  • In the interest of time, I will try to be brief. My wife and I live in Indianapolis, but I grew up out west. So we decided to get married outdoors, on a mountainside in Oregon. We were amazed by the pictures we saw from the Mt Hood BNB venue, and knew that this was the place, even though the site fee was really high, $7300. The wedding ceremony and reception were beyond our expectations, it was 80 degrees, beautiful. We stayed the night on the premises, and parted on good terms the next morning. This feeling of wedded bliss makes it difficult to talk about money, and I think the venue owners see an opportunity here. A month later, we received additional charges on our credit card in excess of $1000. After several phone and email conversations, it was explained that the majority of these charges were due to the following: 1) Early arrival fee. The contract stated that we could be charged $225 an hour if guests started arriving early en masse. However, we had been assured that this was more of a formality, an insurance clause. The bride, her mom, and maid of honor showed up 1.5 hours early to get ready, and were charged $450 extra. However this charge was never vocalized, just stealthily billed to us a month later. 2) Stand up propane heater rental. There were six heaters at the reception. These were never discussed in our contract, so I assumed they were part of the site fee. Remember it was 80 degrees that day. Late in the night, someone approached the mother of the bride to ask if she wanted the heaters turned on. She responded "ok". A month later we find out that these golden heaters cost an additional $360. 3) Wedding planner / coordinator. The owner of the B&B's 23 yr old daughter was engaged as a wedding coordinator, someone to help us with long distance planning. We paid her $900 lump sum to be the J-Lo, go to wedding coordinator during the 8 hours of ceremony and reception. That is $110 an hour for those of you keeping score at home. She did a good job, but again a mysterious $150 additional fee showed up on our credit card a month later. This was explained as the wedding coordinator's misc hours spent preparing for our wedding. We have attempted to resolve these issues with the business owners, but they refuse to refund one cent of the $9225 we have paid. We moved toward disputing the charges with our credit card, but didn't want to be dragged into a legal battle where more $ would be expended. Our only outlet is to warn others of our experience.
