AJoe's Yard ServiceWe embarked on a large landscaping project in our small yard that included both front and backyards. We employed Joe’s Lawn Service. The major concern was replacing the old retaining wall in the back that was reaching the end of its life. It was built using rail road ties and many of those were rotting. We wanted a block wall to replace it. Other aspects of the project included installing steps in both front and back yards using block and paving stones. In the front we wanted a landing pad for folks arriving in cars. Guests should be able to step out curbside onto a safe spot and ascend to the front door on safe steps – thus avoiding the perilous climb up a steep driveway - often filled with cars – that is factually lethal in winter. Texans were born to shovel a lot of stuff, but not snow. We were new at a landscaping project of this scale and apprehensive in uncertainty, particularly cost and expectation of final result. The final result exceeded expectation and was within the original estimate and budget, with one exception. We changed our mind and expanded one element. It was worth the added expense. We are satisfied with the result. I was rather amazed by the professionalism and expertise employed. The men formed a high performing team of skilled planners and craftsmen. They were always on time. There were no delays. There was no standing around waiting to be told what to do – they knew what to do. When Joe agreed to do something, he did it. For those of us that believe in honest, hard work, it was a true pleasure to watch – as I did daily. The work was heavy, hot, and dusty. They carried in wheelbarrows every bit of block, gravel, sand, and paving stone into a backyard that had no access for a vehicle. And they carried out every old timber. Although my language skills are minimal, they made it easier with their patient, polite demeanors. I guess you could call them gentlemen. I particularly noted their respect for each other. AJoe's Yard ServiceJoe has cleaned up my yard beautifully. He suggested adding low voltage LCD lighting, which came out beautifully. He repairs sprinklers, fertilizes the lawn and pulls all weeds for one price per week. Blowing out sprinkler systems is included. He also built a beautiful raised bed for me with a block wall. It is on a slight hill, so considerable digging was involved. Joe and his family do a great job for me. This is the first year I've used a yard service. I recommend his company highly. Joe also offers a discount on replacement plants for any that fail, even if they were not planted by him. He assisted with putting new latches on my gates so my dogs don't escape. AJoe's Yard ServiceJoe came out and gave me an estimate to move and update my irrigation valves. While he was there he noticed that I had a very large pine tree next to my house that was almost completely dead and leaning toward my house. He suggested I allow him to remove the tree. I had actually been thinking that the tree needed removed and had been told by others that I should have it removed but I had been putting it off because I thought it would cost a small fortune. I told Joe that I didn't think I could afford it right now but after some negotiation we came to a price that was affordable. Joe and his guys came out when they said they would and went to work digging out my valve box and cutting them loose. Joe knew that I needed the valves moved so that I could get some sewage pipe work done and after he removed the valves he offered to let the plumbers come out and do their work before finishing the irrigation so that they could get it done easier. I appreciated that because the plumbers were able to get the work done much quicker which saved me a ton of money. He even had his guys dig down to the sewage pipe so I didn't have to pay the plumbers to do it or do it myself. After the plumbers did their work, Joe and his crew came back out and finished moving and replacing my valves. They also removed the large tree by my house all in about 7.5 hours. They nicely stacked the wood up for me and cleaned up the mess as best possible. Joe even came out a week later in the evening to help me troubleshoot my sprinkler system at no charge. Joe and his crew are very good and they put your satisfaction first at very reasonable prices. I would definitely recommend his company for your lawn and tree care needs!- David M.

