AKattau ConstructionIn retrospect I am quite happy that I took the path I did as there were several unexpected developments and/or requirements that I had asked for that were "unexecutable" during the course of construction that we were able to fix on the fly. I was very happy with Scott's attention to detail during the course of construction and his quality of work far surpassed most other residential contractors I have dealt with. One of the first challenges was trying to get a permit to do the work. It turned out that the property I purchased had a barn on it that had never had a permit issued for its construction. (Not disclosed in the seller disclosure). As a result the issuance of a permit was delayed a bit until we reached an agreement with the county that we would retroactively get a permit for the structure and do any required fixes that a structural engineer determined were necessary. I ended up having to get Scott to do some additional concrete work on the barn foundations to make the county happy and hired a separate contractor to do some of the wood structural work to keep Scott focused on getting the house completed on time. I am a retired engineer with some experience in doing construction projects. Scott would be the first to tell you that I am a somewhat uncompromising taskmaster and I really appreciated the fact that Scott would push back based on his extensive experience in what works in home construction. We made several adjustments to the layout of the home as we went along and we had a good give and take on what I was adding vs items that were abandoned for a credit and the overall cost impact. The only issue I had with our project centered on critical path planning. For those not familiar with large projects this is the planning that determines what work that needs to be done today (eg: material ordering) to ensure that the work we are going to be doing in the next several weeks goes smoothly. This improved as we got through the project and at the end we ended up getting it done in the agreed time frame (excluding the delay in getting the permit at the outset of the project). I would certainly recommend Scott to anyone looking for a quality contractor to do either a renovation or construction project.- Paul L.

AClawson Construction LLCClawson Construction did a fantastic job! Dave took an amazing amount of time with us, and covered every detail of our project. He brought to our attention, many details that we would not have thought about in our planning process. Our 2nd story deck was to be built over the top of the lower patio and we wanted the patio to be water proof. We chose Arideck by Wahoo Decks; an aluminum surface with a channeling system for water (amazing to date!). A newer decking system, Dave and his team took his time to study the Arideck system and its construction and communicated with the Wahoo Deck company. The construction team did a fabulous job! They even seemed to enjoy constructing the deck! Our deck is beautiful!- Terry and Sherry W.

AD & L CONSTRUCTIONDan and Lana run a great business. They have wonderful employees and were here every morning at the same time ready to go. They stayed busy always using good time management. They were trustworthy and always thoughtful. They did what they said they would do and in most cases even more. The quality is second to none. Although I was dreading having our home remodeled, Dan made the experience relatively easy to live with and kept us informed on "next steps". They were here for most of three months and never faultered on professionalism or quality.- roger w.

AFirst Choice ConstructionNever questioned anything we wanted. Matter in fact made suggestions that made the job less expensive and much better. He was much more of a perfectionist than I was! He is there to please at a reasonable price.- Don P.

AKNUDSVIG CONSTRUCTION INCDoug made it simple; after he submitted his bid and we hired him, he gave us an approximate start date, 2 months hence. A few weeks later he called to say he could start a couple of weeks earlier (1-1/2 months) since the jobs he had were going along faster than anticipated. He led us through the entire building process, advising on the permit process, when to call for electrical inspection, installation, etc. Ran into a plumbing problem (buried line we didn't know about) and contacted a plumber for us. Basically a three-man crew, they started each day very early, about 7 am. Working continuously with few breaks, they put in a full day's work (8 hrs.) Cleaned up after themselves each day. Great work ethics, very professional and friendly. No shoddy material or workmanship. Small things, but impressive. All the nails were uniform in placement and configuration; no gaps and no odd pieces sticking out. Everything was almost picture perfect. We got what we sketched out. I highly recommend this company to anyone in the Longview to Chehalis area. Doug and company were recommended to us by a friend and coworker who raved about a very large garage he had built a couple of years earlier. Now I know why and no good deed goes unheeded :=)- Helen S.

AGreat. Noah was very responsive to our needs and did not spend all of his time doing I am the contractor and you are the mere homeowner and probably are stupid. He understood what I wanted and why I wanted something the way I did. Had a great crew that got our job done when they said they would and did a fantastic clean up.

