    HAVEN'S WOODWORKS
Work went very well. Jeff is an excellent craftsman and he did a great job of replacing a set of doors that had begun to rot. Due to the rot damage, the work took an extra day, but he had budgeted for this and told us this could occur before starting. So there were no surprises and we are very happy with the results. He also added some steps to our deck that made the deck much more functional. This was my second project with Jeff and I highly recommend Jeff and his business Haven's Woodworks.

    Assurant Exteriors
It was a nightmare working with Assurant Exteriors (AE). AE advertised to have a project manager to be on site during our project to ensure good communication, work quality, and project completion. As it turned out they had 1 manager overseeing 19 projects simultaneously. This manager had no time to watch over our project. His primary goal was to make sure the crews got their job done quickly to collect payments and move to the next job. Numerous issues had occurred: 1) Some of the windows delivered were broken and screens damaged. The manager had no idea which were broken and whether or not they have been reordered. 2) A basement window was enlarged without a temporary wall to support the load as quoted. 3) Roof ridge was damaged from being used as a support structure. 4) Siding was skipped on a section of the house. 5) Our brand new decks were craped. 6) Gutters and gutter screens were broken and missing. 7) Cost for fixing dry rot was quoted for $700-1000 became $2100 8) 3 week long project became 10 week project. We had to keep an eye on the work at every step. When we brought up issues with property damage, AEs first response was to deny responsibilities. When we requested issues to be fixed before payments were made. Assurant Exteriors threatened to send their Attorney to collect payments. We had to resolve to shouting matches and got the Better Business Bureau involved before Assurant Exteriors fixed the damages they caused to our property.

    Henderson & Daughter
The work was done well and in a timely manner. They scheduled me sooner than normal as I was going to have surgery and needed a door that I could open easily. My only gripe was with the price. I think their mark up on the door was out of line.

    TGL Construction LLC
We discovered a leak problem on one of our bay windows. We have stucco siding, so we hired a specialist to perform moisture testing on the entire house first. According to the test result, we learned that the water damages had possibly spread between the back of the siding and the wood structure around the bay window and there was additional moisture behind the stucco and wood structure located in various areas near our garage doors. According to the specialist who did the moisture testing on our house, the water damage was mainly caused by the improper design of the gutters and failure of the interface between the stucco siding and wood interfaces. What we needed was not just someone to replace the window and putting the exterior stucco back, so it looks good from outside. We needed a contractor who is knowledgeable and has great hand-on experience to fix the root causes, so we dont ever have to face the same problems again! We hired a guy through word of mouth who is specialized in fixing stucco siding; however he is not a general contractor. We needed a general contractor who would fix all the issues and work with our preferred stucco contractor. We had two general contractors come to look at our house. The first bid was the cheapest one, but looking back we cannot see how he can truly fix all the issues well. The second company only expressed the interest of fixing the known problems such as replacing gutters, fascia boards, and window. He had no interest and knowledge of looking into the true causes and how to prevent this from happening again. We were disappointed, and then we found Tony Lematty from Angie List who owns TGL Construction LLC. Tony is not the cheapest guy, but he has delivered the solutions that we have confidence that our house will not only look good from outside, but we would never have to face the same issue again! Tony worked so well with our preferred stucco specialist and we are impressed with the quality of work delivered so far. Tony has replaced our gutters, fascia board, leaking bay window with water proof coating and flashing, rotten door frame, and fixed the structure damages of our house frame. There is still paint job to be finished. This will be postponed to next spring when we can have consecutive dry weather. We are very happy with Tony and his crews for the work that they have done so far and would highly recommended him to others. As a footnote he did not leave any mess behind and took extra precautions to protect the inside of our home.

    DT Glass Inc
I called several local glass installers to get quotes on the shower glass.  They all had similar prices and approximate time-frames for ordering and installing.  We went with DT because their customer service was by far the best in the initial stages.  They not only answered questions, but offered advice, suggested alternatives, etc.  In fact, they helped us save some money by avoiding costly upgrades.  They made us feel like they valued our business.
The rest of the process has been the same.  Great communication about when they would be on-site to take measurements, provided lead time quickly, and showed up for install on-schedule.  The various people who did the work work courteous and professional.
The shower door arrived with a small imperfection in the grind on the top of the door.  They are replacing the door with no issues.
Good product, great service at a fair price.

