  • This did not go well.  My project was modest, the addition of a porch and conversion of two bedrooms into a master with attached bath.  No bearing walls to amend, no square footage to add.
I was a little concerned at some of our initial conversations because when I asked questions about who would be responsible for different tasks and what things needed to be done, he was short-tempered and when I asked whether someone of his skill level was actually required to fetch the approved plans from the city or whether I could do that errand myself and save him a trip from Seattle to Kent (and myself a few dollars), he told me the question was insulting.  He seemed to think that my trying to understand the permitting process equaled a lack of faith in him.  I should have stopped everything right there, but no one is perfect and he seemed reputable.  Silly me.
We had several conversations and meetings and it seemed as if the plans were in line with what I wanted, but apparently there was inadequate detail in the porch design so the city had to do some guessing, and a portion of the design they approved was exactly what I did NOT want, so I incurred additional engineers fees. Not happy.  Three contractors have stated that the porch plans are incomplete without further info from Alan which = more $$.
Although I gave Alan my budget, the plans he drew cannot be completed within that budget.  I am not an architect but I assumed (possibly my fault) that the person drawing the plans has a general idea of costs and can advise whether the plans requested are reasonable for the budget.  In order to amend the plans to match the budget I will now need pay (someone else) to simplify them and run them through the permitting process again.  Sooooo not happy.
When the builder and I sat down to review the plans, Alan had drawn an unnecessary "niche" in one wall inside a closet that even he agreed wasn't needed, then sent me an email requesting I pay "up to two hours design work" for his assistant to correct it.  Uh, no I will not pay you to correct something even you agree is an error.
So at this point I am quite frustrated and more sorry than I can say that I spent thousands of dollars for plans that cannot be fully used.  There are lots of quality architects out there, take your time, do your homework.

  • We were foolish enough to pay half up front and the remainder long before the completion. The whole process was very protracted, extending several months. We made the costly mistake of signing up for something we didn't understand and didn't need. In the end we received a nice one page drawing which in our opinion was not worth $1500.

  • We met Rich and Gloria at our Church. We had made a decision to build our dream home at Meridian Valley Country Club.
Our lot shape made it almost impossible to fit the size home with pool on the lot. Rich is a genius with CAD design. He made it work with sure perseverance.
Gloria is not only one of the nicest person I have ever met but extremely gifted in interior design. Working with her is a pure joy. So nice to work with business people with character, honesty and that put the Customer first.
We did however not do the build as my wife changed her mind and wanted to stay on the farm. We did however get thru the total exterior design, interior design and all the choices that comes with it. The follow thru was great. Rich got us our building permit and approval of the Homeowners Association.
We still own the lot. If we ever decide to build on it Rich and Gloria will be our first choice

  • We are very pleased with the quality of Holly's work, as well as her fun personality.  She is a cat lover just like us, so we connected very well on the project and she understood our needs immediately and completely.  She surpassed my expectations for a solid design, and we feel her price for the service was quite reasonable.  She's also offered to make tweaks and consult with our builder as needed if he has questions or wants to make small changes.  She even drew little cats in the plans to show how they would use the space. :)
We are considering asking Holly to help us with other remodeling projects in the future, including our kitchen, master bathroom, and our front stairs.

  • incOverall, our experience with Rgbjr Design was outstanding.
    My
wife and I had numerous previous experiences with designers that would
either never return calls or told us what we needed.  Whereas Robert,
was always responsive and listened.  He provided us examples of his work
and listened to our ideas and thoughts.  We suspected that the "Big
Deal" would not cover all of the design work that we envisioned and
Robert did not pressure us into expanding the scope of  work at any
    time.
In the end, we did expand the scope of the work because
there was a mutual agreement on the topic.  My wife and I felt confident
in this decision and were very confident/comfortable with Robert.  When
Robert returned the plans, we were thrilled.  His plans exceeded our
expectations because he had identified a design approach that we never
    considered.
Job Well Done! - thanks to Rgbjr Design

  • They were paid from the first appointment and I paid them everything. I got my permit according to our contract over the one year. That made me really sad. They promised me a lot the whole year. They told me that the whole process takes a few months. Then I got my permit after one year. I also got a lot of issues from the city of Kent because they didn't draw professionally. I got 3 or 4 letters from the inspectors and the engineers telling me all that was wrong. There were 30 points that were wrong. I called the guy Peter and asked him to try and fix it and he just said that it was the usual thing and they would work on it. I lost my pre-approval from the bank for the loan. I lost my construction company because the contractor said that he couldn't wait for so long. He said that he was in the construction business for 30 years and nobody took a whole year or more to create a design. I lost everything. I am stuck with this project now. I cannot get my loan from that bank because the bank crashed. I cannot complete the work because I don't have the money for it. Their price was average. I talked to other designers and their price seemed competitive. The prices are really high for these jobs. The quality of service was very bad as they made a lot of mistakes. If I didn't call, they never called me back. I will never call the company again and I will never recommend them to anybody.

  • We saw his gazebos from I-5 in Chehalis and call to discuss building a custom unit for our back patio. Later saw his add for a display model on Craig's list. Went to Chehalis to determine is the unit would fit in our space. It would not fit but Matt said he would design and build one that would fit in our space. He worked with us to design a gazebo we liked. He and his wife Julie came to our house the make the final measurements for the unit. They came and built the unit March 13 and 14. It fits perfectly and is beautiful.

  • Geat design! We have an A-frame home on a lake which had a very ugly entry and an open carport attached to the house. We had a difficult time trying to figure out how to add a garage and a new entry that would work with the unusual design of the house. Royal Residential worked with us to design the addition at a much lower cost than we initially anticipated and with better results than we thought possible. Our contractor was vey impressed with the design and intends to use Roal Residential in the future. Very good overall experience!

  • Rick provides residential design and drafting services. He was fabulous. He made himself available to meet with us around our busy schedule and met with us in the convenience of our home. He was prompt, friendly, easy to work with, and very responsive to our concerns, questions, and ideas. We were prepared to wait for several months for permit to be approved, but Rick's plans were so thorough we received our permit through King County in a record two weeks. We shopped around for a designer, and were pleasantly surprised to find that the person (Rick) who seemed to know the most was also the most reasonably priced.