DNot sure what happened to this company as I've used them in the past with reasonable results, but try or not, they succeeded in convincing me that they neither value their customers nor their product. With my second nearly $4k shed, the doors were installed in a "V" shape and there was a large gap allowing water and insects in. Lost a day of work for the day they were going to fix it and no-showed without bothering to let me know. Call after call, promise after promise and I gave up. I guess I really bought the wholesome local family business thing and didn't even consider another company. They have lost my respect and business.

FDo not order from this company if you live in the country. I Ordered a carport to cover my rv and after 9 weeks we were excited to have it delivered and installed. When that day came the gentleman delivering the carport said he was unable to install it because he didnt want to bring the trailer up a hill in snow ( it was a slight incline), He refused to even try. He told me he would come back the next day with chains and he never did. We even offered to bring the trailer up with our truck and he refused to install it because it was to cold for him.

FIt has taken me two years to write this because I just didn’t know what to think of the whole ordeal. I’m finally ready to share so no one makes the same mistake that I did. I own a roughly 920 sq ft home in Covington with a one car garage. I ran across this company at Enumclaw Wine Walk in 2015 or so and expressed interest n siding or roofing as both were really needed on my home. They called for over a year before I finally agreed to have them out to look at the siding. When the salesman arrived, he mentioned the roof needed repair more than the siding. I agreed as he wasn’t wrong. He pressed and pressed me to go in my house, sit down and look at options for a roof. He was a bit smarmy and kind of made me nervous, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to have him give me an estimate. Once inside, he continued to press and made me feel incredibly uncomfortable. I’m a single female and had him over at a time where my neighbors weren’t home. I felt a bit trapped in my own house. This man saw an opportunity to make a sale and he pressed until it happened. I became emotional and called a couple of friends for advice. When I gave the quote amount to one he advised me not to sign this contract. It was way too much. My dad; however, was very concerned that my house stay in good order so he advised me to just sign and assured me he would help with the financial impact. I’m a teacher in the local community and while the cost of a roof isn’t exactly easy for anyone, it was especially impactful on my salary at he time. The salesman quoted me roughly $13,900 for the roof on my tiny house. As Tim passed, I was so uncomfortable that I finally just signed the contract to get him out of my house. I knew I had three days to back out and planned to do so, but my roof ended up leaking and I needed someone to call for help. Rainier it was. I will give them credit for being responsive in that way. This salesperson knew I was nervous about who would be over to do the work and when. He promised he would watch out for me the whole way. Imagine my surprise when I got a call from my neighbor while I was at work telling me the roofers has ascended, in all sorts of unmarked, personal vehicles. One thing I had asked explicitly is if they’d be showing up on schedule in company vehicles, I was assured they would. Nope. They didn’t even give notice when they came. The company did feel bad enough about this scheduling snafu that they sent a small Visa gift card for the trouble. Now, two years later, the quality of the roof is fine, some soft spots still, but it certainly is no better than any of my neighbors’ roofs. It should have cost no more than $8,000 at the very most. I was set up with their financing at Salal Credit Union on a 10 year payoff and have made absolutely no progress towards chipping away at the principal. I finally moved the loan to BECU and will pay it off within a couple years. How did I get myself into this? I don’t know. I should have gotten multiple offers. I should have been stronger with the salesman. I should have stood up for myself. I didn’t. And the sad thing is the company saw that as an opportunity to capitalize on a sale. Where are the ethics? How many people do they do this to? How do they look at themselves in the mirror? (Probably the mirror of a sports car my teacher salary is paying for.) Ya, they put a decent roof on, but almost every other aspect of what they told me was a lie to close the deal....at nearly double the price I should have paid. Please, if you’re still reading, use my experience as a cautionary tale. Be prepared for what you are doing, have support, if you are young or a first time owner...don’t do this alone. And definitely do not use this company without having done a ton of research first!!!

FVery responsive when it came to scheduling an appointment, measuring, etc. Rep was very helpful and told me that was exactly the kind of job they specialized in. He told me he'd have a bid by early the following week, and that they could start in 3 weeks. He never contacted me with a bid, so I emailed to follow up at the end of the week; there was no response. I called a week later to inquire and was told that "they would not be submitting a bid" because thy had two big jobs come in. I understand that these are the realities of construction in portland right now, but at least have the courtesy to let me know.
