  • Torre was so kind and yet professional. His experience and knowledge were obvious as he explained everything to me. He tried every way he could to save me money and he worked quickly and efficiently and left everything in order. He was great and I would definitely call him again for any garage door problems or upgrade.

  • As before (2012), Sound Door did a first class job, from responding to our telephone message to completing the repair...all in one day! The basic service charge for a residential response was $99, and the repair part needed to fix the garage door opener was approx. $40. The technician, James, showed up on time, completed the repair, adjusted the spring tension on the garage door, and lubed the wheels, and had the opener working like brand new in about 30 minutes. He was friendly, informative, highly competent and efficient! We highly recommend Sound Door Services!

  • After a slight bit of confusion over our scheduling, John showed up. He listened to my concerns over a hang-up the door seemed to make at one point during the time was opening and said he'd see what he could do. The work was very fast. While I was in the house, I heard a lot of banging, so I knew some heavy work was being done. When it was all over, the door worked perfectly, and the hang-up had disappeared.

He pointed out to me that he had raised the height of the cable on the spring in order to avoid future problems that didn't yet exist. I consider that and the elimination of the hang-up above and beyond what I had paid him to do under the Angie's Deal.

    I was very impressed.

  • I called Garage Door Service Co. first and was told that the torsion spring parts would be ~ $80, and the labor would be ~ $60.  When I asked if he would honor the coupon in Angie's list, he stated he would just wave the  $89.99 Visit/Estimate fee. I was surprised by this fee and a bit taken back from the beginning of this transaction.

I went ahead and made the appointment with the person on the phone.  He stated that a crew would show up between 9AM and 12 Noon.  The crew called ahead in transit around 11:30AM and stated that they would show up closer noon.

After they showed up and looked at my garage spring they stated the torsion spring part was $300.  (one spring), and that 2 new 7 foot cables at $125, and labor at $90 for a total of ~ $515.  I told both men (one was an apprentice) that that's not what I was quoted on the phone and that it wouldn't work and that I wasn't going let them continue... and to please leave.  Then one of the men told me he would call his boss to get permission to charge less.  While standing next to him he called his boss and immediately came down to $325 before tax. ($355.85 with tax)... I regretfully agreed to allow the men to continue the job.

After the work was completed I paid the agreed amount of $356 with a check.  The billing was all completed over a smart phone and was rushed.  The print was too small for the agreement on the smart phone was hard to read due to text size.

Although they did a fair job installing the spring and cables, and were courteous, their parts cost were way over priced.

Clearly this service is a racket and this company showed me how they play their game.  So be aware of GDS as they used the classic telephone bait and switch.  I would never use this company again and recommend that you don't even call them for a quote.

    Key Learning's

Just because they are listed in Angie's list doesn't mean the service company has integrity .

Get the quote ahead of time on the phone for both part and labor...and have them send you a written estimate via email and ahead of the visit, with the persons name, who is giving you the quote, on the quote.

This company charges for on site "Visit/Estimates" at $89.99. so the coupon in Angie's List is basically worthless.

If the company cant do what I am suggesting above.. Call a different company until you get what you want and need to hold them to their quote.

I researched the parts cost for the spring and cables at multiple site with Google search afterword's and determined that GDC charged me 3X the spring cost and 15 X for the cables, and labor cost where on top of that.

My job as a customer is to let you know how this went and what I would do differently next time I need garage door service

I hope this helps educate you to what my experience with this company was.

  • I highly recommend both the company and installer t anyone who needs garage door services. I'm not much for writing long letters, but feel free to call me at any time to if you would like more details.

  • The service man is the owner of In and Out Doors.  He definitely knew what needed to be done and did it efficiently.  He had all the required tools, cleaned up the area well when finished, assisted me in programming my vehicles with the new garage door opener and answered all questions I had.

  • The overall project was done very well, with a minor exception (discussed below). Price seemed very fair. Project required removal of old fence and support structures, including concrete for posts in the ground, as well as constructing new gate compatible with the new fencing. Work was done in cedar, which matches material used on decking around the nearby side and the back of the house.

The work was done promptly and with no fanfare. The macro quality is quite good, but there was a minor detail that seemed unnecessary and which requires a small amount of my own work to finish--it was not worth having them come back, but seemed a bit odd considering the quality of the rest of the project. The end of one of the pieces at the gate had been sawed. While the cut looked square, there were large splinters around the edge of the end of the wood that could obviously spike somebody who accidentally rubbed against these splinters. Again, it is something I am able to quickly hit with a wood file or sander and can fix, but the same could have been said for them. I did point it out to the gentleman who took me out to the fence and gate when the work was done, but he didn't offer to finish it up, nor did I ask. I still think the job was done very well, overall; it's just that one thing... .

  • John showed up at the time he said he would.  He brought a new assistant with him who was on his third day on the job.  I could tell the young man didn't know much about this work, but he seemed like a fast learner.  John took a little extra time to teach his new assistant how to do things the right way.  Basically, they came in and removed all the old parts and replaced everything with brand new parts.  The only thing they didn't replace was the door itself and the tracks that the door rides on.
This was a project that I had considered doing myself.  After watching them do most of the work, (with John's experience, the help of his assistant, and the higher quality tools they used), I am glad I called and just had them do it.  If I had done it myself, it would have taken me three times as long to do it and if I had bought the new motor and a few of the necessary tools, I probably would not have saved myself much money, if any.
Do yourself a favor and give John a call for any of your garage door needs.

  • Our landscape architect recommended Northwest Construction and Landscape as a company she knew would carry out the plan she had developed. Though we lived outside the normal work radius of his company, Colby offered to give a bid, but warned us that he would have to charge us extra for travel time and fuel costs. He suggested that we find a local contractor and even offered to look over any other bids we received to tell us if they were reasonable.  We were impressed with not only his attitude, but his willingness to work with our plan, our schedule, and our preferences. We decided that the extra charges incurred in bringing him and his team from Bremerton to Steilacoom would be worth it. And they were. We could not be happier with not only the way the project turned out, but  also to have had the opportunity to work with Colby and his crew.
We were kept well-informed from start to finish. The crew arrived on time and worked hard  until the day's work was done. Colby supervised every aspect of the project, working alongside his men. He was able to make adjustments in the plan when needed.
When "surprises"  led to an unexpected surplus of plants, workers helped plant them in the back yard--without charge.
The crew was very helpful in moving some of our existing landscape features (pavers, rocks, roses, etc.) to areas where we could utilize them in the back yard.
We had gotten other bids before we talked to NW Construction and Landscape. Though we experienced a bit of sticker shock at what landscaping in general costs, Colby's prices were competitive. We are  glad that we spent the money and very glad that we used this company.

  • This work was done on our rental house in Steilacoom, Washington. We live out of state so it was important to feel confident with the company we hired. Steve Webster (Bay Concrete) couldn't have been a better provider to work with.

Communication was good, calls were always answered or returned in a timely manner.

He even recommended a tree service he had worked with for removing a tree that had damaged the old driveway. We used them, they did a great job as well.

It was a two day process. The first day they removed and disposed of the old drive, leveled the area (we were going from a single to a double driveway) and built the forms. The next day the crew returned and poured the new drive. The area was taped off the area to insure it was not driven on for several days. The crew returned the next week, removed the forms and cleaned up the area. The new double driveway is a beautiful addition to the property.

We have renters in the house and the crew was professional and very respectful of them.

We were very impressed and would highly recommend Bay Concrete to anyone!
