  • My husband and I have been going to Dr. Hanson for approximately 4 years, twice a year. At our last visit in September 2008, my husband had 2 fillings replaced. I was told at this visit that I also needed a filling replaced. I made an appt. for a week or so later. After I got the filling I went to pay and was told it would be $600.00!!! I was stunned. I gave the front desk lady my debit card and she put $500.00 on it. I typically keep quite a bit in my checking account, but I was worried I wouldn't have enough!! I called my husband and told him what happened and he called the office. He was told that what I had done was a type of filling called an "inlay". Not once at my previous appt. or that day did anyone in that office tell me I was having an "inlay" much less how much it cost. I have to take some of the blame by just assuming I was having the same thing done as my husband. I thought a filling was a filling. That said, I also feel I was tricked. They are the professionals and it is their job to be upfront about procedures and the cost. Just the week before we both had cleanings and complete exams, plus my husband had the 2 fillings done. I believe at this visit I gave them $200.00 until we saw what insurance would do, which is very little. It turns out my insurance company refused to pay anything as they consider an "inlay" a cosmetic procedure!!! Dr. Hanson does do good work, but she is also very pushy about having more and more done, mainly crown work. The lady at the front desk is also very pushy and also not forth coming about the cost of this work. For 4 years Dr. Hanson has been wanting me to have 2 teeth crowned. These very same teeth 4 years later do not bother me at all, no pain or sensitivity, so I have declined all these recommendations. I'm tired of the heavy sales pitch I get every visit by Dr. Hanson and her staff. Luckily I had the money to pay for this surprise filling. What about someone who wouldn't have that kind of money? It's clear to me that this office does not care. It's a shame when you have to play "20 questions" with someone you should be able to trust, especially when you have been good, loyal patients for 4 years!!! We deserve better than that. If you choose to use Dr. Hanson I strongly recommend you get all the facts up front about the procedures she is going to do and the cost and have it put in writing. Also be prepared for heavy duty sales pitches that rival most car salesman. That's exactly what it feels like.
