Auto Repair reviews in Ashland

    BULL DOG AUTO REPAIR LLC
I wanted to be reimbursed for $1541.41 (one thousand five hundred forty-one and 41/100 dollars). Here is why. When your shop, Bulldog Auto Repair, replaced the clutch in the 2002 Saturn SL sedan I own the second time, all the fluids and parts were replaced your auto repair shop, except the fly-wheel. However, when the auto repair shop in Medford, Oregon replaced the second clutch your shop put in, all the fluids and parts were replaced INCLUDING the flywheel. And I want to be reimbursed for the inspection/consulting fees I had to pay two other auto repair shops. Those two shops inspected the Saturn for oil leaks that OReilly Auto Parts said contaminated the first clutch you put in the Saturn. They found no oil leaks from the engine/oil pan. However, when the third clutch was installed by the auto repair shop in Medford, OR, they found that the oil leak that contaminated two clutch plate kits was not from an engine oil leak, but from transmission oil getting past the input bearing. Your Auto Technicians had two opportunities to find this problem and missed it both times. The shop in Medford, OR discovered it the first time they made repairs. Also, you claim the seal went bad AFTER the second clutch was installed. I dont think so. When I called you in the Fall of 2015 it was because the clutch was slipping in fifth gear and then eventually in fourth gear. You test drove it and agreed. On October 26, 2015 at 157,825 miles on the Saturn, your auto repair shop replaced that clutch with a kit I purchased from OReilly Auto Parts. I thank you for allowing me to do that, to try and keep my repair costs down. However, 7,844 miles later a second clutch had to be put in on April 18, 2016. Your shop did that work, too, with a clutch kit you purchased from Napa Auto Parts. Your Technicians claimed it was a faulty clutch. OReilly Auto Parts said their clutch was not faulty. They said their clutch failed because it was oil contaminated. I obtained seasonal employment in Oregon after Bulldog Auto Repair installed the second clutch, the one from Napa. I had great confidence all was well. Shortly after I arrived in Oregon the clutch began to slip again, in fifth gear. Then in fourth gear. And then in third gear. And in fairly quick succession, too. I couldnt believe it! I was in denial that it was happening! Only 3,614 miles on that second clutch and it slipped already! Bulldog said it wasnt your Technicians workmanship, it was because I pulled a trailer cross-country. Are you kidding me? The Harbor Freight trailer weighs 253 pounds. I put a plywood deck and sides on the trailer. Two sheets of plywood weighs in at 136.32 pounds. Then I strapped a Harley-Davidson Sportster, 562 pound, onto the deck of the trailer. The total weight is 951.32 pounds. If I rented a U-Haul trailer, a 4 x 8 cargo trailer, according to U-Haul I could have loaded that trailer with 1150 pounds of stuff. If U-Haul thought a 2002 Saturn SL couldnt pull that kind of weight, U-Haul would not let a customer do that. Therefore, I was pulling a trailer and load that was 1,048.68 pounds lighter than what U-Haul said a Saturn SL could pull. Besides, I pulled that same Harbor Freight trailer back to Wisconsin loaded with the same Sportster, and a few other items, with no problems. In other words, I have driven, now, 12,286 miles without any clutch problems. And 2,032 of those miles were pulling a loaded trailer. So, I wanted to be reimbursed the entire $1541.41. I had three mechanical jobs done by Bulldog auto repair shop and all three of those jobs were faulty. The wheel bearing replacement and two clutch replacement jobs, all had to be redone. I gave Bulldog Auto Repair the benefit of the doubt that the wheel bearing was defective, but your Technicians missed an oil leaking input bearing in the transmission twice. I dont know why they could not have seen the oil all over the clutch when they removed it. When the Medford auto repair shop showed me the second clutch Bulldog installed the oil coating could be plainly seen. Bulldog Auto Repair also installed a defective flywheel. You got to be kidding me. Putting defective parts back into a vehicle? Even I wouldnt do that. 12-8-16: Bulldog did not reply by 12-2-16 to above letter. I called Bulldog Auto Repair and they assured me they would talk to me on 12-5-16. I called Bulldog on Tuesday, 12-6-16. The owner made a low-ball offer, but I got him to agree to pay me $1000.00. I am not happy with 64% of $1541.41, but I have to be satisfied. It took over 6-mos. to get to this point and 1-yr. of bad auto repairs, stalling tactics, and blaming me for the shoddy work they did. I guess $541.41 loss is to educate Bulldogs Auto Technicians. Dont get your auto repairs done at Bulldog Auto Repair in Ashland, WI.

This place is a rip off.  I took my car there for a water pump bag and they are always something adding on.  There find some part that needs replacement other than what you take the car there for.

Tom does an excellent and a very, very fair job, you will not find a more honest mechanic anywhere! I have had many many things done by him and he always does them on time and at the lowest cost, he will not do or suggest un-needed things, well worth the drive to Marengo.  You will not be disappointed and he can handle any job dealing with automobiles.

I went in there and asked him what kind of tires I should put on my truck. He raved about a particular brand. I bought the tires and got about 8,000 miles on the tires before they wore out. The manufacturer said that they would buy me two tires, and I had to buy the other two. I no longer go there.

Soon after I purchased the vehicle, I found out it had a lot of mechanical problems. I only had the car for a very short time, and it ended up needing more repairs than the value of the vehicle. I did not get much use out of the car by the time it started having transmission problems, along with several other issues. In my opinion, they sold me a lemon. When I brought the car into their service department to get some problems diagnosed, I asked to get a loaner car. The service manager said "We only give loaner cars to the people who buy their vehicles here." I replied "I DID buy the car from you!!" They should provide the same service to everyone, regardless of where they bought their car. And I am offended they did not even realize I really did buy the car there, just a short time before. Somebody told me that the business is now under different management. Regardless, I will still not go back there.

Just a routine oil change with no problems identified. They know I am a single person and not knowledgeable about cars, so they always check everything over for me to keep me on the road.
