    DH West Coast Construction LLC
As first hand observers, we noted that the different DH crews and subcontractors exhibited the highest standards of workmanship and professionalism. Communication was excellent, beginning with the day we called Darrell to inquire about remodeling our home (he and Heather came the next day) and then email requests/updates with Heather both before the renovation started and throughout the project. We appreciated Heather's periodic emails indicating what would happen that day or week and then occasionally peek in on the action as it occurred. In general, it was a good interactive process that led to us to achieving the project we intended. The whole project was done in twelve weeks with minimal disruption while we stayed in the house. Owing to a handful of change orders to address items beyond what we'd originally scoped, the remodel was completed at 105% of the original bid. A lot of credit goes to Darrell and Heather for sending us to Creative Cabinet Designs and to Standard Floor and Paint to get our design choices and materials made before they offered us a bid. The upfront steps took us almost a month, but decision-making in that order gave us confidence in a more realistic bid from DH West Coast. Please take this review as a resounding recommendation for DH West Coast. They will be the first contractor we call should we take on another remodel project.

We had done a complete remodel before and the biggest problem with the contractor was the lack of communication and their failure to show up on a regular basis.  Based on family and friend's experiences, that's pretty common.  Darrell was nothing short of awesome.  He kept in contact with us regularly, he followed up on all my emails, he answered our questions quickly, we added several things not on the initial contract and he provided us with estimates promptly and did everything we requested.  He brought in an outside carpenter, plumper and electrician and they all did excellent work.  Darrell kept checking in to be sure we were satisfied with the work being done and he was quick to resolve any issues we had.  Darrell provided us with estimates on all the work we requested.  There were no $$ surprises.  The final bill actually came in a bit lower than my total based on the estimates. If you are looking for someone you can depend on, who will communicate effectively, who is conscientious about the quality of his work, who is upfront and honest, who is concerned that you are satisfied with the work being done, then Darrell is the guy for you!

Never questioned anything we wanted. Matter in fact made suggestions that made the job less expensive and much better. He was much more of a perfectionist than I was! He is there to please at a reasonable price.

Chad and Chris (his partner) came together to discuss how the work was to be done.  I had purchased the molding via the internet and had not taken it out of the package yet, so they unpacked it and discovered that 5 out of the 10 pieces of molding I ordered were damaged in shipping!  However, I was expecting furniture to be delivered in a couple of days, and was pretty desperate to get the floor finished, so Chad and Chris measured the room and the damaged pieces of molding and devised a way to complete the installation by cutting out the damaged sections.   Chris performed the work, did a beautiful job, and did a great job of cleaning up afterward (sawdust, etc).  We had speaker wiring coming up out of the floor in several places, and he notched the molding  to accommodate the wire in an attractive way.  Several hours after the work had been completed, Chad called to check to see if I was happy with the work, and actually sent Chris back to take photos of the job, since Chad was not able to go and inspect it himself.  I've never had a contractor follow up like that and be so concerned with quality - I was VERY impressed.  I will definitely call them again!

Budget Construction doesn't follow through on anything. His work is poor. He cuts corners. You can also see the glue marks where he put in the work.

We hired Ernesto Gonzalez through his General Contractor Licensure to frame and roof our new home. He assured us in the begining when we went over our plans (4 months before be began to build) that he was experienced and understood the plans and type of truss system for our roof, etc. He was gracious and accomodating, UNTIL WE SIGNED THE BID! Then, all of the sudden he was mister "this is going to cost you more, this is not my job". Further, he called multiple times a day to me at work asking questions about the plans, stating he did not understand them! He yelled at the truss company over the phone and hung up on the engineer when they tried to explain how to put our trusses on the roof (Yep, the ones he said he knew and had done before) suddenly he was clueless! It continued with his bad behavior until we started noticing discrepencies in the building of the house vs what was on our plans. Everytime we would ask him about it, he would blame our plans. He and his crew arrived 1 day early after our front porch concrete had been poured. The proceeded to roof over the porch and damaged our fresh concrete with big gouges and scrapes. When we confronted him he stated "myself nor my men were there that week"! We couldn't believe it. The code inspector saw him there that week AND he had signed for a delivery that week. We had to place a claim with his insurance co. They settled with us, stating that Mr. Gonzalez was being deceptive. However, that was not the worst of it! When we had the framing inspected by the Code inspector, he found massive flaws in the the building that did not follow our plans as written. Headers were either the wrong size, spliced in span, and/or missing entirely! This was a huge safety issue. We had engineered flooring as TGI's to be installed per the plans, they found he had omitted several of them and placed others not per plan. Engineers had to come to our home and calculate the loads for the entire 2 story home and come up with a correction plan because it was unsafe. Our staircase was not supported and the rise over run was incorrect. At this point, we were afraid to have him come back to make the corrections, because it was obvious he either was incompetent or didn't care. We paid him the first half of his payment, but withheld the 2nd half and hired another contractor to complete the revisions. Gonzalez then put a lien on our property and did not inform us. When we finally finished the house 2 1/2 months later than planned, our title company found the lien. We had to hire an attorney and put $11,000 in an escrow account inorder to get him to drop the lien so we could get a mortgage. That took another 2 months! Now, we are being sued by him for the 2nd half of his payment that he thinks we owe him. We are countersuing for the additional $19,000 that he has cost us. He changed his company name after he couldn't get insurance in May 2008 to Gonzalez and Sons Construction.
