Scheduling: - Downpayment has been paid and I was on the hook. They exploited that fully. - The service was rescheduled 3 times. The first time just nobody showed up and I had to track them down to reschedule. Work: The end result was unsatisfactory - The new slab is not uniform - pebble density is different in different areas - There are trowel marks left - Cement leaked onto adjacent slabs and ruined their appearance. Follow up: I never saw them again after full payment - I tried for 2 months to bringing someone from the company over to take a look. - I was lied to consistently with the "Maybe next week" line. Eventually they just stopped responding. - I was in no way annoying, 1-2 text message per week asking for availability and consideration.

Rich and his crew did excellent work which included creating a aged face to the concrete that allowed it to better match up to the existing 50 year old patio. Rich listened to what our needs by installing pipe under the border of the new patio so that we could continue to easily route water to our planting beds. As promised the crew came back out the day after the pour was completed to inspect their work and clean up around the perimeter of the pour. Nice job that we'll appreciate for decades to come:-)

Rich is the owner of All Concrete. He gave me the estimate and was on sight throughout the project. The estimate was the lowest of the 4 companies I contacted and who looked at the job. Importantly, Rich understood a utility easement within that part of Kenmore and prevented us from making a costly mistake. He handled the review with Kenmore, too. In my estimation, it was a big job as a root had fractured the driveway and had to be removed. At our request, he installed a channel drain.

Rich knew we were preparing to put the house on the market. We had never worked with concrete or a project like this and he explained all facets of it. The finished driveway is beautiful. We have been getting compliments on it. The crew kept the work site neat and cleaned up every day before they left. I know the neighbors appreciated the street being tidy.

Rich was great to work with and especially helpful to us because we did not know anything about driveways. he has our highest recommendation.

All Concrete Surface did a great job on our patio extension.  They came over and provided a free, written estimate of the work and then scheduled the job within a week.  They showed up on-time and completed the work as requested.  I would recommend them for any concrete work.

TV and his crew are simply outstanding! I called for a free estimate, and he came out the very same day. He gave us a very reasonable price, but what impressed us the most was the attention to detail they gave the job, they truly cared about the quality of their workmanship.

I feel like my driveway is almost too perfect to park on! If you want the best crew in Seattle, you've found them. Plus, they are super friendly and quick! I would recommend them to anyone, they are the BEST.

    HD Services, LLC
Robert came out the same day we had a problem, expertly assessed the situation and handled it immediately. He was so friendly and professional--I was very comfortable with him in my home and confident that our problem was resolved. He advised my on future repairs needed but did not try to persuade me to take care of them right then. He also communicated clearly about when his arrival time would be and kept me posted while he was on his way. Highly recommended--I look forward to working with HD Services again.

I asked All Concrete Surfaces to pour some additional concrete areas to tie in with my existing exposed aggregate driveway to provide more space for parking cars and my boat. All my requirements were met, or suitable alternatives provided where I was asking for something that was not recommended for technical reasons.
Apart from a small delay due to the weather, the team were prompt. Everyone was polite, worked hard, and provided me with a great end product. I would definitely recommend them.

    K & D Enterprise
K and D Enterprises replaced our our old driveway with a beautiful new one.  Kirk used dyed cement and an artful design with creative touches.  It is absolutely beautiful.  We had drainage issues which he solved.  Kirk is thorough, hard working, meticulous and very professional. He also worked with our landscaper and remodeler to coordinate schedules.

    NW Coatings & Concrete
All I can say is wow.  This has been a long process trying to go from a deck to a concrete patio and unfortunately the patio still needs to be fixed.

