  • He had the supplies he needed in the service truck and was able to get the two issues we had been living with for so long repaired / resolved. (Plus it was one more oak-trimmed light bar from the 1980's eliminated from our home.) I learned a few things in the process as a bonus.
There was also a follow-up note concerning our home's electrical system which I'll write about when we have it addressed. Matt was quite thorough and comes across as knowledgeable.
He also provided estimates for some other electrical projects we're having done over the next eight or nine months. The office staff was professional and helpful.
Long story short: well done and carry on.

  • We hired Pinewood Landscaping service to clean out some neglected flower beds and apply bark to prepare the house for sale.  He completed the work well ahead of the originally scheduled time which was great.  We were out of town when the work was done and Noel was really good about texting us pictures of the work as it progressed.  When we checked on it one week after it was completed it looked like it was a job well done.  However, one month later there was grass growing up through the bark and upon further investigation, we discovered that the bark was not applied in the normal 3" thick manner that works as a weed/grass block but instead was just a thin layer for color.  In addition, just the fact that it was coming up led us to discover that the "grubbing out" that we agreed to had not been completed as well as it should have been.  While the appearance of the beds was good initially, we felt that for the price we paid we would have gotten a much better quality job.

  • I bought an Angie's List Big Deal for $39.  This was good for $150 worth of electrical services plus a whole house electrical inspection.  I did not get the whole house electrical inspection as 1) I didn't have time that day, and 2) sometimes ignorance is bliss!
The technician, Shadrin, showed up on time, in a clean uniform, and put booties on before he came in the house.  He introduced himself, and asked what the project was.  He carefully explained pricing before doing the work.  I wanted 2 outdoor lights replaced, gave him the new fixtures and bulbs, and he went to work.  When he was done, he had me inspect the work and test the lights.  Then he removed ALL the debris--boxes, plastic, old fixtures, etc.
The final bill was exactly as quoted.  They charge by the job, so the cost of replacing the 2 outdoor fixtures was $166.  They deducted $150 for the Big Deal, tax on the balance was $1, for a total of $17 (plus the cost of the Big Deal--$39).
We discussed some future projects, and later that day he sent me a quote via e-mail for the most pressing project.
I am very happy with their work and their professionalism, plus the friendliness and courtesy of Shadrin.  I was thanked for using their business (a nice touch).  I will definitely be using them in the future.

  • Unfortunately, the lights then buzzed with the dimmer---they did not before.  As You Wish came out two more times, trying different switches to try to get the buzzing to stop.  They were fabulous to work with during each visit, and so was the customer service person on the phone.  All 3 electricians were very courteous and professional.  As You Wish gets an A+ for customer service and for their guarantee of their work.  They tried every dimmer switch possible (including a trip to Lowe's) and none got rid of the buzzing, so they gave me the option of reinstalling the old standard switch.  I chose to learn to live with the buzz because having the dimming capability was more important.  Some day down the road I will replace my brand new IKEA fixtures (which seems to be the cause, although they were all labeled "dimmable")

I'd like to thank all of the folks at As You Wish Electric for being a stellar company who truly stands behind their work.  I will definitely be calling them again when I switch out my basement lighting.

  • NW Outdoor Lighting was punctual in the initial visit and enthusiastically discussed and displayed lighting suggestions.  This is done in the darkness with portable lights.  Plans and prices were made available (a la carte) and a final design was determined. Within a few weeks the lighting was available and installation was punctual and pursued with enthusiasm.  Even though I pared back my plan, NW Outdoor Lighting gave me all the attention one would expect for an larger job.  These people know they have a great product and predict I'll be so satisfied that I'll be back in touch.  They may be right.

  • They arrived at their scheduled time but it was later in the day.  I thought to just have them finish what they could today and come back tomorrow.  They finished the original reason for service and all my add-ons that afternoon!
I can now rest easy lighting and garage door is up-to-code and I only need to flip a switch to have light in my laundry area rather than plug in an extension cord.
I also feel safer with the security lights they installed for me.  It was great that they used the lights I had purchased rather than force me to buy another.
I'm definitely having them come back to do more projects.

