    Design Doctors Construction LLC
I am trying to find a way to articulate how happy we are to have worked with Design Doctors (DD). We were in the process of repatriating back to the US, moving to a new town, and this was our first major remodel. The following are highlights, but at the highest level I would just say that if you want to have confidence that you will land on excellence in outcomes, go with DD. 1.) Justin was extremely responsive and hands-on throughout - his greatest contribution was that he has great judgment about structural dynamics of houses and how to improve them and at the same time he has great taste and judgment with respect to interior design. He did a very good job of helping us avoid bad decisions and was able to get the best out of two married people who sometimes had opposing views. 2.) These guys are just plain professional. We knew from the beginning that they would not allow things to go wrong, and they wouldn't cut corners. Justin was very good about managing expectations and keeping us from frustration and disappointment. In my job we have a saying: "happiness is a function of expectations set" and DD really live by this. 3.) Harry, the lead on overall project management was present throughout the entire project and by the end we felt he was part of the family and we felt a sense of disappointment that he wasn't going to be a permanent part of our household. I think one of Design Doctors' biggest challenges is to conclude projects and move on... we could keep thinking of more and more things to do... 4.) Commitment to excellence - Scott, their genius of finishing work solved some very difficult problems created by the original builders of the house. There were things about the design that were just plain goofy and he was able to come up with innovative solutions that were just plain brilliant. I also note that I would come in and find him working on nights and weekends to stay on track... but also because he was just so committed to getting it right. Hard to put a price on that. 5.) Subs - this is frequently the make or break aspect of remodels and DD do not make tradeoffs. The commitment to excellence is consistent from the core DD team, but also through the subs as well. It is very clear they work so closely together that they are almost indistinguishable. 6.) Because this was our first remodel, we created a lot of change orders. Justin and team were extremely flexible and adaptable and still stayed right on time. 6.) DD probably isn't the cheapest and I wouldn't want them to be. We cared about quality and ensuring that our investment wouldn't fall apart after the work was completed. We didn't have time to micromanage. Justin has worked in this area so long that he knows all of the historical issues with builders in the area - that has enormous value and saves money in the long run. Businesses should be compensated for value created. Bottom line - the feeling at the end was similar to the end of a great book or movie. We felt bittersweet that it was over. How many times have you felt that after working with contractors? I am super critical (I manage all types of engineers), and can say it has never happened before. Finally, on the 4th of July we invited a bunch of the local neighbors to see the house and they were astounded at the transformation. We even met one of the previous owners (2 owners ago) and they couldn't believe how much more solid and of high quality the house seemed. Enough said I guess...

    Northwest Outdoor Living and Landscapes
It went really well and we are very happy with the way it came out.  We had terrible drainage in our yard. Every winter, we would have 1-2 inches of standing water over 1-2 inches of mud. Our back yard was a moss farm. Robert and his crew took out the sod, brought in  top soil, raised up the lawn and regraded it. They put in a larger beautiful patio. All around the grass and patio, they installed french drains. I waited to write this review to see what the drainage would be like during the winter.  The lawn is  still  a little squishy but the drainage is greatly improved.   We are very pleased with the improvement in the drainage. I really liked the way they did the french drains. They wrapped the pipes in mesh and also wrapped the pits in mesh before putting in the rock and pipe. The mesh keeps the dirt out. I have a friend whose the contractor didn't put even one layer of mess and within 2 years the pipes were full of dirt. She spent a lot of money having them redone the right way.  I also liked the way they did the patio. I wanted real blue stone but it is very expensive. Robert knew of a new paver that looks a lot like blue stone. It's very pretty.  They put this sand-like stuff between the pavers.  Unlike real sand, it hardens when it's wet. This means that you don't lose all the sand when you blow or clean your patio. Also, around the edges of the patio, they put mortar between the pavers. This keeps the sand under the patio from leaking out. I have a friend whose contractor just put a piece of metal around the edge of the patio. Over time, the sand seeped out the sides of the patio and the pavers became very uneven. It cost her $2000 to have her patio reset. Northwest Outdoor living and landscapes may seem a little expensive, but  I felt like it was worth it.  Both the owners and the teams at NW Outdoor living and Landscape are very experienced.  They really know their stuff. They have figured out  techniques to prevent common problems from arising.
The only problem  we had during the project was with the plants. Communication was very good up to that point and then we had a few miscommunications about the plants and it took some effort to get all the plants that were in the plan. Not all the plants we had agreed on were available and getting suitable substitutes was somewhat difficult, but it worked out fairly well by the end. We had a wonderful summer and fall enjoying our new landscape and patio.
Now that the landscape and project are 9 months old, the only thing I'm not that happy with is that I would have liked more of the sand-like stuff between the pavers and more mortar between the bricks around the edges of the patio. The spaces are filling with dirt and starting to grow moss. I am hoping this can be remedied. Aside from these things, we really love our new landscape and patio.  Many of our neighbors have the same drainage problems we had. We will  be recommending this company to them.   I highly recommend this company.

    American Chimney & Masonry
It went very well - the masons were very professional and friendly. They did an excellent job!  Steve Pietila was very responsive in coming over and reviewing what needed to be done.  He appeared very knowledgeable.  The price was competitive but affordable. I was very satisfied with their work.

    The Wall
The Wall was able to find stone that matched the stone facing on the house for the corner repair. The house repairs look the same as the rest of the house which is exactly what we wanted. We are very happy with the overall job and the result

    CTR Concrete
We wanted a stamped concrete pad poured in our backyard. We live on a hill so my entire backyard is terraced making it difficult to complete projects. I had 8 contractors come out to bid and CTR Concrete was the last bid proposed. John who is the owner was wonderful, he gave us the quote we were looking for and promised work to be done the next day. He showed up the following day with his crew (sons and family) and finished that day...he said it would more than likely take two days! He is a very humble guy and has a great work ethic. I bought them lunch and kept cold waters out for them, they were very appreciative and didn't stop working!! I will use them again for all my concrete needs! They went above my expectations, and we all know how hard it is to find good people that are honest and hard working! Call them!!

    Northwest Outdoor Living and Landscapes
The guys who came out were excellent. They worked hard and were diligent. They did what was required of them. I've never seen such hard workers. The gentleman that we dealt with was a pain in the neck. We were happy with the hardscaping portion, but we weren't so happy with the landscaping portion.

    The Wall
They were efficient, fast, and courteous. They were very knowledgeable. As fas as estimates went, they were about in the middle. You could get a job done cheaper, but not with the quality of work that they do.

A nightmare! After months they still haven't finished 70% of our Granite and tile work, yet they collected 50% as a deposit. The work that they completed is very sloppy. Our other subs can't continue until the tile floors are in so we have camped out in the basement of our house for months, and there is no end in sight!
