    SHEAR HEAVEN PET SALON
I called Shear Heaven to see if they had an opening to groom my dog on the same day, and was told to bring him right in. I dropped him off at aprox. 10:30 am. I was happy that they were able to take him for a same-day grooming. In that regard, they were accommodating. I understood that as a last minute fit-in, he would possibly wait a little while to be groomed. At about 3:30, I still hadn't heard anything back from them, so I called to see if he was done yet...5 hours later, and he hadn't been started!
My dog is very quiet. Easily forgotten, as he was on this particular day. Half an hour later, I got a call back from the groomer, stating that he was done. I went to pick him up, and the woman in the shop was sweeping, doing closing procedures for the salon. She was the only one there. She told me that both of the other groomers each had to leave unexpectedly, for whatever reason. She told me that he nipped at her, and didn't do very well while she was grooming him. I paid for his grooming, which really wasn't good at all. I got his leash on him and walked outside. He had to go to the bathroom and urinated more than I thought he could ever hold.
The problems: ***1) My dog is very quiet, and the groomers OBVIOUSLY forgot he was even there. If I hadn't called, there is no telling what would have happened.
***2) He was locked in the kennel (which is facing the front door and is horrible placement for dogs with separation anxiety) for 5 hours, without any opportunity to go out to relieve himself before being rushed through the grooming, and shoved back in the kennel until I went to pick him up, approximately 45 minutes later after I called. He was there 6+ hours.
***3) She did a horrible job grooming my dog. His hair was long, uncut in areas, uneven and patchy. His ears were not clean, nails weren't trimmed, and he had razor burns on his belly.
It's no wonder that he was nippy. First he was forgotten about for 5 hours (at least) until I called for a status, then the woman rushed him through.
If I would have gotten a call, explaining the situation and offering to reschedule, I would have understood and happily done so. Instead, my guy was traumatized and mistreated. If I had been asked to pick him up, I would have rescheduled and been happy to go back. I will never ever take him there again, and will advise other dog-owners to avoid this establishment.

    GRRS-N-PURRS GROOMING
The ladies are always wonderfully patient with the animals and very thorough in the grooming. I have tried to take my dog to other groomers, as this establishment is an hour drive for me to get to, one way, and have never found any groomer in the spokane area, who provides such wonderful service and care as these ladies at Grrs and Purrs.
My little guy (Llahso Apso/ Poodle mix) is always happy and calm when I pick him up, and always looks fantastic.
Thank you, Grrs and purrs, for being so awesome!!
The only down side: They need to open a shop in Spokane. Until then, I will continue to drive 2 hours round trip, as they are the best anywhere!..

    Paisley Pooch, The
My wife had made an appointment weeks in advance to bring our three pomeranians in to have them washed and have any matts combed out of their hair. My wife had used this shop one time prior in recent months and they had followed her specific instructions to not cut or shave any hair on our dogs.  This time my wife spoke with the lady receiving our dogs and was once again very specific about not wanting any of their hair cut or shaved except on their paws because we love the natural look of their long 2nd coat. When my wife went to pick them up at the agreed upon pickup time she looked at our dogs and saw that her instructions were ignored and that all 3 of our poms had been shaved and their hair cut to varying degrees on their rear legs and their entire rear quarter on their back and up their tails and on their bottoms. They now look ridiculous like male lions. They will never grow back their 2nd outer layer of hair as long as they live. My wife was very upset and called me to tell me and ask what she should do. I asked if they admitted that they made a mistake and if they were still going to charge her. My wife said that she told the lady that she didn't think it was right to have to pay for such a mistake. The lady said that she wanted the agreed upon amount of 40.00 dollars a dog plus 25.00 extra because of all the matts and she gave an excuse that her daughter had been the one to cut our dogs hair.  I told my wife to only pay the agreed upon amount and to pay with a credit card and we would dispute the entire amount later. The lady never apologized and even went so far as to say to my wife that she didn't know why my wife was so upset about this and that it is only hair. When the lady overheard my wife talking to me on the phone about a course of civil action, she then offered to reduce the charges to a lesser amount but only if my wife agreed to sign a piece of paper agreeing to never report or say anything negative about their business. My wife wouldn't agree to this and while I was on the phone with my wife as this was taking place I told my wife I was angry as h*** and that I would be right there.  The lady at the store overheard our conversation and told my wife that she was calling the police. I didn't want our dogs held for ransom I just wanted them to accept payment for the agreed upon amount only and to turn over our dogs so that my wife could leave. I told my wife that I was glad that the police were coming so that they could get our dogs for us. When I arrived I found my wife waiting in her car for me and she had our dogs in the car as well. She showed me the dogs and I was extremely sad and upset because they looked ridiculous and I knew I would never see them with their outer layer of fur again. The lady from the shop was by her car in the parking lot and started to walk over toward my wife and I but she didn't say a word. I was holding one of our dogs and as I looked over at the lady from the shop I told my wife that it looked like they tried to do a teddy bear cut on the back half of our dogs which is a cut where they shave off the outer layer of hair. The lady just looked at me but never said a word not even an apology. I asked my wife if they finally let her pay the agreed upon amount without signing their disclaimer and she said yes. I said well lets go home and as we pulled around the front of the store we saw that the police had just arrived so we drove back around to the rear and met with the police and my wife told them what had happened. The police told us that the business never wanted us to come back again and that if we did we would be trespassing. I said that we would never do business with them again and that we might pursue a civil action against them and then we left.

