  • We were somewhat optimistic after our first meeting with Dr. Olive- he spent a lot of time with us, was friendly, and gave us an excellent prognosis. In hindsight, we were naive to take his word for it, given that he arrived at that prognosis without doing ANY testing whatsoever (not even a basic blood draw). He started me on oral medication with a trigger shot, and despite several unsuccessful cycles (and me being 35), he literally waved us off (almost a "talk to the hand" gesture) when we tried to ask questions about whether to pursue more aggressive treatment. Then a couple of cycles later, I saw the nurse for an appointment and she told me we absolutely should be more aggressive and suggested IUI.
As it turns out, our IUI was the last straw for us. There is a ton of research which shows that IUI should be done within 30-60 min after collection. WFI schedules the procedure for TWO HOURS after collection. We were then kept waiting for another 20 minutes past my appointment time, during which time we could hear Dr. Pritts and a bunch of nurses loudly joking around and socializing in the hallway (the waiting room was FULL of increasingly angry patients). I'd been told to come to the appointment with a full bladder and after waiting 20 minutes, I was actually in PAIN because I needed to use the restroom so badly. When I told the nurse that they cannot ask people to come with a full bladder and then keep them waiting, she apologized profusely and insisted that is "not the norm" for IUI's there. Then she tried to tell me that the delay was because Dr Pritts was "doing an inservice for the nurses." Unfortunately for her, all of us in the waiting room had clearly heard their social conversation in the hallway, and even if the lie were true, what kind of clinic stops everything in the middle of the day for an impromptu inservice with a waiting room full of people who are there for time sensitive procedures!? We were also told by Dr. Pritts that we'd done a lot of medicated cycles and needed to be more aggressive and that we needed to go straight to IVF.  We were angry about this because suddenly after being told for months that there's no need to try other options, we're suddenly being told we need this $15,000 procedure (none if which is covered by insurance) but even after nine months there, they've still done absolutely NO TESTING of any kind. I then looked at their IVF success rates and found that they are far below the national average (look up the SART data). At that point, we realized we were just dollar signs to them, and we've now made an appointment to switch to Generations through UW. I would urge anyone to DO YOUR RESEARCH before choosing an RE.  If we had, we would never have gone to WFI and we'd have saved a lot of heartache and money.
