  • I've now had two really bad experiences at Jay Lee's.  The first was several months ago, when they tried to overcharge me for replacing my driver's sideview mirror.  The mirror had been cracked, but there was no damage to the housing or mechanism.  This was just reattaching the replacement mirror.  The technician over the phone quoted me about $30-$40 for the service.  When I got there, with the replacement part, the woman at the service desk told me it would be $100+ to reattach it.  I was shocked, and asked her again if she was sure and that the man on the phone said it was a small thing and had quoted me much less.  I also told her that there was nothing wrong with the housing or any other part - this was just putting the mirror back on.  She insisted that it  would be at least $100+.  I left and took my car to the Auburn Honda dealership, where they were able to replace the mirror for $30.  When I contacted Jay Lee's service manager about this, he asked me what employee it was who had told me it would cost so much.  I described her and he told me that that employee can get mixed up.  It's good to know that one mixed up employee could cost me so much extra money.
I would've chalked that up to one bad experience, but this past week they managed to top it in horrible service.  We own a 2012 Fit Sport.  I received a notice from Honda stating that there was a recall for an update to our car's VSA software.  I made an appointment with Jay Lee's for the software update and brought my car in before work.  When I arrived, the technician checked my vehicle, wrote down my VIN, and drove my car into the service center.  Then he returned to the desk and spent several minutes looking through their database.  After awhile he informed me that there was no such recall for my car.  I had brought in a
postcard that we had received from the Auburn Honda dealership, where we originally purchased the car, listing my car's info and a reminder about the VSA recall.  I showed this to the technician and he informed me that this was just the Auburn dealership trying to get me in so they could up sell me on additional services, not something I actually needed to do.  I asked if he was sure.  He called over another technician, who looked at the computer and confirmed that there were no recalls for me
car.  The original technician walked me out to my car and said the only thing I was really due for was a timing belt replacement and had I done that already.  My car is just a little over a year old and the  technician was trying to tell me my timing belt needed replacing, right after he had told me another dealership was just trying to sell me services I don't need by "claiming" there's a recall.  Wonderful.
Of course, there really is a recall.  http://www.honda.com/new… While there haven't been any reported crashes related to it, this
dealership still denied there was any service needed.  I have family that works in Honda dealerships, particularly in services, and they were horrified to hear about this.  It's a major liability for the dealership and terrible service.  I called Honda Corporate to inform them and they were very adamant in that the dealership was wrong.
After these two bad incidents, I won't be returning to Jay Lee's.  It's definitely a more convenient location for me, but not for the extra cost and bad service.  If this was another example of an employee being confused (two employees, really, since a second technician confirmed that there was no recall), then I have to wonder why I should ever trust their employees.  Do yourself a favor and go to the Auburn dealership.
