Garage Building reviews in Lake Forest Park

    Custom Builders Inc
Steve and team worked with me over 6 months to demo carport, design, permit, and build my beautiful 992 sq. st. detached garage. Steve was very excellent with his communication and worked with us through design revisions and change orders to get exactly what we wanted. I am confident in the quality and attention to detail that he and his team preformed. We even added on additional work to our home including gutter work, siding replacement, whole home repainted, chimney work and a new entry way of poured concrete.

I choose NW Sheds based on the Angie's List reviews.      As usual, it paid off and I now own a great looking shed.
The process went smoothly from my initial call to Jim to the construction of shed in my backyard by Chad.   The build quality is excellent.  I couldn't be happier.
I give NW Sheds my highest recommendation.

They were very professional and punctual.  They we as quiet as can be, did not disturb my neighbors, finished the job on time without any problems or delays.  I appreciated them modifying what they normally do to help me cut down on the cost (I did my own electrical work, siding, etc.)

    BH Contracting Services Inc
A General Contractor is only as good as the subs and people he hires. Brad hired several subs who are not licensed. The work was substandard with serious and repeated problems that have to be repaired by someone other than BH Contracting. In addition, several of his subs damaged our property. The garage slab was poured twice by two different subcontractors Brad hired. The second attempt at the garage slab was done poorly and had to be repaired. When Brad of BH Contracting told us the name of the 3rd subcontractor he intended to use to do the repairs, we became suspicious about his business practices and did our own research. That subcontractor had L&I violations. BH Contracting either doesn't care or doesn't check. The concrete on the porch had similar problems and had to be jackhammered out and done a second time. The second concrete pour for the porch produced problems that involve structural integrity. The siding was done twice because of poor workmanship and still produced problems. Two attempts at the plumbing still produced leaks. The carpentry was done using the wrong type of materials, wood cut the wrong size, and incorrect procedures for building a structure exposed to weather.
When we realized there were many serious problems, we hired an attorney and fired BH Contracting. We've had several Contractors look at BH Contracting's work. All have pointed out the same problems, some of which we suspected and several additional problems we weren't aware of that are far more serious. All of the Contractors have been surprised by the substandard workmanship from concrete to plumbing to carpentry. The only thing done right was by the licensed electrician Brad hired.
I'm surprised Angie's List accepts advertisement money from BH Contracting. this Contractor. Our experience has shown this is not a General Contractor with integrity or skills. On the rare times Brad came to the job site, it was to collect money. He required almost 40% down to schedule the job and then didn't start it for six weeks. We discovered that is not standard with reputable Contractors. Buyer beware.

    Pro Built Garages
He started our garage addition ,  he took numerous short cuts, 'forgot' to do several items, made mistakes that he insisted were better ways to do things than shown in the plans.  He took a large payment from us , a total of 90% of contracted price and did 50% of the work before abandoning the garage with no doors, no weather proofing , half of the siding, subfloor of new deck exposed to the weather in September days before the rain started.  He contracted with us in June of 2010 as TImberland Garages LLC (his wife was listed as owner)  opened this business days later.   Look up L&I for Timberland Garages.  and research his name on L&I before hiring him.

    Northwest Sheds
Great! Very prompt response to my inquiries. Arrived when they said they would, courteous and efficient. While the number of shed designs is more limited than what you find at a "big box" store, the price and quality is superior. If you are looking for a basic outbuilding on your property, I certainly recommend them.

    Axis Custom Builders
Mr Tabert came out and we had a good discussion of numerous options, both about the deck and even gardening. A very pleasant and conversational individual and he spent plenty of time explaining different possibilities.
There was a bit of mis-communication, however, because it felt like he was expecting me to know what I wanted (and which he would gladly speak to) and I was expecting him to offer some design possibilities of what would best fit the area. I'll admit I didn't provide a lot of guidance since I hadn't really thought about it and this was a first exploration of the concept. I was looking to his experience to tell me what was possible and what would best fit the house.
Once I finally got across that I had no experience or fixed ideas, we did settle into a reasonable upgrade scenario,
A short time later I got a PDF of the drawing and it was not what I had expected (again, that expectations thing). I had assumed it would be a formal perspective drawing that would give me a feel of what the proposed deck would look like in place. What I got was a pencil and ruler not-to-scale drawing of the deck only (not in relation to the house and setting) with only cursory detail. While it did give me a rough feel for the idea, it was nowhere near enough for me to consider approving a project.
In Mr Tabert's favor, I've looked at the photos of his past projects on his website. The work looks very nice and has a very high quality feel. If I was closer to actually doing the remodel and knew more what I wanted then I'd ask him back in for a bid on specifics. I'd would, however, be more explicit about what I expected in the bid as goes to detail needed so that I could feel confident of what I was approving, should it come to that.

    Excavators Northwest
I had an issue with powder-post beetles and one pest-control company said they wouldn't treat it and that the entire corner structural section of the house support should be replaced.  I got one (very high) estimate and decided to join Angie's List and look here.  The contractor I found, Jeff Reddan (reviewed separately), said he wanted to call in an expert, since my home is built on stilts on a steep slope.  The expert he called-in was Frank Shields of Excavators Northwest.

Frank spent a good amount of time looking at the area and concluded, "this is exactly the kind of work I do, but I don't think you need me.  I think you should call another pest-control company and have it treated, then check again in another year."

Any contractor (or any other professional) who tells me when I DON'T need work done is someone I know can be trusted.  I would not hesitate to call on Frank when any difficult project is being planned.

    Pacific Garages Inc
We had Pacific Garages give us a bid to build a garage within our budget. Ed Olson was great in giving us options to keep our cost down. We eventually came up with a solution that would work within our budget. We decided the company would build the foundation and garage shell with us supplying the windows and doors and doing some of the foundation prep. We would complete the job doing the siding and interior work to stay within the budget. Ed Olson was very organized and communicated all steps of the project. They stayed on the schedule they committed to doing which was fantastic. The team of workers were all very professional and hard working. In addition, they did a great job matching my molding style that was on the house. It was a pleasure having a crew do what they say they are going to do.
