    Teak Drywall LLC
The job took longer than expected--almost two full weeks, but the quality of the workmanship was superb. They did more repair of the old walls than I expected, and the smoothness of the finished work was almost astonishingly good. There are two slightly negative points to mention: Originally, Teak said to give him about two weeks notice. But that was at the end if the summer. I was not able to get to the point where I was ready to have him begin work until the beginning of November--I was doing all the electrical work myself and satisfying the Seattle electrical inspector's Code related demands took much more time than I had planned. When I contacted Teak to let him know the place was ready for him to begin work I assumed I would have 2 weeks to finish things up. However, he wanted to start sooner, and we agreed to start about a week later, on a Friday, with the materials being delivered on two days earlier. However, the next day Teak informed me that the work would begin a day earlier, on Thursday. That meant I had to scramble madly to finish things up before they began, and indeed even worked on Thursday while the drywall folks hung drywall where I wasn't working. But I found it unsettling to have had a full day's prep work taken away--because, as I understand it, they did not have another job going at the time, and Teak did not want his workers to remain idle. The other point to mention was the result of a misunderstanding. The contract mentioned that no drywall would be installed in the tub/shower surround area. However I assumed this referred to the existing downstairs bathroom (which had already been recently drywalled in preparation for the installation of a tub surround), while Teak intended this to refer to the new upstairs bathroom. Thus I was surprised to find that the upstairs tub area, which was to have a freestanding, clawfoot tub, not a tub surround, had been left without drywall. In retrospect, I should have been more careful in reviewing the terms of the contract, to be sure that my assumption was correct. But also Teak could have been more explicit in identifying that it was the upstairs bathroom that was not getting drywall in the tub surround area. And the rush of getting things ready for the drywall work to begin did not create a favorable climate for double checking details. Aside from those two items, I an happy to repeat that the work done was nothing short of superb, and while the cost was high, the quality of the work was commensurately high.

    Banner Creations
What I loved the most about Bob and his associate, Banner, is their can-do attitude. Basically, the job was a makeover of our very small condo before we moved in. I'd called three different contractors (chosen from the top four on Angie's List) and their bids were too high and also too restrictive, each one pointing out why this or that wouldn't work or was just too troublesome for them to take on. And when I cut down the job specs, they then said the job was too small for them to do. That's when I called Bob, who brought out Banner to also take a look. Both were up-beat, positive, professional, and very highly skilled in multiple trades. Bob did the woodworking (building in shelves to match existing cabinetry; putting in crown molding along the ceiling; re-doing the kitchen cabinets as open shelves); Banner did everything else (making-over the bathroom, including tiling the floor in a random pattern; raising the header on a closet; repairing sheetrock; hanging curtain rods; removing furniture and appliances; and on and on). Besides his exceptional craftsmanship, Banner also has considerable design chops. He and I had such a good relationship that, at different critical junctures, we often talked through how and why something should be done a certain way, not just for functionality but also for aesthetics. Banner is also something of a McGyver: his can-do attitude is matched by his incredible resourcefulness. He came up with solutions for problems that came up that were not only ingenious but also cost-effective and attractive. And when I got the final bill? It matched the original estimate. Over the years, I've been fortunate to have worked with many a great contractor and tradesman. But Bob and Banner top that list now. Thank you, guys!

    Jose and Sons Drywall
They completed the job on schedule and as described.  Communication was great. They were easy to get ahold of when necessary. They gave me estimated for the different levels of quality for drywall finishes. They came, they saw, they drywalled and I liked the results.

    Clean Image Services, Inc.
It went great. They took out all the damaged stuff (tile, drywall, etc., etc), dried it out, got us certified mold free, put it all back, and left us a clean house to boot! AND, like I said, they dealt with the insurance company.

    JVG Woodwork & Construction
He failed to obtain building permits on the original portion of the remodel which ultimately caused the county to condemn the site because of the "dangerous nature of the construction". The basement flooded due to grading slope toward the house. There was no connected venting causing water to pour into the house through a fake vent and flow throw bathroom fans. There were no headers above the doors and windows. No permitted stairway access into the basement. He was sited by L&I for hazardous wiring (hanging down & exposed) in the electrical room. It was determined by L&I that this was done by Mr. Gordon and not the electriction, so he was fined several thousand dollars. Wall heaters were not connected or were missing dials; The siding split on nearly every board; the country required the insulation be removed and replaced from the ceilings. The walls and ceiling had to be reinforced because they were not safely connected. The county required the house be gutted, re-engineered and rebuilt to code by another contractor. I sued Mr. Gordon and prevailed in court. On the day of the judge's decision, Mr. Gordon served me with his bankruptcy papers. There are two other well documented cases where Mr. Gordon had constructed shoddy, unsafe homes. In those two cases, the owners had no money to pursue him in court but he did name them in his bankruptcy filings. According to the state, Mr. Gordon lost his contractor's license and his insurance/bond was cancelled. (I prevailed in court & collected his bond). I am very surprised he is still in business. How can this be possible? I'm calling the contractor license board - again!!