AJoe's Yard ServiceEight months ago I purchased the duplex I was living in. It was a great buy and was built in 2005 but unfortunately the builder/owner had not completed the landscaping in the back of the property. The landscaping in the front of the property also needed to be redone. The property is .3 acres with a 3000 sq foot duplex. I want to start off by saying that finding an affordable landscaper in the Ellensburg or Yakima area is a huge challenge. I received bids from four different landscapers. Some wanted to $15,000 just to do install a sprinkler system and put in grass. Joe was the the only person to come in with a reasonable bid to do the work. He started by replacing the bark in the two front islands and a dead tree. He then put paver stones in to border the driveways in the front. While prepping the ground for the sprinkler and grass, we discussed four large trees in the back. They were flowering trees and made a huge mess in the spring and the fall when the pedals fell. I had him bring in a tree service and remove those trees. Joe brought in approximately 4 yards of fill dirt to level the ground. The sprinkler system he installed has exceeded expectation. He installed a 6 station Hunter sprinkler system which has worked extremely well. He also set up a station for the front of the house with mini sprayers to water the trees and shrubs in the front of the house. The grass he laid has taken some time to work the weeds out of but he has come back to weed and feed and its starting to look very good. I gave Joe a very extended time frame to complete the project since he is located in Yakima and my property is in Ellensburg. Just make sure to specify the timeline you need the work done in so he can build a schedule and can coordinate his crew. All in all...I am very satisfied with the work and would strongly recommend hiring Joe and his team.- Andrew V.

AJoe's Yard ServiceThe association of value, veracity, experience and superior customer reviews combine to make Joe?s Yard Service one of the best in Yakima. Previous customer reviews influenced my decision to hire Joe and his staff for the tasks described below. Task 1 ? Large tree trimming and overgrowth removal Joe?s crew removed or cut back some very large limbs and overgrowth from two large trees (approximately 60-75 feet high), a difficult, dangerous task that required climbing each large tree. He also trimmed 10-20 feet from some overgrown arborvitae along a 100+ foot section along my back fence that had invaded power and telephone lines. His staff: experienced, quick and efficient. His crew of 5 had to identify changing dangerous conditions due to the height, size of the limbs removed and the presence electrical supply and telephone wires. One climbed each tree, another controlled the large limb removal as they were cut, hoisted and lowered to the ground for removal by his ground crew. His ground crew hand carried all the small branches out of the backyard, cleaned the surface below and shaped or blended the existing ornamental bushes. They cut and neatly stacked the large limbs for firewood. Bid Estimate - $2800.00 including tax and 3 days to complete, equitable, or less, when compared to other bids. Customer Satisfaction ? A+. They completed the job in 2.5 days with instructions to his staff to complete the job to the customer?s satisfaction. Task 2 ? Landscape mature plantings of rhododendrons Joe brought in one of his staff experienced in construction of retaining walls and landscaping. He suggested large block to assist drainage and prevent erosion which was more expensive but less labor intensive. Each block and the crushed gravel had to be hand carried from the front to the back of my home. His staff removed the old bender board and laid out the design for the existing space. They laid the base course of block on crushed gravel; blocks were cut to fit and the base leveled . They added successive courses and back filled each with crushed gravel careful to preserve the existing underground sprinkler system. Bid Estimate - $2800.00 including tax and 1.5 days to complete. Actual Cost - $3265 ? The job required that I purchase an additional $465.00 in material, a necessary cost due to material loss when blocks were cut , additional gravel, placement of additional courses of block and steps that added to the overall symmetry of the space. Customer Satisfaction ? A+. They completed the task in a week because they had to obtain additional material and meet previous commitments. They provided the procurement and placement of additional material without additional charges for labor.- Robert D.

AGreen Baron IncThey installed the system on our property about 18 or so years ago. We get a call every year in the fall to schedule the system to be blown out. We don't have to remember, they do that for us. We have never had frozen pipes in our system with them doing the pre-winter maintenance. If there is every a problem and we need a service call there is always someone in the office to take a call. We have never had to leave a call back number and wait. We have had the same service tech for the last twelve years. Always on time, very professional. and knows what he is doing. BWe had their mowing service for 2 years. It went well until about 2-3 months ago. I think Russell has a new partner because the name changed to R&D Construction and Landscaping. I inquired about a couple of missed mowings, which can happen at end of season if mowing is not needed. Didn't return calls last 2-3 months. I don't have a final bill so if I am billed for these I may update this review. They did good work and I am happy to pay for mowings actually done. Russell used to come with his workers until recently, which is when the problems occured. I don't know why the sudden change in service, but they quit when I asked about the missed mowings, 3 in the past 2 months. The work was good, but communication was bad in the end.
