    BAY VIEW TUCKPOINTING CO
Meg is one of the hardest workers I've had perform repairs on my house. My chimney started leaking and she was at my house the next day to give me an estimate. The first 3 days on the job, Meg worked close to 30 hours. She takes pride in her work and will not finish until she's satisfied with the quality. She put up scaffolding and then went up to cut out mortar joints, caulk, and seal. She tried to keep the dust down with a work vacuum with a hepa filter and also went around at the end of each work day and cleaned up. Meg kept me abreast of exactly what she was doing each day and what the schedule would be. At the end she had to wait for it all to dry and then seal the chimney and she did her best due to a day of rain in between to get things done and everything cleaned up within 2 weeks. I felt complete trust in the job she was doing and confidence that my chimney problem would be solved. I can tell just be looking at it from the ground to 1 1/2 stories up that it is a "work of art" with all the caulking between the stone and the joints and the cracks. It looks very smooth. I had 3 estimates and BVT came in at a cost in the middle of the other two. I've used BVT 10 years ago, so I was pretty sure from the get go I would use them again. Very happy I did. "The Brick and Mortar Craftsmen" is their motto and Meg is definitely an artist in her work.

    KRUEGER ROOFING
It turns out our roof is less than 10 years old. Bob Krueger caulked some minor areas and assessed that the roof would be solid for another 4-7 years. We were NEVER pressured to sink the money into a new roof. Bob Krueger was professional and responsive to our needs. We would rate Krueger Roofing AAA+!

    Quality Fireplace & Chimney Service
Everything went very well.  The service man, Ray, called in advance to confirm appointment, arrived on time, explained the work to be done and proceeded without wasting any time.  He protected the work area and explained the work as it progressed.  He explained what the had found and showed in pictures any area of concern or to be watched.  His work was very thorough. He suggested various things that could be done to protect and extend the life of the chimney.

The employees contacted me within a few days of me submitting my request. They called the morning of service and were very polite and helpful offering various times for the service to be completed. They arrived on time and were exceptionally clean and courteous. They found additional work that they suggested I address but we're not pushy. They have less expensive alternative ideas to help with my chimney problems until I can afford to have the work professionally addressed

    Stendahl Exteriors
When I saw the Big Deal email from Angies List for this job I grabbed it, knowing I would need a new roof soon.  Consistent with the Big Deal, I got a 40% to 45% discount on the job; as a comparison, a year earlier I received a $20,700
estimate from another roofer.  Since Stendahl was rated As everywhere, and the roofing materials carried a GAF non-prorated 50 year warranty, it seemed to be a no-brainer.  I verified that they were a GAF certified roofing contractor.  Steve Spaeth of Stendahl quoted me the price on 6/7/13, when I signed the contract and paid the 50% down.  He told me that they would do my roof by sometime in July or August.  After a lot of phone calling and multiple delays, they got to my roof on October 11.  Ill let them explain why it took so long.  They finished the top roof on a Friday and lower roof on Sunday (rain Saturday).
Neither Steve or Jason Stendahl (the company owner) were there to supervise on Sunday; it appeared that Stendahl had two or three jobs going on at once.   I was watching them through my windows on Sunday, and noticed that they were not going to replace the old vent they removed from the lower roof over the laundry room and garage (3/5 of the roof covers the garage) nor install a ridge vent, and I became concerned that a vent was needed.  I called both Steve and Jason but got no answer.  I then
discussed this issue with the roofers and since they had no replacement vent I ended up driving to Menards to buy one.  Steve
later said that he intended to replace the vent but failed to tell the roofers.  The next day my wife and I concluded the flashings needed painting; nobody discussed this with me, and the flashing did not look good: white flashing and black caulking on dark shingles!  When Steve came later that day to collect final payment I mentioned that and the flashings were within a couple of days.  A week or so later I was up on the roof for the first time and found that approximately four feet of ridge shingles over
the garage were never installed.  I notified Stendahl.  Then, on November 17 we had a 2.5 rainfall, and I discovered the flashing on the garage roof had a serious leak, soaking the roof deck and chimney cinder blocks and creating a large puddle on the garage floor.  Jason came out and verified that it was a bad flashing, not the chimney, but within a week it
began snowing, ending any roof work until Spring.  In March I found out the leaky flashing was not the first job on their list, and after several phone calls they came out and fixed the leaky flashing, this time with black flashing with white
caulking!  However, when it subsequently rained, water still showed up on the chimney cinder blocks in the garage and a
spot or two on the roof deck.  Since my chimney had been leaking for years and may be the reason for the remaining leaks,
in July I had the old crown removed and a new cap installed and the chimney treated with water repellent.  I then verified
no leaking anywhere with liberal use of a garden hose and several heavy rainfalls.  Then, Stendahl came out and installed the missing ridge shingles and repainted all three flashings, BUT the shingles and flashing paint were the wrong color!  More phonecalls.  On 10/17/14 the correct shingles were installed and on 10/31/14 the flashings were painted the correct color.  The entire job took 16 months from signature of contract.  It should have taken three months max and ended no more than three days from beginning of roof tear off; had the flashing been done right the first time my leaky chimney would not have been an issue in the delay.  I always felt that my roof was low priority and neither Steve or Jason did an adequate job of supervising or inspecting the work of their contractors.  I would rate the GAF roofing materials an A but the quality of the flashing and ridge shingle installations sinks my overall job quality rating to a C.  Although I think I got a good roof for a great price, my experience overall with Stendahl was negative for all the reasons cited above, plus the emotional stress caused by having to deal with all the unnecessary errors and the constant question "will this job ever get done?"

