    Kevin Huck Masonry
Fox Valley Friends, word of advice if you're in the market for some concrete/brick work - stay clear of Kevin Huck Masonry. No Professionalism, messy work, unorganized, and worst of all, he won't follow through on commitments. I'm still waiting on him to finish sealing the steps and driveway pad he put in. We are three months post install and I've already got mortar cracking and breaking out, which he said he would repair, but now he won't respond to calls or texts. When I did finally get in touch with him (I had to call from a different number to get him to answer) he committed to a date and time, but he never showed. I also had to break up a pad of extra waste concrete that he poured into my neighbor's driveway because he never showed back up to clean up his mess. I also had to ask him more than once to do simple things like clearning up up after himself after leaving broken brick and dried mortar in my grass. I've sent 12 texts since the end of August which have gone unanswered. He won't answer my call. I personally know another family that he has bailed on as well after misleading them about project costs. The guy is NOT somebody you want to do business with.

    All City Mudjacking & Masonry
They were quick to respond for the quote, they set up the appointment and they (surprise, surprise ) WERE ON TIME, some people
really know how to read a watch correctly.
The people doing the work were very professional, friendly. The clean up was outstanding wouldn't know that they were here.
They were extremely careful around the flower beds, making sure that there was no damage when getting water.
They did the job a couple of others said could not be done and should be replaced at more than triple the cost.
They void filled, and I did NOT get any cracks in the existing concrete that were not there before they started, and those that were there did not get any bigger or longer.

    Basement Repair Specialists LLC
They arrived as schedules and complete the work in estimated time. Work was completed and effectively matched to our desires and issue to be resolved. Their solution was a substantial reduction (50%) from competitive offering based on the root cause of the problem instead of pushing the competitive solution which was over-kill. Reasonable accommodation of post- construction site restoration was reached considering further unrelated work completed after they were done. Extremely satisfied with work, timing and customer management.

    Spencer Concrete
Spencer and his crew did an outstanding job replacing our driveway.  The estimating process was very thorough and Spencer was willing to listen to our concerns about pitch for drainage and worked with our plans.  It was clear that he was interested in giving us a driveway that we would be happy with.
As soon and the crew was onsite there was a flurry of activity, no one was standing around.  They very quickly removed the existing driveway, including areas that were much thicker than expected and had large tree roots underneath.  The crew worked well together and seemed to enjoy working together.  They were all courteous and professional as they worked.
The pour of the new driveway went very smoothly, with everything staying on schedule.  By the end of that day the drive had been poured, broomed and sealed, and the forms were even taken off.  The finished product looks and works great!
We enjoyed working with Spencer and his crew and definitely would consider them for future projects.

Update after 6 months and 2 years (entered 8-15-15):
After the first winter (6 months after installation) we found large cracks through the center of the slab areas extending about half the length of the driveway.  Spencer was contacted and asked to inspect the defect, but never came out to look or offer any resolution.  After another year (this spring) we noticed large patches of yellow sandy material showing through the surface of the lower half of the driveway.  Again, Spencer was contacted and he did not respond to the email or come to inspect even though he was working a block away.  We suspect that part of the driveway was poured with bad concrete mix and are now worried about durability.  The appearance of most of the driveway is now very bad.  No one would believe it is only two years old!  We have been especially disappointed in the lack of response and followup with this contractor.  It seems he does not stand behind his product.

    Spencer Concrete
I didn't end up going with Spencer because my husband wanted me to go with the group that replaced our front porch with a preformed porch last year.  I had problems with the porch issue because a cellar was built under the porch so it was a challenge finding someone who could come up with a solution for a crumbling porch.

    McHugh's Decorative Concrete
It all went without a hitch except some minor issues with a neighbor who seems to like his fence just a little too much. Brian and the guys took the fence down "A little 3 foot picket fence from Menards" so it wouldn't get damaged and when the owner showed up he got all bent out of shape. Enough about him though. It was a five week project and of course there was quit a mess for a while but it all turned out beautiful. After the driveway was poured, wouldn't you know it, it started to rain that night and Brian and Tom came over at four thirty in the morning to check whether the concrete was OK. I would recommend McHugh construction to everyone!

    Thompson Construction
I was very very happy with the man who came out.  I think their quote was reasonable.

I liked the fact that he got back to me right away, he called and said that he was going to be busy for a period of time, and he'd get back to me on another day. He made an appointment, actually on a Sunday, came out to take a look at it, he came and was there, didn't have to worry about him coming. He was actually there early.

We talked about it, what I want done with it, he was saying it can be done but it's going to be more expensive than if he took out the whole thing and put a new one in. He doesn't do that but he did know some people who did. He was very pleasant and extremely informative. What I want, it was $3500 and I said I'm not going to get that back when I sell my house later this year.  And I told him that, and he said "I don't blame you!" There were no hard feelings of me having wasted his time by coming out.   I liked him.

    MAIN CONCRETE
The experience with Main Concrete was not good. They poured a new driveway for me, and it is not quite two years yet, but we noticed when the ice began melting this year that it was scaling and all the gravel is beginning to come up. All the seams are disintegrating. I have worked with the Better Business Bureau and they have tried to resolve some of it, but he said all he would do is patch it up for us. I don't want a patched-up driveway, and I would take him to court but frankly, I can't afford a lawyer at $250 an hour. He came out in March and had a look, and he didn't think it was all that bad. He said he could patch it. I'm not expecting a patch job. Since then it is disintegrating. He poured 26 slabs. Out of the 26 there's maybe 6 of them that is not showing any deterioration. He blamed us for using salt - which we did not. Then it was salt off our vehicles! A couple of other professionals that we've had out have told us that we probably didn't notice it because we didn't know what we were looking for. They've said that it is probably an ongoing thing since the first year, but I can't prove it. The driveway was 'popping' which is small flakes, and scaling which is when the concrete comes off the top of the gravel. The whole thing is going to have to come up again. When they came to pour the concrete they said we can do this and that for you, and we had a contract. I don't have the contract any more because two months after the work we were broken in to and they took all our paperwork, money and the safe. It must have been in the safe because we can't find it. I didn't investigate this company because the Manager used to be employed by my workplace. I didn't know him particularly but he was familiar and I gave him the work. His prices were in line with everybody else. I called him in the spring about the damage and got his wife, she said he was out of town but she would have him call me back. He didn't. I finally got hold of him to come out and look at the driveway. His answer was "What do you want me to do about it?" ! I told him I wanted him to fix it. From that point on, he would not take my phone calls. On Saturday after he had not come out again, I used my daughter's cellphone and he didn't recognize the number. That's when he came out, he looked at it, and said basically the same thing: "Who's going to pay for this?" I said, not me, I paid you once.

    All City Mudjacking & Masonry
They called the day before to remind me that they were coming.  They came promptly at 7:30 AM.  They drilled holes in the cement to put their mudjacking equipment in order to raise the level of the patio, driveway, and sidewalk.  Then they carefully cleaned my front stoop and then applied the surface cement. They told me that it wold take several hours to completely dry.