    OHI Construction
While the police and fireman were here; standing outside; I called Servepro as I have seen their commercials for fire and water damage; they said it was not their " kind of job" (not sure if that because no fire or water or too small). So the fireman said they had a list of companies they use for this type of situation. They rotate so this was the company next in line. Their guy was out within the hour after being pulled off another job in OR; assessed the needs and took measurements; then went to buy the lumber; returned and did a good job.  I was very pleasantly surprised to see how reasonable the bill was. The guy who came out was very pleasant and professional as was the woman in the office who generated the invoice and e-mailed it over.

    Renewal by Andersen of Portland
I was torn on how much detail I should leave in this review.  I want to give people/companies the benefit of the doubt.  Everyone has a bad day!  But, my experience didn't seem like that.  Initially, the meeting with the consultant was positive.  But, when the presentation began it was less and less pleasant.  The sales consultant went through a presentation that lasted too long and was as well scripted as a made for TV commercial.  After the presentation, the consultant hit us with an obnoxious price and began to apply their discounts.  One discount was a special letter signed by their CEO for 5% off if we sign today.   Reason: because it would save their consultants time of another trip. The price started out at $43,000 and made it's way to $36,000.  I was still suffering from sticker shock when I told the consultant that the price was significantly higher than I had expected.  At which point he began to work on other options.  But, I was quickly turned off by the pressure that came.  I was polite and explained that this would be something I would have to review. To shorten the story, the sales consultant wanted to sit in the car while we made a decision.  I'm not a person to make a decision "on the spot" for an investment in something that is 10% the value of my home.  There were some other unprofessional things that were said in hopes of getting us to sign.  But, I will leave those things out of this review.  It gave me the feeling that the sales consultant really needed the money or the numbers.
Renewal by Andersen called me from Minnesota 3 days later for a customer service experience questionnaire.  One of their questions was, "Did the consultant present you the letter from the CEO for 5% off?"  What this told me is that these sales consultants are being trained to present their product this way.
If Andersen believes their product is the best.  The product should sell itself without the "Kirby Vacuum" sales tactics.  If you claim to be the premiere window maker, act like it!  Based on the presentation, I believe Anderson has a pretty good window.
Needless to say, we didn't go with Renewal by Andersen.  We got two other quotes.  Both of which were a 1/3rd of the price of my quote from Renewal by Andersen.

I recommend that you review the following Angie's List link.  Renewal by Andersen was more than 5 times as expensive per window as the guide recommended.  Granted we had all different types of windows and 2 sliders.    http://www.angieslist.com/articles/how-much-does-it-cost-replace-windows.htm

    Integrity Restoration, Inc.
From the moment I called Integrity Restoration I was impressed with their customer service.  I was dealing with a plumbing leak coming from a neighbor?s condo unit above my unit.  It was an especially stressful situation as my condo is a rental property and I live out of state.  Nancy Atkin set up an appointment right away and coordinated to have a plumber meet at the property at the same time as the estimator.  I appreciated her email confirmations and updates on who would be meeting me at the property.  Lan Ho was the estimator who was extremely knowledgeable and efficient. She was able to get Ritchie Fritz, the project manager, over to the unit that afternoon to discuss scheduling and emailed me the written estimate within a few hours of our appointment.  Ritchie got that I was concerned about inconveniencing my tenant and that I wanted the job completed as quickly as possible.  He was able to start the project within a few days and finish it quickly.  Ritchie was a dream to work with throughout the process.  His communication was excellent.  Anytime I called or texted him he either answered his phone immediately or got back to me within minutes.  He was so on top of the project at all times.  Any small outstanding issues after the job was completed were resolved quickly and to my satisfaction.  Tara Raines was helpful with the final billing.
In summary, all of the employees of Integrity Restoration demonstrated an incredibly high level of responsiveness, professionalism, attention to detail and thoroughness.  I felt the quality of work was high and their pricing was fair.  I so highly recommend this company!

    Jeff Shaffer Custom Carpentry

We'll definitely be using Jeff again for other carpentry projects in our home.  The work quality is top notch and they could easily charge much more money for their services.  They were incredibly professional and respectful of our home.  Can't wait for them to start the next project!

**Don't be afraid to use Jeff just because he does not utilize email and electronic correspondence.  He is prompt to return voice messages and it's easy to work around this.

    DIETZ HOME IMPROVEMENTS
Awesome! We had used Shaun in the past to work on the decks in our home as well as repair some sliding pocket doors which had fallen off their tracks, and hang some other interior doors. Shaun is professional, punctual and friendly. His prices are fair and presented in writing before any work is done, so there are no and quot;surprisesand quot;. I will definitely use his services again and would recommend him without hesitation.
