Contractor cooperated with  trying to get window installed prior to onset of winter and negotiating a price for a portion of the work to be done in December (window install) with window well installation to follow in spring.  Homeowner provided excavated area for access to foundation.
Crew showed up as scheduled.  Opening  was marked out and then cut free hand with concrete saw.  Concrete was pulled out of opening, jack hammered into small pieces and removed by hand.  Opening was then framed, siliconed, water shield, drilled and screwed to foundation.  When it came time to install window, it was discovered the opening was too small due to an non-square opening.   This required removal of window, pulling off the water shield. hacking and chiseling away a good portion of the framing, reinstall damaged water shield, and reinstalling the window.
After window was fully installed, it was discovered that the windows did not close squarely and  only the bottom window lock would engage easily, but the top one required pushing on one of the sliders in order to lock the top lock.  Also, when the framing was hacked away to gain some extra room to allow setting the window, it was not cut evenly the full depth of the framing.  This ultimately created an obstruction on the inside when it came time to trim out the window.
Long story short - I spent a day removing the window entirely, cutting away framing full depth, supporting sill full length on a flat level sill rather than using and couple shims to support the window and installied window per manufacturers instruction.
I was expecting a more accurate and square concrete cut using a track/rail system that may have prevented many of the these problems.  The concrete opening measurements should have been verified before framing the opening and the window framing checked for square before installing water shield and window..

I had the company that put our basement water-proofing system (not VT Concrete) in and they came out promptly and charged to actually do nothing.  They recommended the Santa Fe dehumidifier at a cost of $2400.  Checking online I found that Roy's company charged $1700 and would install it for free.  He was prompt, knowledgeable and showed us what the other company should have done.  The other company kept wanting to sell us things and kept mentioning work they could do.  Roy was helpful in educating us about the system (we bought the house after it was put in).  They also confirmed what we thought, that the other company put the drainage system so close to the house that the water was actually just being recycled into it!  I will have them do our follow-up yearly system check.
