  • All went well. The technicians came out quickly the same day as called. They checked the situation and determined that the old unit need to be replaced. The two technicians got busy and had a new unit installed and operating in about 3 hours. The techs were nice pleasant fellows who did good work.

  • Our full bathroom remodel done by Eric Fiore of Whatcom Home Remodelers was a nightmare. I was out of the country for 5 weeks and the bathroom was supposed to be done during this time. Mr. Fiore has many excuses as to why it wasn't finished, and he has lied extensively about the timing and quality of his work. I have documentation, witnesses and photos to corroborate everything I write here. Here is a partial list of what went wrong: Floating Toilet He installed a floating toilet. There are multiple problems with the installation. First, the toilet bowl is installed at a height of 14 2/5” (height from floor to top of bowl); minimum height according to Washington State code is 15”. He was asked to raise the toilet by at least 2 inches from standard height. The in-wall installation is too low. The plumbing for the toilet in our crawl space was installed incorrectly, using no glue/sealants and with piping not standard for use with a toilet. The toilet has been draining liquids into our crawlspace since it was installed on 8/6/2018. Our crawlspace had to be excavated and sanitized for our new plumber to remove Mr. Fiore’s work and replace it. Our new plumber does not believe a licensed plumber did the work and Mr. Fiore has not responded to a certified letter requesting the names of his employees/sub-contractors. Shower The plumbing for the shower is loose and not properly installed. There is no waterproofing. The hardware for the shower was installed before grouting the tile. The hardware is misaligned and misplaced (hand shower is not in correct location). He was asked to raise the showerhead and did not. The shower he built is 27” wide. Minimum shower width in the State of Washington must have a 30” diameter. He built a niche in the shower and it was not framed properly and had no insulation. It was sloping towards the wall. Again, there was no waterproofing. Shower Pan The shower pan he poured is not level, nor is it sloping properly. There are hills and valleys in the shower pan and it slopes towards the back of the shower in places. There were voids found when it was demolished. The waterproof membrane he used under the shower pan was punctured along its entire length by nails. This membrane did not go up the wall either. The plumbing he used for the drain he installed was not up to code. Light and Mirror The electrical outlet for the new lighting and the location for the in-wall mirror were not moved when demo was done. These were supposed to have been moved to accommodate the moving of the sink and to assure all items were aligned properly. Sink At his suggestion, we decided to move the sink to the left several inches. He did not move the plumbing for the sink and the vanity will not fit due to a drawer hitting the plumbing. Fan The fan was not installed properly and was not framed into the ceiling. Window Mr. Fiore confirmed measurements from the supplier before I ordered the window. The window was too large and he complained he had to reframe it and put shingles on the house. He told me the shingles we have are unavailable now (“they don’t make those anymore”). This is not true. He put composite shingles on our cedar-shingled house. They were loose and not sealed properly and we would not have put them on our house had we been contacted. He used reclaimed (nails holes and all) interior wood for outside sill. It was attached with three tiny nails. The window was not framed properly, was not flashed properly (or at all in places and he used some type of plumbers tape in areas), he used interior hardware on the exterior and 18 gauge finish nails. None of this is correct. Barn Door He was with me when I purchased the barn door and hardware for the bathroom. I was concerned the hardware was too shallow and the existing trim in the small hallway outside the bathroom would not accommodate the door hardware. He told me, “Not a problem, I can make it work.” On the day he was asked to leave (after I insisted he install the toilet and door due to company coming to stay in our home) he texted me that the barn door would not fit due to existing trim. This is the exact problem I was trying to avoid when purchasing the door. Tile No waterproofing was used behind the tile. The tile work is sloppy and unprofessional. He used drywall mud to seal seams on the Durock. Tile was pulling off wall after two days. After calling me to confirm tile to go on bathroom floor, I arrived home an hour and 15 minutes later to find the wrong tile installed. He did not look surprised or shocked; nor did he apologize. We would have had significant water damage down the road if we had let him finish the job. Upon inspection by a professional, our bathroom needs to be gutted as all work done by Whatcom Home Remodelers and his employees/sub-contractors is sub-standard and unprofessional; most work not meeting minimum code requirements of the State of Washington. We would have had extensive water damage due to the lack of any waterproofing in the shower. Our toilet and plumbing, as mentioned above, was installed incorrectly and was draining liquids INTO our crawl space. 9/19/2018 Update: All work done by Mr. Fiore has been demolished and I am happy to share photos of the unprofessional, sub-standard work done should you request them. Everything he built in our bathroom was not up to code and was done incorrectly. We are lucky to have found out. We wouldn’t have known about much of the shoddy work if we hadn’t had it demolished. According to our new contractor, “This isn’t the work of a guy who got in over his head, this is someone who didn’t give a sh*t.” I have since done a background check and I suggest you do the same if you are considering hiring him. His license is currently suspended under the name Whatcom Home Remodelers. He has one claim under a license he had under his name Eric Fiore. Do not use him. I know of several other jobs he did sub-standard work on. I have spoken to three of these families. Things to look for: his background check, his current (suspended) license and his past license.

