FI went into the ER of my local hospital and was diagnosed with a spleen bleed. I was admitted as an in-patient and assigned Dr Earl. Dr Earl has a very charismatic personality but in my opinion doesn't know s***. After being discharged I was told that he wanted to see me in his office 3 days later. However when I got home I received a call from his office moving the appt up to the next day. I was worried that some test came back after I left with bad results. (I found out about a month later that he moved my appt because he wanted the day off.
When I went in the next day my appt was supposed to be at 1pm (right when they re-opened after lunch). My husband and I arrived about 10 min early and had to wait outside the door until they opened. When we went in I checked in with his staff and noticed that Dr Earl and a pharmaceutical rep were sitting on the other side of the waiting room that isn't used very often and there was a table of food by them. I over heard them talking about the LDS church, not about the drugs so I thought they were about to wrap it up. After a half hour they were still talking. I asked the receptionist if it was going to be very long and she said she didn't know. I asked her if I was supposed to have stopped downstairs for another xray before seeing him and again she didn't know, but for that she said she would interrupt him and ask. I saw her walk over to him and excuse herself and she asked about my xray and Dr Earl said loudly "Oh, is she here already?" And he told her that he did want me to go get the xray. We hurried downstairs only to find out the only xray tech on duty had just left 5 minutes prior for her lunch. At that point I told my husband to just take me home, I was tired and I'd had it. Also he was scheduled to be at work in less than an hour. After arguing back and forth he agreed but instead he drove to my mom's house and had my mom take me back. I got the xray and we went back upstairs.
When we were called back to see the Doctor he took us to his office, not an exam room. He pulled up the xray and was looking at it and decided to call the radiologist for feedback. We sat there and listened to him say that I had just got out of the hospital a few days ago and i interrupted and said it was yesterday. He chuckled and corrected it to the radiologist. Then he said that I had previous weight loss surgery and had lost about 200 lbs and again I interrupted him and said it was 100 lbs. He just chuckled. Then he said I was having regular bowel movements and again I interrupted him and said it had been 7 days since I'd had one. That alarmed him a bit. I looked at my mom and we both were wondering where the heck he was getting all that info he was telling the radiologist because it sure wasn't from my chart...
After getting off the phone he assured me that the xray looked fine and that if I didn't have a bowel movement in the next couple days I needed to notify him.
I saw him about a week later and had blood tests done and he released me back to work. My first day back I could hardly do anything, I was just plain exhausted. I called his office and got an appt for that afternoon. When he saw me he asked me to walk to the end of the hall and back and told me that it would just take some time to get my strength up. When that didn't happen I got a copy of the lab results and noticed immediately that I was badly anemic. I called his office again and asked if he had read the lab results that I was looking at and they put me on hold. His nurse came on the line and asked me to come back in that afternoon. It was then (about 2 weeks after being discharged from the hospital) that he agreed that I was anemic and I needed to take an iron supplement. It took a long time to get my iron level back up.
I swore I would never see him again after that and I wouldn't recommend him to a dying stranger.- Pam F. -
AAfter check in the nurse called us within 30 seconds of sitting down, Dr. Smith arrived about 2min after the nurse left; hardly any waiting time at all. Dr. Smith was very friendly and so was his staff, he really tries to get to know his patience and makes you feel very comfortable. We were there for about 1 hour while Dr. Smith tried to learn all that went on with our previous doctor. He really does seem to care about his patience.

AHe is an excellent doctor. He really takes his time listening to you. He asks good questions and finds out problems that you really didn't even know existed and helps. Everyone is friendly. They call back when they say they're going to.- Dale W.

ADr. Smith is always great with the whole family and is the only doctor I have found that will listen to me as a parent on what is and is not normal for my children. I had been batteling for 17 years trying to get doctors to understand my son was having a heart problem with no luck. Dr. Smith listened, put him on a monitor and got him the heart surgery he desperately needed.- Debbie L.
