    Pro:
Randy is punctual, and the window coverings are delivered within the time frame he promises.   Bart, the installer is a knowledgeable, efficient, quiet, pleasant man to have working in the house.

    Con:
Do not take anything for granted.  Ask for specific details about every window covering.  In my lifetime, the purpose of a valance is to cover the upper workings of a window.  When our window coverings were installed, the bottom edge of the valances sat above the window framing.  Bart could not adjust these as they were an integral part of the curtain.  Randy set up an appointment for the Hunter Douglas representative to come to the house and look at the installation.  The representative agreed to shorten one of the curtains so that it could be moved down.  The other two were installed over wallpaper and we decided that holes in the wallpaper would look worse than the valance that was too high.  I see this every day of my life and can?t get it out of my head that it is wrong.  Randy told me I was picky.  Don?t know whether he was kidding or not!  I have taken it that way, but it still rankles.  Asking friends who are interior decorators, they say they have never heard of a valance that did not cover the upper window frame, unless it was a purposeful special application.

My other complaint is a lack of communication on Randy?s part.
Three of the blinds were to have a special mechanism so that a chain was not required to operate them.  Randy said they cost a bit more, but he felt that it would be worth it.  My husband and I agreed.  When Bart installed the blinds, they had chains attached.  I called Randy and he said that Hunter Douglas quit making a blind of that size without a chain because of problems with the mechanism.  I asked Randy how much less we owed him due to the change and Randy said that the blinds were on special and the chain-less blind cost the same as with a chain, so there will be no reduction in price.  Randy did not call ahead to tell me that the blind I ordered was not available and ask me what I wanted to do.

We ordered window coverings for four more windows, this time making certain that the valances would be properly positioned.   Randy gave a bid.  I paid a substantial deposit.  Bart installed the blinds and then asked for final payment. The amount he asked for was more than my bid sheet showed that I owed.  Bart said that he wasn?t sure why it was more, but pointed to the paper that Randy had given him.  The paper had some figures and a different amount due.  We had house guests at the time and it was not a substantial difference, so I paid it just to have the whole thing over with.  My complaint is that Randy did not call to let me know that the figures had changed or explain why.

    LOWE'S
We contacted the design department at Lowe's and worked out a design and price with the lady there. She set up an appointment with the installer to come and measure the exact dimensions. The installer came when scheduled and was very courteous and professional. The blinds were special ordered from the manufacturer and came within the time specified directly to our house. We called Lowe's installation department and they scheduled the installer to come back and install the blinds. Again he arrived on time and installed them in a very professional manner. He made sure we knew how to operate them and answered any questions we had.

    HOME DEPOT
THE HOME DEPOT CUSTOM MADE OUR LIVING ROOM WINDOW BLINDS BECAUSE WE WANTED BLINDS THAT WOULD FIT INSIDE THE WINDOW FRAME INSTEAD OF OUTSIDE. THE SALES PERSON HELPED US PICK OUT S SHAPED BLINDS THAT WHEN CLOSED LOOK LIKE DRAPES. THE SALES PERSON WAS KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE PRODUCTS AND VERY HELPFUL. IT TOOK ABOUT 3 WEEKS FOR THEM TO HAVE THEM CUSTOME MADE FOR OUR MEASUREMENTS AND THEN THEY SHIPPED THEM TO OUR HOUSE.
