    JM Mowin' and More
Arghhhh. Very bad experience. Hit or miss on showing up when lawn needed it - grass would get way too long. People would stop to look at it and just ponder... Then, they would show and one mower would get it right and the other would shear holes down to the soil. Mid-July they disappeared without explanation. Afraid I may have missed the June billing, I paid them what I thought they had done plus one extra just in case this was a money issue or something. Tried to later call, but my number was apparently on list of people blocked from that cell phone. They used a P.O. Box. Never heard from them again. BUYER BEWARE!

    Cantoral Maintenance
I called this lawn maintenance company and the gentleman who answered the phone said he could come right over to give me an estimate. Mr. Abelino Cantoral arrived within an hour of my phone call. We walked around my yard and he commented on the plantings and identified every kind of tree I have on the property. We agreed on a price for the clean up and then looked at the 10' X 4' mound of mulch I had from a tree that fell in my yard. He gave me a price on that and we shook hands on it. He was back the following Monday and Tuesday. Did a great job. My yard looks great. He will continue with lawn mowing as needed and I will probably ask him about other tasks he does.

Excellent work. Great follow through. Will have them doing all my yard work this year including spring cleanup, all lawn maintenance, and fall preparation for winter. I recommend them without any reservation.

    Advance Landscape Center Inc

(The work date is approximate.)  Essentially, they performed the work for the price they quoted. HOWEVER, our discontent results from the way the work was performed; that is we are unhappy because of the manner of timing and the garbage and pieces of curb and sidewalk in the dirt they brought and the way they tossed sod clods and whatnot into the bushes on the property line we share with a neighbor.  When speaking with the owner during the assessment/estimate, he did out-loud-thinking to wit, "In order to do this right I need to use a straw blanket, but we won't have those in for two weeks."  Note:  Due to his saying so, and as he failed to used a straw blanket, it is inarguable, by the rules of logic, that Advance Landscape DID NOT DO THE PROJECT RIGHT.  The owner saying that they would not have the straw blanket for two weeks resulted in my reasonably understanding that the work would not begin for, oh, about, say, two weeks.  This was good because I agreed, at his suggestion, to a more expansive/expensive project than I had originally intended and had called for him to estimate, so I needed to discuss it with my wife so we could make sure we were in agreement on the new, more expensive project recommended by Advance Landscape.  During our discussion we determined that we wanted to go back to the original plan and I intended, later that day, when, presumably, I would be less likely to interrupt the day's business, to call Advance Landscape and let them know of my intention to cancel the more expansive project in favor of my original, much more modest intent.  Well that very day, (when I was going to call later), when nobody was looking, they came and did the work.  First they brought dirt out of which I picked some curb, some sidewalk and some garbage, yes, I mean plastic bag garbage and plastic strapping garbage.  I was a bit concerned that this pile of dirt was going to sit in my yard for about two weeks (and, in hindsight, wish that it had as that would have allowed me time to call and make the change I wanted to make).  The whole of the greater project involved tearing up a section of my yard which they had done before I even realized that the work had started, nearly two weeks earlier than Advance Landscape said it would.  As for the finishing of the project, I must presume that they used at least two different grass seed mixtures, as some of the area seems to have been sown with what is presumably about a 20/80 mix of weed seed to grass seed and other portions a mixture of about 40/60 weed seed to grass seed.  One other, maybe "less important, courtesy-thing" we'd mention is how the man doing the work left our hose on after spraying the weed/grass seed mixture before leaving, not to mention his not rolling the hose back onto the reel from which he retrieved it.  Also, I'm not a professional so can't be certain, but it seems that the grade they left us with could have been more conducive to the needs of a residential yard than it is.  Oh, how I wish I had checked the Better Business Bureau rating of Advance Landscape (F) before I started.     (Disclosure:  I went to grade school and high school with the owner, who did the estimate, but we did not pal around though we knew each other and I had no reason to dislike him. Additionally, I was offered a $50 "courtesy credit," presumably because the owner knows I am unhappy with their performance, but, as I was out several hundred dollars more, (I would reasonably presume), than I would have been if I had been allowed to change the project as I desired, I rejected the credit because I am convinced to this day that the owner does not understand my discontent and has no desire to.)