  • This job would have been done perfectly if you only needed hot water. Cold water costs extra apparently. We had installed a water heater ourselves 10 years previous and didn't want to do it again. So we called Marv's. We were quoted $1500 to install new water heater. I thought that was a bit pricey but went ahead with the job. After installation we only had hot water coming out of both sides of the faucet. Marv's was happy to fix the problem that didn't exist before for a mere $300.00 bringing the total cost of a water heater to $1800. Heck of a deal. After a few phone calls back and forth about the issue Marv's sent us a credit note for the labor portion along with a lovely threat to send us to collections even though we were actively trying to resolve issue. IF you decide to use Marv's to install a water heater please clarify that you will be needing both hot and cold water.

  • My water heater wasn't working correctly. The plumber quickly diagnosed the issue and provided me with options for repair or replacement. I chose to replace the heater and just assumed that we would need to schedule anther appointment for installation. I was suprised and pleased when the plumber had one delivered to my house. The new water heater was delivered in the amount of time it took him to remove the old one.

  • I share a well with my neighbor (we each have our own pumps). He noticed the area around the well was getting swampy. He called B&C and they came out the next day. My neighbor did the digging (to save money) around the well to expose the leaking pipe. B&C fixed the leak. My neighbor filled in the hole. The pipe was the one from my pump, so I paid the bill.

  • B&C came out when they said they would, did what they said they would, and charged what they said they would. That's already more than most contractors, so what more can you really ask? Well, how about the fact that they always, ALWAYS picked up the phone. Every single time. This company was truly reliable in every way.

  • Lynden Sheet Metal recently "completed" a job at my grandmother's house. They told her they'd be there at 9am and showed up at 1pm, without any notice that they were running late. After they left her without a working toilet for an entire weekend, they finally "finished". Then, she took a shower and the water would not drain. They hadn't hooked the shower drain into the new sewer pipe. They had to come back out and fix that. While they were there fixing it, she realized that they had damaged the electrical wiring that powers her sump pump and washing machine (neither of which turn on anymore). When she asked them if they were going to fix the damage they caused, they admitted they had done it but told her that they were not going to fix it and she should call an electrician. My grandmother is 80+ years old. She just wanted these people out of her house before they could do more damage, so she didn't argue. She will not allow this company back in her house. She will not call and complain because she doesn't want the stress of dealing with it. Now, she has the additional burden of finding an electrician and paying for the damage to be fixed. My family is telling anyone who will listen about her horrible experience. Do not hire this company.

  • After initial contact through Rick Dubrow, Shawn became the project overseer and estimator, and stayed with our project from start to finish. Sharon, our designer has the ability to listen carefully to our requirements and suggestions, and distill them into a design that worked for us. Mike, as our on-site project manager, went out of his way to ensure that the work caused us as little inconvenience as possible. And given that the work took place in three parts of the house -- master bath, kitchen, and laundry, often at the same time -- that was no mean feat. The subcontractors were obviously very carefully chosen, and they all gave us what we wanted, not what might have been easier for them. Communications via email and phone were excellent, and the final cost estimate came in very close to the actual final cost. There were no surprises. We are very happy with the results of the remodel, we have recommended A1Builders/Adaptations Design Studio to friends, and we will use them again for our next project.

  • Called Marv's specifically because they have portable cameras that can inspect inside your pipes to see where the problem is. Our home was built 3 years ago and we had been having problems with our kitchen sink not draining unless we ran the garbage disposal. Upon inspection, it was discovered that our pipe was full of water. All other pipes in the the house and the clean out drain outside were clear. The technician snaked the drain 3 times and finally broke whatever was blocking loose. It was due to his diligence that we finally have a free flowing sink.

  • Project went very well, crew was professional and job done on time, very nice crew. Repair job was scheduled for a week and took four days. Crew decided most of the digging work had to be done by hand, which was very nice of them because they had to dig a ditch for one system completely by hand and another ditch from my house almost to the street. Job was completed on schedule. I have used Favinger before, was very satisfied, and will use the company for any future needs.
