My experience with Capstone Construction was one of the worst experiences that I have had with any service industry company - ever.

Capstone Construction was hired to construct an approximately 350 sf, $105,000 addition to my home; the addition was required to make my house more accessible for my wife who has several physical disabilities and suffers from the effects of stage 4 cancer and the treatments.

I was conned into what ended up being a very expensive scam; by the time Capstone Construction left the job there was an estimated $150,000 worth of defects in the new construction and damage to my existing home and property. I was lied to by Capstone Construction from the beginning, some of the lies were:

    1. They agreed that the construction would be completed in approximately 2 month. It took nearly 6 months.
    2. They agreed that the job supervisor would be on site every day to verify that the work was being constructed properly and per the construction documents. The job supervisor did not inspect the work; If the job supervisor did show up he only showed once or twice a week for about 15 minutes; the job supervisor was unable to read the construction documents or understand construction very well; if he was confronted with a construction error he would just come up with a line of B.S. and not address the issue.
    3. Capstone Construction only uses top quality employees and licensed subcontractors. 7 out of the 18 subcontractors were not licensed even though Capstone put into writing that all their subcontractors are licensed and bonded; a good portion of the employees and subcontractors could not read English or understand construction documents, most were just basically semiskilled handymen; literally every trade produced defective work a sampling of some of the defects are: the excavator damaged the underground plumbing even after I had all the utilities located; exposed rebar in the foundation; sloppy concrete finish work on both the interior and exterior slabs and walls; improper foundation work that is not constructed per the construction documents; framing that does not align from floor to floor; framing that was critical to be framed plumb and square that was not framed plumb and square at all; the roof was framed at the wrong roof slope; the wrong windows were installed and windows were installed at the wrong height; all of the hardwood, LVT flooring, and underlayment was installed improperly which voids any warrantees; all the door were damaged or installed improperly; improper plumbing installation that diminished any usable water flow to the exterior hose connection; light switches mounted about 12 to low; improper HVAC ducting; improper exterior siding and trim installation; incorrect roof flashing; improper roofing installation that allows the roof to leak substantially when it rains; leaking rain gutters; improper attic ventilation; poor quality interior trim work; unequal rod iron baluster spacing at the interior guardrail; damage to existing tile and carpet flooring throughout; incomplete painting on the interior and exterior; substantial amount of paint on the new vinyl window frames; broke three interior stairs; and damaged two skylights. None of these or any of the many other item were corrected before Capstone and their subcontractors left the job.
    4. It was agreed that Capstone Construction would completely seal off the existing house from the construction area during demolition and construction. Capstone Construction failed to seal of the existing house which resulted in the entire existing house and all of its contents being covered in an extremely thick layer of dust, this happen repeatedly. In addition there was not any winter protection provided to the exposed living spaces during the entire winter.
    5. It was understood by Capstone Construction that Capstone Construction was being hired to be the General Contractor because I did not have any time to devote to being my own contractor due to my heavy work load at my job as an Architect, and because of the time commitment required to assisting my wife. I ended up spending well over 100 hours of my time doing Capstone Constructions job attempting to make sure that the construction moved along and was somewhat conforming to the construction documents.
    6. I was conned into hiring Capstone Construction when they told me that they are fast and that they would give my job extra attention because of my wifes health and her urgency to have the accessibility improvements completed as soon as possible. Capstone Construction was extremely unresponsive to any sense of urgency when it came to meeting the agreed on completion schedule or to my wifes needs; in fact just the opposite, they ended up scamming us.

I held back a portion of the contract funds owed while I attempted several times to work with Capstone Construction on compensating me for all the defects and damages; we agreed to mediate a settlement on compensation in good faith, however Capstone Construction decided to blackmail me into settling into being compensated for pennies on the dollar for the defects and damages, or they would take me and my wife to court if I attempted to settle for more, they were fully aware that we did not have the time or the money to fight them in court.

