AJaz Construction and RemodelingI am very pleased with the quality of the construction. The addition is stoutly and solidly built built. Miguel was generally pleasant and easy to work with. There were two minor issues: 1) The roofing metal arrived in a color different that what I had specified (white when I had specified gray). Miguel was willing to take it back and exchange it, but that would have delayed the project and I wanted to get on with it so I said to go ahead with the white. 2) We signed the contract on July 20, with an agreed finish date of August 21. Miguel's work was not finished until mid-October. Miguel and his crew also installed the concrete floor and opted to use rebar rather than the cheaper mixed in fiber and they poured it thicker than code required (6" rather than 4"), which I appreciated, and they made a nice finish on the concrete. At the juncture of the new structure roofing metal with the old, Miguel prepared a very nice looking joint, but my son who had worked in roofing for about 10 years said that he would have preferred a different type of joint which would be less likely to eventually develop a leak, so I asked Miguel to change that joint. He willingly made the change and still made it look nice. For all of the headers in the new structure, over the doors and window, and at the juncture of the new structure with the old, Miguel used a box header rather than the simpler, cheaper style of simply nailing two 2" x 6" boards together and I think they will be stronger over the long term as well.- David C.

AGreat! Travis was very honest in all ways. He worked with me to design the hobbit inspired home I always dreamed of. He is flexible and so easy to work with. He has the bonus of his wife Heidi who is great with designing the interior. We ran into unexpected rock removal that put us way over budget. He was flexible and figured out where we could trim costs to work within the budget. It was wonderful that he knew someone who could mill up logs from the trees I had to remove to build. Although Washington state laws, made it nearly impossible to use these for structure, I was able to use them for all the trim on the outside. We will use for shelving inside. Project will be done by the end of March.

AThe project was essentially a remodel of a circa 1950's beach cabin with a small addition. We chose Baker and Son on the recommendation of our neighbor who had used them to build a detached garage. Our plans were relatively simple at first: build the addition, expand the kitchen, build a new bathroom and create a new entry. As work was underway, it became clear through the advice of Baker and Son that our kitchen was too big and out of scale for the cabin. We ended up eliminating some walls and opening up the cabin in such a way that created one large room but still a separate kitchen, dining and living. It was a huge improvement to the original design. In addition to the interior work, Baker and Son completely overhauled the exterior which included new windows and siding. New structural headers were required because they didn't exist. Also, since the cabin is post and pier construction, they leveled and strengthen the existing structure. Work included new skirting as well. Their attention to detail was very impressive. They are masters at creative problem solving, patient, responsive and positive. They have a very strong sense of design. We were never pressured into quick decisions. The contract arrangement for our project was essentially time and material because formulating a bid on an old cabin remodel would involve too many unknowns. We agreed to a fair hourly rate and all material and subcontracted work we paid directly with no additional overhead or fee. This saved us money. Since we lived out of town, Baker and Son were so well connected with various vendors and subcontractors, it simplified making arrangements. Now that our project is complete, we are so excited about the end result! We would highly recommend using Baker and Son Construction for any project.
