ARam Jack West - PortlandI needed a foundation crack repaired and scheduled for Ram Jack, along with 2 others, for quotes to get that repair done. After receiving a quote from another business, to the tune of $53,000 for "other problems discovered", I had Ram Jack come out and did not tell them what the first place said. After they crawled under the house, took measurements, etc, they found nothing wrong with the foundation, advised me that I was not in need of their services, and provided me with the names of a few well-known and trustworthy local businesses that could repair the foundation crack. I cannot tell you what a relief that was and how impressed I am with the Ram Jack's honesty and integrity! They are definitely on my list of trustworthy people to deal with in the future, if / when needed!- Devon P.

AJohn's WaterproofingI researched 4 companies to fully encapsulate a crawlspace damaged by flooding and rats. I also did a lot of research into possibly doing it myself so i knew what to look for. John's was the most expensive, but they were all in the same general ballpark. I was put off by some of the competitors marking insulation as "extra" and not including in their initial estimate. Insulation is required! John's costs a bit more but you get more too: John's insulated the entire floor with wrapped foam pads, dug a drain trench around the entire perimeter, jacked up every concrete pier to slide vapor barrier underneath the posts, and used proper mechanical fasteners on all of the wall insulation boards. Every nook and cranny was sealed with spray foam. The workers were amazing. They did not cut any corners. They nipped and tucked every tight little spot and never complained or made excuses. They built a plastic clean-tunnel every day and took it down down every afternoon. They did not leave behind trash. My crawlspace is clean enough to literally eat off the floor now. I would recommend John's if you want your job done correctly.- Brian W.

APosten Painting IncI recently contracted with Posten Painting to prime and paint my unfinished basement. I did get 3 bids and Posten, yet they were not the cheapest bid, there were the most detailed and professional. The paint crew were all extremely nice and great to do business with. The quality of the work was fantastic. I would definitely hire Posten again for my next paint project.- Christopher R.

ABloom Pest Control and Home ServicesWe bought a 1964 home with a wet crawl space and the inspectors said it was normal for Oregon. We knew there was a sump pump but it was one of those things you want to shut the trap door on and ignore. Several years later I opened the door to peek and you could have floated a kayak down there. We had also noticed rats blatantly sitting around our home foundation with baby rats by their sides. Having had bad experiences with contractors in the past, we prepared ourselves for a horrible and very expensive service. We got 4 bids and Blooms was by far the lowest. The young men were friendly, up front about the problems and didn’t try to oversell. They simply wowed us! They had to crawl around in about a foot of wet mud after draining two separate crawl spaces, install blowers to dry the spaces out, and bring in multiple bags of heavy river rock, piping, and new sump pumps. They did it all without getting a speck of dirt anywhere! Each day they laid down plastic walkways and took them back up and cleaned everything. We couldn’t even tell if they had been there and felt safe leaving them a key to our home without us there. The office was very communicative daily and everything was on schedule as promised. I have never had a better experience and they solved a very anxiety-provoking problem. Rats and water are gone, two working dumps beautifully integrated into underground piping, and a bill about 40% less than the other bidders. Professional, efficient, clean and just really nice group of young men. This was by far the best experience we ever had with any home repair/contractors. I recommend them to anyone who needs crawl space work!- Devon W.

Recent Review:
FNeat and tidy with attention to details UNTIL they went CRAZY. Things got rocky when their roofing sub was a no show and we had three inches of rain on our unprotected structure that resulted in mold starting to grow. In the end, walls were not straight, they denied a final punch walk, argued about repairs for damages that they caused, never addressed damages they admitted to causing, threatened leans and legal action prior to completionof terms within their contract, didn't comply with their own poorly written contract, would show up unannounced to demand payments, and ranted in front of our children about their grievances. It was also odd that they required a large sum of money up front and were not at all professional near the end of the project. They also were not very knowledgeable about permitting and when to call for inspections. Several inspections were missed and I ended up managing that entire process. It was a very sad end to a project that could have gone so well. We are VERY glad that we only hired them to construct the foundation and structural framing. Beware. You may want to look elsewhere.

FI had contacted TerraFirma for a quote to repair a foundation crack, after seeing such positive reviews of their work on Angie's List. The rep came out to evaluate the repair then proceeded to tell me that not only was there the foundation crack, but that the main wall of my home was "just hanging", with no support underneath. That there was so much moisture / water under the house, that the roots from the maple trees along our fence line were running under my home because there was all the water they needed right there. After telling me that the back 1/3 of my home was nearly an inch below the level of the front of the house, they said that the fireplace was separating from the side of the house and needed shored up. When all was said & done, the proposal they sent to me to "keep crawlspace dry / mold-free, stabilize floors & foundation", for a grand total of over $52,000. Luckily, I had 3 other companies come out to give bids, with the highest being $2,000, which was right where I thought it would cost for one foundation crack. The home is 30 yrs old, but I had it verified that it is very sound, that there is NO problem with my fireplace / chimney and the main wall is most certainly not hanging w/o support underneath. I would most assuredly NEVER use TerraFirma's services ever and I am so very happy that I had two highly regarded companies still to choose from, that were able to provide proof that my home is as sound as I had thought it to be and to put my mind at ease.

AThe project went just great. The Sundog crew discovered wiring where it shouldn't be, and was able to quickly reconfigure upstairs lighting in two different locations and still the the project done on time. This is the third time (maybe fourth?) that we've asked Sundog Construction to help get a project completed, and every time it's been a success. Plus, we like the crew. They're cool, super competent, fast, and easy people to have inside your living space.

We are pest control professional’s that founded this company because we wanted to do business different than the rest. That is why we chose to call our company “New Leaf”. With an average of over 10 years experience in the industry, we have each seen enough to know that pest control can be done better in the Portland Metro area. We started with a simple question in mind, “if we were the customer, what would we want in a pest control company?”. What we came up with makes up the four basic elem...

ANew Leaf Crawl Space is awesome! This company literally saved my home. During a pest inspection by another company, we discovered standing ground water left long undetected had ruined nearly all the support posts in the crawl space. After overpaying a different company to pump the water out, I was lucky enough to be referred to New Leaf for the repairs. Cameron and his team replaced all the bad posts, dug a french drain and installed a sump pump with alarm. The team was prompt, courteous, clean, and the price was very reasonable. When the pest control company returned to finish their job, they commented on what an excellent job New Leaf had done with the repairs. (In future I will also use New Leaf for pest control, but I had already paid the first company.) It's been over a year since the repair, and the crawlspace has remained dry. And on one of the follow-up checks (included in the price), Cameron voluntarily cleaned out the dryer vent free of charge. New Leaf is a great company, and I highly recommend them!