So in conclusion, if you dont want to be scammed and end up with substantial defective construction like we did, I would recommend that you not even consider Capstone Construction.

    Salt Of The Earth
Great experience start to finish. This is a family-run business that is operated with pride and focused on customer satisfaction. After conducting research on my project (Price, Service, Customer Service, etc.), and discussing my needs with numerous service providers, Salt of the Earth was clearly the leader in this field. I highly recommend Salt of the Earth to anyone in need of the many services these folks provide.

    Lilac City Septic Service
Paul was on time, and has a great personality. He had to maneuver around a 42ft RV, thru a gate and park by a fence, he did a great job! Not only did he pump our septic but educated us on how it works. We are in the process of selling our house and he was able to come out in a timely fashion, so we would not have to worry about delaying closing. We will always call Lilac City Septic in the future!

    Above All Contracting
Steven and his guys are AMAZING! Intially he came out to quote the bathroom shower, while here noticed that we had taken section of wall because of a leaking pipe. He offered to fix that at very little cost! It would've cost me more just to have plumber come look at it. While working on tiling the shower I asked him if he could look at some doors that difficult to open and shut. Not only did that make time to look at that he fixed them at very low rate! The doors work with no trouble now. The shower turned out amazing! He even reattached some of the title baseboards that had previously taken off. We didnt ask him to, he just saw that were there and reattached them! This guy is amazing! It's not just that he did extra things that most people probably wouldn't have notice. He and his team are very polite and extremely professional. Not only eere they on time, but they were early. Everything you want in a business looking out for his customers. I would definitely hire him again. In fact I have some projects for the springs and he will be the person I call.

    Vermillion pump and drilling
It went well and Jared called the morning he came and he had all the supplies he needed. He'd had another customer without water so we waited a couple days but weren't in a hurry with our job anyway. The price was higher than our other well co. so I gave it a C for Fair but it wasn't that much higher to stop us using them in future.  I do wish Vermillion had called the day before they scheduled to come for confirmation and a "heads up" since we have a locked gate.

    Five Star Plumbing
The company was very prompt in returning calls, and I was fortunate in that they had a delay in another job. Jim came to the house to review the work, which cost a $70 house call. he returned the next day, was late only bc he was searching for the required parts for the T and the valve. Work completed in 6 hours, and the Stevens County inspector commented on what a thorough, A+ job was done. Jim came back and completed the work the next week and the line works great. thought a bit pricey compared to prior jobs, but the work was good.

    Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup
I requested licensed plumber Derrick Cunningham as he has been to my house on a job before. I find his work very good and like his work ethic and professionalism. He told me 2 yrs ago that a new WH would be a lot more efficient. I waited til now to have one installed. It is 80 gal so quite heavy but he was able to handle it. It is American made so I am thrilled with that. I like dealing with Roto Rooter as I can depend on their reasonable response time and the work always gets done.

    Culligan of Spokane, WA

We have tried to contact Culligan several times this year(2014). Communication with company is unsatisfactory. The office does not return calls. The few times that a person answers the phone the personnel do not practice basic phone courtesy. In short, they are rude. Despite having a service contract with the company, we are not able to set a date and time range(am or pm) for company to deliver salt and or perform basic service which they are contracted to do. The technical personnel are knowledgeable and efficient when you see them. The unit is working okay but what to do when we have a problem with it?

    Dana Fleming Plumbing
Dana Fleming has become our go-to plumber, and has visited our home many times since 2005.  The most recent repair involved an exterior faucet that would not stop leaking.  Dana had to cut through drywall in a closet in order to access the pipe and faucet, and this made me a little nervous.  He cut a very small area of drywall out of the closet, and replaced it so that I almost could not tell that the wall had been cut.  He replaced the faucet with the exact same style, and no more leak.  He worked very quickly, and the price was less than I had planned.
I have been impressed that in all the times he has done plumbing work for us he has always had all of the supplies with him, so there is never any time without water while he runs to get supplies.  His work is very through and we will continue to use him for all of our plumbing needs.