    Bark'R Boutique & The Cat's Meow
They're always very friendly. It's a clean area. My cats seems to take them well and he usually doesn't take strangers well. They restrain his feet and take him to have his hair dried, which he doesn't freak out for.

20 Sep 13 - Barkr Boutique and Dislocated Right Hip of my 13 year old Border Collie Mix. No names.
I got a call at 1430 informing me only that my dog was ready for pickup. Upon arriving the business owner explained that my dog had hurt himself after pulling back during a nail trim and fell to the grooming table while standing on the table. My dog was holding his right rear leg up and unable to put any weight on it. The business owner stated she had attempted to massage the soft tissue, however, my dog was still unable to put any weight on his right rear leg. My dog isnt able to talk. I stated Id now have to take my dog to the Vet. The business owner replied to send her the Vet bill. My dog walked in to Barkr Boutique under his own power several hours earlier. I had to carry my dog from Barkr Boutique to my vehicle because he was maimed. My dog has been taking Rimadyl over the last number of years for an arthritic hip. My dog otherwise had no medical condition involving his right rear leg or hip upon entering Bark r Boutique.
I was at my local Veterinarian within 10 minutes of picking my dog up. My Veterinarian concluded through examination and radiology that his right rear hip was dislocated. The right hip joint is clearly out of the socket. My dog was in extreme discomfort and completely unable to walk Friday. It was obvious to anyone at that time he presented on Friday to the Veterinarian that we had to do something. We scheduled my dog for surgery at the earliest opportunity on Monday, 23 Sep 13.
I noted some improvement Saturday in his overall mobility. Sunday however is when I detected that he had regained probably 70% functional mobility, despite his dislocated right hip. I videotaped him walking around the back yard on Sunday. I showed this videotape to my Veterinarian the following day, Monday, 23 Sep 13. I did not wish to proceed with the surgery because he had made such remarkable progress over the preceding two days. I wanted a second opinion on how best to proceed. We set up a surgical consult for Tuesday, 24 Sep 13 with a board certified Veterinary Surgical Specialist (VSS) in Spokane. The surgeon concluded, given my dogs age, it was best to leave him as is with his dislocated hip and not proceed with surgery
I built a ramp from my kitchen down two steps to the patio which my dog had difficulty negotiating.
I sent a demand, certified/return receipt, for reimbursement on 30 Sep 13 to Barkr Boutique in the amount of $417.66 for Veterinary bills. Barkr Boutique received it on 2 Oct 13. I received full payment on 3 Oct 13.
I have no doubt that my 70 pound dog was dropped onto the floor while being lifted onto or off of the grooming table and or he was allowed to fall off the grooming table onto the floor. There was no restraint system. I strongly suspect amateur and untrained groomers played a key role in this incident, probably so undisciplined that I question their suitability for fast food employment, let alone working with live animals.
The nature of this significant impact injury allows one to make common sense assumptions about how it occurred, far more, than if the injury was, for example, a mere muscle strain. It causes one to look hard at Barkr Boutiques explanation about what happened. Theres a cause and effect association to a dislocated hip and being dropped onto the floor, less so with falling onto the grooming table while standing on the table. On picking up my dog, there were about five employees at the receptionist desk, all within six feet distance from where I was, who were able to overhear the owners above explanation about what happened. No one at the time knew the injury was a dislocated hip.
Ive been unable to reconcile my dogs injuries with Barkr_Boutiques explanation about what occurred. The court of public opinion and the reasonable person test.
My dog has regained 85% of his former mobility which Im grateful for, however, he still has a dislocated right hip sustained while in the care of Bark_Boutique.

    Bark'R Boutique & The Cat's Meow
I received the referral/recommendation from my veterinarian's office to take my dog, Miko, to Margaret at Bark'R Boutique. The veterinary staff based this referral on the fact that my dog has medical issues that are exacerbated by anxiety, and Margaret, the owner of Bark'R Boutique, is a licensced veterinary tech who would know how to treat him. The veterinary staff is also aware that I'm a pretty picky pet owner, and they told me that all of their clients who had taken their dogs to Margaret had been quite pleased.
Miko's been to Margaret for grooming three times now. She always schedules him for the quietest part of the day and makes sure that he isn't there any longer than necessary to complete his grooming. She handles him gently, plus she does one of the most beautiful grooming jobs I've seen in Spokane--expert scissor work, and that's no small skill! Miko will never be happy about going to the beauty parlor, but at least with Margaret he doesn't come home and throw up or quit eating for a day or two, as he did with previous groomers. Instead, he comes home perfectly calm and content. I'm very careful about who I recommend for any kind of pet care, including grooming. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Margaret to any protective pet owner.

    Spokane Valley Animal Hospital
I have used Debbie at Pretty Paws for several years now after having my dogs come back from another "big box" groomer smelling bad after bathing on more than one occassion. The costs for the other "big box" grooming was getting outrageous and the service was deteriorating. I have rescue dogs and one was so badly abused she had to be taught human touch was a good thing. Debbie was patient with all my dogs and now the abused dog is fearless and enjoys going to the "spa". My dogs never come back with any kind of doggy odor and never have a residue on their coats. Their nails are always done beautifully and they actually stay clean longer than with other groomers. Debbie gets the undercoat shedding under control and that's a tall order with one dog being part husky. I have three dogs of different sizes and temperaments and Debbie handles them all. All dog owners I've recommended come back to me raving about how reasonable her rates are and how wonderful the service is.