Mike and his team were terrific. They finished the job in less than two days because they didn't waste any time at all...and the completed work is even better than I hoped it would be. Mike was very easy to work with and very conscientious about making sure everything was completed to my satisfaction. I had requested that some plants be moved to a new location but he recommended waiting a couple of months to give them a better chance of surviving. He showed up a couple of months later and completed the transplanting (I had forgotten I asked him to do that but he didn't forget.) The plants are quite happy in their new location and now there is new growth on every one of them.

    Entire experience was excellent.

I’ve been using them for 3 years now. He is very personable and easy to work with. He responds to your calls very rapidly. The service is excellent. It’s right up there at the top especially for how much I’m paying him.

    Best Choice Landscape Inc
This was a huge job undertaken to correct water getting into our basement. We were nervous about the expense but Best Choice has been absolutely fantastic. They have come back out several times to check on the grass and address various concerns. We have had several torrential rainfalls since they did the work for us, and have had NO water in the basement. We used to get seepage with the slightest rainfall.
We could not be happier with the work these guys did. Everyone we've dealt with has been professional and responsive, and they are expert problem-solvers. When something they'd originally planned to do didn't work out, they adjusted the plan and made it even better. We would recommend them without hesitation!

    Hawks Landscape Inc.
We purchased most of the perennials Katie suggested and planted them ourselves according to her plan. Overall, we are pleased with how the border looks and like the plants she suggested. I do think she overestimated the amount of sun some areas get, because some of the plants are leggy and we have had to stake them. W do plan to have some tree/hedge trimming done, so this should look even better next year. The grass seeding, however, is another matter, and we have not been happy with the number and size of bare spots after the initial seeding in May. Katie came back in July and took pictures and a crew came about 10 days ago and did a new topdressing and re-seeding of the many bare areas, so we will see how that turns out. We are pleased that they are making an effort to see that we are satisfied. Also, we knew to expect some weeds in the new seeding, but are not happy about the large amount of Quackgrass, something that has not been a problem in the yard before and is apparently very hard to get rid of. I have tried to pull some of it by hand before it gets established, but cannot keep up. So - would we work with Hawk's again? I would say yes, based on the customer service aspect, wich to us is very important. Katie has been professional and pleasant to work with, as was the 2nd crew who came for re-seeding. (Couldn't say about the first because they came when we were not home.) They have been responsive, perhaps a little slow but calls have been returned, and they have come back to fix what we are not satisfied with. Based on how the grass seeding has turned out so far, I do think the cost was excessive.

A CUT ABOVE TREE SERVICE AND LANDSCAPING
We had 3 estimates (all from Angie's List) and chose A Cut Above even though it was more expensive, because we were very impressed with Mike's professionalism, knowledge, and the fact that he does the work himself, even driving the stump grinder. We also liked that he has equipment to reach over the house into the back yard to remove the two trees and did not have to drive heavy machinery on our lawn or the neighbors'.  The trimming & tree removal took just a few hours; they came back a week later with another really cool machine to grind the stumps. Very professional, excellent communication throughout. Best of all, they did a fabulous cleanup, even raked the front yard leaves. All that made it worth the higher price and we would definitely use them again.

He has been very inconsistent.  The schedule to when he was going to do the application were seldom followed.  On my contract, I told him to contact me 2 days before they come so I could have my lawn cut, but this never happened.  When they were spraying my lawn, they did it very quickly and it was never thorough.  My lawn never looked healthy and I had weeds that I never had before.  There were weeds in between my yard and my neighbors that were about a foot wide and fifteen feet length of area, and he refused to spray these weeds.  Before he ever started I mentioned these weeds and he said he would take care of them but he never did.  This service has been pitiful on the part that the owner has not taken responsibility for his mistakes.