    Selection process:
    • Positive review on Angie's List even though it was for a deck instead of concrete work.
    • Positive write-up in the Everett Herald.
    • Bid from Scott Claussen for a 620 sq ft brushed concrete patio with a stoop from the dining room slider, two pads with two steps down that partially wrapped around the upper pad seemed reasonable at $3422 considering several other bids were in the same ballpark.
    Concrete Pour:
    • Scott C. and his helper started working on excavating and framing out the patio the week of July 11.
    • Due to the gradation of the land, Scott chose to chop off 84 sq ft. which was fine.  The basic layout of the patio was what I wanted.
    • On Friday, July 15, they poured the patio with the help of several other people, including the owner Scot Board.
      • Turns out they ordered concrete from Smokey Point rather than here in Kenmore which meant the concrete sat in the truck for at least an hour during rush out traffic.
      • The pump truck was blocked for roughly an hour meaning the concrete sat even longer making the job even harder for them.
      • All of the crew was gone except for Scott C. and his helper who were still working the concrete when I returned home at 6:30pm after having to go out for two hours.
      • As a result, they didn't  remove the frames and clean the edges of the concrete that day.
    • Scott C. and his helper returned on the July 16 to removing the forms and try to fix the issues that were obviously apparent, including a gap between the upper pad and the stoop, not to mention the wrap around steps and the six "bird baths" as they called them including one that was 4 ft in length, 2.5 ft wide  1/2 inch deep right in front of the stoop.
    • As a result of the smaller patio, I asked what the new cost would be since it was less material and work.  It was then that Scott C. realized he had not added in the excavation cost to the bid.  I of course was unwilling to pay for it since it wasn't included in the bid and the cost of the patio was reduced to $3025.
First attempt to fix the issues:
    • Roughly two and half weeks later Scott C and his helper returned to prep the patio to be covered with Maricote coating after the "bird baths" were filled with mortar.
    • Since I had never heard about Maricote, I was skeptical that it would work since my bro-in-law who works in commercial construction had never heard of it either.  At my request, my brother-in-law spoke with the concrete finishers at his work, who stated that it should come out good.
    • Even so, because of my reservations, Scott C. had come with a business card of a sales rep at Industrial Coatings and & Sealants in Mukilteo who could address my concerns about the product.  During my conversation with him, I discovered that it was too early to apply Maricote since the concrete hadn't cured enough.  Scott C. spoke with Scot B., the owner and stated this would be fine since they wouldn't seal it for another two weeks. (This fact is important when you get to the end of this report.)
    • Since the rep stated it was too early to apply the Maricote, i had them halt the work and Scott and his helper started cleaning up all the concrete from the pour after I pointed it out to them.  There was:
      • Concrete on either side of my driveway from the pump truck.
      • Concrete slurry from the hoses dumped in the back of my back yard.
      • Concrete in the grass, both front and back.
      • Screws from the framing scattered through out the back yard, which I'm still finding in my yard.
    Application of Maricote:
    • August 20th - First application
      • Scott C. and his family, wife and two sons, arrived at my house and began prepping the concrete.  Namely grinding down the rough edges that he and his crew left after the original concrete pour.  I even gave Scot a face mask since he was coughing from the concrete dusk kicked up from the grinding since he had come unprepared.
      • They then left for a while to go get breakfast.  However, later in the day after I pointed out the workmanship issues, they were complaining that it was too sunny and the coating was drying too fast.  Well, if that's the case, why did they leave for two hours in the morning.
      • Later in the day, Scot B. arrived and they began applying the Maricote.  When they stated that they were done I went back and was dumbfounded and frustrated. The workmanship was sloppy.
        • Portions of the concrete weren't even covered.
        • There were squeegee marks on the stairs.
        • They had failed to grind off the patio door stop of the rough edges before applying the Maricote.
        • There was a build up of Maricote on the edge of the top pad in front of the steps.
        • The texture was uneven and not to mention the Maricote was not smoothed out in places and was running down the side of the patio.
      • When I pointed out the issues to Scot B. he first claimed that he couldn't see them which honestly made me mad.  When I pressured him by asking him "Really?" and "Would you find this acceptable at your home?" he began to say that I would never be happy.  Finally after walking away to cool down, I returned to find that they were packing up their tools and leaving.  At that point Scot B. threatened me with a lien against my house for the final $528 plus tax.
      • After talking more with them, I agreed to pay final money that day instead of waiting until they had finished the work, since at that point I wasn't sure he wasn't going to say that I refused to pay and that they would return the next day to apply a second coat.
    • August 21th - Second application
      • They arrived earlier than the previous day and got to work.
      • They addressed the issues that I had brought up including the need to grind down the extra Maricote and the original concrete.
      • End result it looked a lot better than the previous day, but it wasn't what I expected based on the sample of Maricote that they had showed me.
      • They were packed up and Scot B. had actually left with out talking to me.
      • Scott C. was in his truck with his sons and his wife was at the door.
      • I had to call Scot B. to find out how long I needed to stay off of it and when it should be sealed.  All along I was expecting their company to seal it based on the previous conversations that I had with them early on in the project, but at this point all I wanted was them to be gone.  Scot stated that no one should be on it for two days and that it should be sealed after two weeks.
End result - I arrived home after a vacation expecting to seal the patio and be done with the project, but unfortunately that isn't the case.
    • Three of the "bird baths" remain after having been "fixed" by the company.
    • The patio is now stained yellow from the acid from fallen leaves mixing with rain water.
      • I contacted the rep who sells Maricote and he stated point blank that it should be sealed after 24 hours of being applied.  Not the two weeks that Scot B. told Scott C. over the phone when they initially came to work on it or the two weeks that he told me over the phone.  I can't help but wonder if they are truly that incompetent or did they say that knowing it would cause me issues down the road, since they were so hostile through the end of  process since they were losing money on this job.
    • I have left voice messages for Scot B. twice since I have returned and emailed once, yet I have not received any reply.
    • Unless Northwest Coatings & Concrete steps up to the plate and fixes the issues, I will be out I'm guessing another $1000 for another company to come out fill the bird baths again with mortal and apply another coat of Maricote and seal it properly as the manufacturer suggests.
    Lack of Professionalism:
    • Lack of communication.
      • Telling me they would be out at one time and showing up later.
      • Saying that they would call but don't.
      • Failing to respond to voice mail or email.
    • As a customer, I don't need to know what it is costing a company to correct the issues it caused.  I'm paying for a job to be done at the amount bid or less considering the size of the project was reduced by the company, but more importantly I'm paying for the project be done right.
      • Apparently, Scott C. had failed to include the cost of the excavation in the bid, which is not my concern.  I hired them for the amount they bid.  Other companies came in at nearly the same amount.  While they didn't explicitly ask for more money, it was implied but I didn't offer it since I would have probably gone with a different company had I received a correct quote from NW Coatings & Concrete.
      • Scott C's wife stated numerous time on August 20th that they were losing money on the job.   Again it's not my concern, if they had done the job right in the first place there wouldn't be the extra cost of the Maricote.
    • As a customer, I didn't appreciate being threatened by Scott B. with having a lien put against my house.  At no time did I ever say I was not going to pay them the remaining $528 plus tax for the work.  I just wanted them to correct the issues.
    • Claiming that they don't see the problems with the workmanship when it is in plain site is infuriating.

    ****UPDATE****
With spring coming, I'm looking to get this fixed.  Turns out I seriously underestimated the repairs.  It will cost a lot more than $1000 because every company will not recoat the patio.  They want to start fresh.
