FA1 RoofingThis was a horrible experience for me. Having a leaking roof during the start of winter is very stressful and they made it so much worse. I was given such a run around on start dates that I would not have had a roof until March. I gave them a deposit in September. I say I would not have had a roof until March but I got a good, solid, snug metal roof for a decent price from MetalMan Roofing in December.- Vickey R.

AB Smart ConstructionI had several projects including awnings, carport, and rain gutters. They were prompt, gave me a great estimate, completed the work in great time. AExcel General Contractor, LLCPete Lange and his crew were truly amazing. After Pete and I had an initial walkthrough to discuss what was needed, Pete got the game plan in place, and everything thereafter couldn't have gone smoother. Pete's communication -- as well as his crew -- was clear and understandable. All of his crew were extremely professional, yet exhibited a friendly personality with great senses of humor. They arrived when they were supposed to be here, and they worked very hard once they arrived. The entire process was flawless from start to finish. Considering how swamped Pete's schedule was, the fact he fit us into it and completed the work earlier than expected, was icing on the cake. If you're considering contacting a general contractor, you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you don't at least talk to Pete. He's a perfect reflection of his crew, and they're outstanding! David Murphy and this team used creative problem solving, asked questions and help determine the best course of action. They also tracked time carefully, and when there might be a few minutes left on a basic service call, would return to do additional work at no charge. Invoices included detailed time accounting. ARay was very professional and punctual. Even though my project seemed small to start with, it had a few difficulties to work with. He coordinated well with the Structural Engineer to get things right and absorbed a lot of work to get the drawings done on time. He is very prompt on returning phone calls or e-mail messages and answered all my questions. He was pretty detailed in his drawings as well.

AThe project was essentially a remodel of a circa 1950's beach cabin with a small addition. We chose Baker and Son on the recommendation of our neighbor who had used them to build a detached garage. Our plans were relatively simple at first: build the addition, expand the kitchen, build a new bathroom and create a new entry. As work was underway, it became clear through the advice of Baker and Son that our kitchen was too big and out of scale for the cabin. We ended up eliminating some walls and opening up the cabin in such a way that created one large room but still a separate kitchen, dining and living. It was a huge improvement to the original design. In addition to the interior work, Baker and Son completely overhauled the exterior which included new windows and siding. New structural headers were required because they didn't exist. Also, since the cabin is post and pier construction, they leveled and strengthen the existing structure. Work included new skirting as well. Their attention to detail was very impressive. They are masters at creative problem solving, patient, responsive and positive. They have a very strong sense of design. We were never pressured into quick decisions. The contract arrangement for our project was essentially time and material because formulating a bid on an old cabin remodel would involve too many unknowns. We agreed to a fair hourly rate and all material and subcontracted work we paid directly with no additional overhead or fee. This saved us money. Since we lived out of town, Baker and Son were so well connected with various vendors and subcontractors, it simplified making arrangements. Now that our project is complete, we are so excited about the end result! We would highly recommend using Baker and Son Construction for any project.
