be the final clean-up, which could have been better. Still, after having been in the home construction business myself, I am very happy with the overall workmanship and professionalism delivered by MRS and wouldn?t hesitate in using their business again. I believe the positives of the entire experience far outweigh the negatives. The project was on time, on budget, and I would highly recommend their services.

  • Originally, I was very impressed with this company as responsive and comprehensive. I have a house with varying rooflines, for which a gutter system was a challenge. Scott visited a couple of times to assess the situation and have a comprehensive plan in place. When the crew arrived (about 8) several of them took off and ran around the house looking the property over. I found this so unprofessional, I complained in writing to the company. The shingling of the roofing job was done adequately. The flashing however was sloppy and improperly finished around the chimney, over the clerestory and on the edge of the rubber roof. The newly installed gutters leaked. The company came back to resolve the issue. They never were. Even now, 1-1/2 years later, I am finding issues. In having my chimney repaired, the poor flashing job done by this company was pointed out to me. I would eventually have suffered water damage, due to their work and I am repairing other flashing done sloppily.