    Wisconsin Chimney Technicians Inc
I have a double fireplace chimney which has been leaking
water down the chimney portion in the garage during heavy rainfall for years,
and the exterior brick was slowly crumbling at the top around the crown.   I just
had a roof job done where the roofers seriously botched the lower flashing
installation on the garage roof.  When
they fixed the flashing I did not know for sure how much of the remaining
leakage was still the flashing or chimney, so I had the chimney work done.  I got three quotes, and Wisconsin Chimney
Technicians was the most professional and their quote was competitive.   I didn?t
like the solution one company proposed to fix the leakage (rebuild the crown
instead of installing a new cap, at the same cost with a few other things), and
the other was so busy they could only come when I wasn't home and didn't
address all my concerns in the proposal, didn't even look at the furnace
chimney.  Jim did the quote and I believe
Tony did the work.  I did not meet Tony
but Jim seemed very knowledgeable and polite; he recommended a cap to bring the
chimney up to code and stop the deterioration of the brick.  I signed the contract on June 11 and they did
the work on July 14, about when they promised.
It was one day of work.  I have no
complaints, they left the roof very clean when they were done.  I was concerned about the the broken brick being
overlooked, which Jim thought was the reason for the leakage.  He did not want to replace but instead seal
the brick because it was bonded to the flashing.  However they were communicating well (unlike
the roofers) and the brick and all other issues were fixed by Tony without my
intervention.  After the work was done I
verified the chimney was water tight, as well as the flashing; now there?s no
leakage into the garage at all even in heavy rainfall.  I?m very pleased with their work and the cap
and new tiles look sharp.  The cost cited above was after the 5% Angie's List discount.  I give A's for cost only when there are deeper discounts.

    Royal Chimney Service
We had Royal Chimney come out to give us a free estimate. The estimator showed us pictures of the damage and left us with a written estimate. After some discussion and several estimates from other chimney repair company's, we decided to use Royal Chimney. Once our down payment was received, Royal Chimney contacted us to schedule an appointment to begin the work. The repairmen that came to my father's home did and excellent job. They also did not track any mess into his home. We would use Royal Chimney in the future.

It was great.  They were on time, came when they said they would, and were very professional and very courteous.  It was a pleasant experience.  I think the price was pretty good but I didn’t really compare it with a lot of other providers.

I thought the estimate was fair and agreed to the service.  The first day without rain was the following Saturday and I was surprised to see them working on the weekend and even more surprised to see them finish the job on Sunday  I was impressed that the quote and the work were both done by the same people.  I needed several bricks replaced and they matched 45 year old bricks close enough that i could not tell which ones they replaced.

When I called to schedule an appointment, they were able to come same day if I wanted, but that didn't work for me so we scheduled next day.  The 2 men arrived on time, placed tarps down on the carpet and fireplace work area.  They cleaned the inside of the chimney and inspected the inside/outside also.  They worked my flu a bit to make it easier to open and close since it is original to my 1970 home.  No other issues were found, so they were in and out in less than 1 hour.  Very polite and curteous; I would use them again.
