  • We were referred to Kevin by a general contractor with extensive experience in the Mad River Valley. Kevin and his team did the work in January -- a tough bunch! They had to take a couple of weeks off because it was too cold for the machinery to run. The work was professional, and communication before, during and at the end of the project was great. After the snow melted, we found virtually no scrap or waste.

  • Tom Shea and his crew were fantastic. From coordinating the project through the final invoice he was a pleasure to work with. It was a big project, 8-10 weeks spread over 5 months because of winter weather. We had an unexpected abatement issue in the middle of the project and another company got involved, Tom and Deconstruction Works supported and accommodated all of the timeline shifts. I was really impressed and they even made modifications for the change in scope in a fair and logical way. In the end they salvaged about 75% of an old 1850’s farm house and while most of the materials were donated we kept some of the boards for a future project. Thanks Tom and crew for making that process as enjoyable as it could have been. Even our new neighbors were thanking me for selecting this company given the project was in the neighbors face, i’m really happy it all worked out so well. Thanks from Chris & Cory in Moretown, VT

  • We met owner Jesse Harper at a home show in Waterbury.  He spent a couple of hours at our home, which is a rental property, and did a great job listening to our needs.  We walked through the home with him, and discussed design goals and constraints.  His recommendations were just that.  There was no pressure to provide any particular device or service; no upselling.  He did the installation over two days while we were not there.  Communication was clear and real-time via email, text and phone.  Our location provided some special challenges (no cell service in the area among them), and he designed a system that met our needs, budget and adequately addressed site constraints.
Jessee is a great guy.  The service was personal and his communication was direct and honest.  He is truly taking a long-term approach to building his business by establishing good relationships with his customers.  He is loosely affiliated with Bourne's energy, a well-established business who also vouched for Jesse and his company.

  • Completely unprofessional - Beware!  Dave seemingly had no awareness or concern with specifications or safety.  After the job was done, we noticed that the hearth pad was not positioned correctly to shield the floor in front of the stove.  He came back and adjusted it.  After he had left again, we noticed that the stove was too close to the wall and that the flue was not plumb.  We called and left a message for Dave and he never called us back.  We had Chimney Savers come out to inspect the job and they confirmed that the installation was not done correctly or properly for safe operation of the stove.  Proper shielding was not installed at the stove outlet bend or in the attic pass-through.  The height of the chimney was too short and a spark catching cap was omitted.  We are paying to have it completely reinstalled.

  • I must confess, I am not an easy person to please when it comes to my home. I know every inch of my house inside & out. I am very skeptical of anyone in general, especially painters. Painters in Vermont do not have a good track record or reputation.
Paul came to my home to do an estimate almost 2 months ago. He looked presentable, and is very well spoken. And a fellow native New Yorker to boot! He emailed me an estimate almost a week later, as promised. I hired them immediately. About a week in advance of the start date, Paul came and helped us pick out colors. What a relief that was. A Painter who is VERY good with colors is very big bonus. He steered us in the right direction, especially on accent colors. He gave us a fantastic accent color...Ben Moore Storm Cloud Grey. Love it!
Paul and his crew arrive on time, each and every day. And this is not a group of misfits, which is what we've come to expect with painting companies in VT. After each work day, the A Blaze of Color crew made it a point to clean up and keep their tools tidy in the corner of the foyer. They even offered to put the living room back together for the night, but that was not necessary.
I feel fortunate to have found A Blaze of Color (via a recommendation from a neighbor). I will most definitely be using them again. The quality of work speaks to itself. The attention to detail is what's most impressive.

  • My experience with G&G has been excellent. I work from home, so we were able to review and solve problems as we went - as I mentioned above the house is very old, and very quirky. Guy's native language is French so there were occasional minor misunderstandings. On a previous job (exterior painting) we had a written contract, but on the basis of that job we worked on a time and materials basis, verbally rather than written, aside from informal to - do lists. If there is one thing I would suggest it is to tell Guy t o take his time with windows - he is of the paint quickly now and clean with a blade later school, which is not my favorite, but got the job done.

Guys ability to paint, repair, and do plumbing meant that we were able to take care of things like replacing leaky faucets and an old commode without having to call anyone else in.

Guy LeBrun's  partner, Guy Jolicouer, does HVAC, and helped out on occasion, but there was no HVAC specific work involved.

If you are looking for a workman like approach, solid solutions, and a good job at an excellent value then G&G is  for you. If you are looking for a name on a truck, polished appearance, and high end flourishes, then not so much. Both Guys are honest, hardworking and really care about coming up with the right solution.