  • Jason was very responsive to my inquiries and then came out and talked to me about what I wanted. He sent me a quote and then I asked him to come out again because I had been a bit rushed the first time and wanted to make certain he understood what I wanted. He explained what he was planning on doing based on what I had said the first time and he was right on. The work was done in a timely manner and to my complete satisfaction. I highly recommend them!

  • t with consultant who took my requirements, who then provided his ideas (which were excellent).  After accepting his estimate/work plan it was just a matter of days when the work was completed.  Everything was very professional from  sales through installation. Since I have had 1 problem with a light, the company was very prompt to respond.  It ended up that the problem had been caused by some work done during maintenance of my yard. Liked the lighting so much I later added additional. Also had them complete some landscape maintenance work.  Here again a very professional job was completed.

  • They are very professional and when I called about the circuit breaker they came out quickly as there was a employee from this service provider at my home the day before and something happened to it. They were very apologetic and resolved the issue. I will need them again and hire them again in the future.

  • Sometimes you just know when things are not going to turn out well from the start.  I tried calling Pinewood (Doug Noel) a few days after purchasing the coupon.  When I did reach him, he indicated that he did not have his scheduling book with him and we decided upon a time to call him back which he indicated should be a week later.  I called him back a week later and he seemed, over the phone, somewhat disorganized.  We scheduled a time for him to come out that Saturday which was June 16th between 9 and noon.   He never showed and never called.  I called that day around 12:30 and only reached his answering machine.  In fact, called back a couple days later, again only reaching his answering service.  He called a couple of times this week and we again were playing phone tag but this morning he called and I was able to connect with him and scheduled time for today.
When he arrived, he never once apologized for not showing up or calling me about the missed appointment.
Most times, when contractors or workers show up, they are pleasant and normal.  Upon greeting him, he was remote and distant and looked at me like I had a couple of heads.  (BTW:  I am normal looking, some even say attractive in my own right and don't generally elicit such weirdness.)
We started with the front area sprinkler system.  He identified two heads that were broken in one zone which I had already told him about.  He then found another issue which necessitated him making an adjustment to a valve.  However, the problem in that zone was that 2 sprinkler heads were not coming up.  He indicated it could be water pressure and he recommended I get up at 3am in the morning and run the system.  The system has always had enough pressure and was further evidenced by the other zones and the force of the water.  I was hoping he would provide better guidance than getting up in the middle of the night to run the system.  We moved to the back sprinkler system where we encountered a couple of heads that just needed to be unburdened from the grass, but again he first stated it was water pressure.  Again, sprinklers in other zones in the back had great pressure and they are all connected... He wanted to charge me $160.00 for replacing the 2 sprinkler heads and said he couldn't do it today and we would have to reschedule.  All I could think of was 'oh boy, not that again'. I am a working person and do not have time to go back and forth trying to connect with companies, especially not knowing if they will show or not.
We then moved to the back to look at the lighting system.  As it was daytime, he couldn't tell which of was working.  I put my hand in front of the light which gave him a clue.  He could not figure out how to remove the lamps.  I made a suggestion and it worked.  You would have thought he could have figured this out for himself.  After all, the reason I bring technicians in is to figure out the things I can't.  He was unable to successfully get the lamp back on, (which I did after he left). He kept telling me that my system was old and inexpensive and likely should be replace.
He basically provided no value to me and everything he told me, I either knew or told him during the inspection.   Basically, this service was a dud.  I found no value in it and it wasted my time.  I will not have him back to fix the sprinkler heads and will lightly either do it myself or find another service.
Not sure who the others are that made those glowing recommendations, but I certainly did not have the same experience.  Like the lights in my back yard, it was far from a glowing experience.
