    It has taken me a long time to write this review because the experience was so upsetting.  Full disclosure:  I do not appreciate it when doctors and vets take you to the examining room (and the ones at Onion River are tiny and airless), and then keep you waiting for 20 minutes to 1/2 hour until a vet or even a vet tech finally shows up.  That's what happened when I took my sick cat in last February, and it's a pattern with them. (It has happened to me before there.)  First a vet tech came in, and really did nothing (did not even take my cat's temp), then  finally the veterinarian came in, examined the cat, and said (without any iota of compassion), "The outcome for this cat is not good."  Then, without explaining what she was going to do, she left the room again, leaving me there for yet another 20 minutes.  Finally she came back and asked me how I wanted to "handle" the situation.  As if I had a choice?  My cat was suffering terribly! 
         She then asked me to put my cat back into its carrier and to wait in the waiting room.  A few beats after I had sat down, she walked up to me and said, "You cat just may be highly contagious; would you mind taking it out to your car?"  This was on one of the coldest days in February in New England!  I was stunned and furious.  I said, "Can't you drop whatever you are doing and relieve my darling cat of her misery?"  I was so terribly upset to begin with (like most of us, I adored my cat); well she kept me waiting for another 15 minutes before I finally asked her to take Olivia (my dear cat) in her carrier for immediate euthanasia.  The vet was most unpleasant, made an unpleasant and impatient face, but did relieve me of the carrier so I could begin the grieving process. 
         When she emerged and asked me if I wanted to bury Olivia, I said, incredulously, "In February?  Do you think I could actually dig a whole in the frozen February ground?"  Of course they charged me an arm and a let to cremate her.
         This woman has the compassion of toad.  I wish I could remember her name, but I've repressed it.  At any rate, I would not take another animal there for any reason even it I had to drive 50 miles to the next veterinarian.  A big thumbs down, and a traumatic experience all around.

    This was a new vet for us after moving to Central VT over a year ago. They were recommended by previous (out of county) vet as the 'go-to' vet hospital in the area. ORAH were able to get us right in, and were very helpful in helping me fill out the Care Credit Card application. I was initially quite nervous, as the exam seemed very clinical and matter of fact (which is a very good thing) but lacking a 'warm' bedside manner with both myself and cat, which I was used to from my previous vet. The staff overall, who did soon pick up on fact I was nervous to leave Little Kitty there, especially for the first time, reassured me I could call and check in at any time during business hours, and were very clear about pros and cons of surgery/procedures. Additionally, I was impressed with their response to a 4 month old kitten brought in and seizing while I was there. They were calm, immediately sought to treat animal, and then worked with guardian (again suggesting CCC) around payment.  Charge for my cat's procedure was 750, which seems enormously steep. That said, I was pleased with the care and Little Kitty is healing well, got a follow up call from vet the next day, and has a follow up appt included in initial bill.

    My dog stayed there twice and the facility seemed ok, but the owner wasn't very responsive and dint volunteer any information. I had to call three or four times before she called me back. It may be that she is better with animals than people. I though the kennel was ok, but I have since looked for others.

    First of all, I have to say that the entire staff is professional and friendly and everything you would want at a vet's office!.  All of them!  We are always greeted when we arrive, and the staff remembers me and each of my dog's names.







    The vets are extraordinary - we had Karen Bradley this time.  She is very familiar with English Bulldogs - as are other vets at ORAH.  This is the first time that this dog has had an allergic reaction.  Karen examined our pup, had a lot of questions about what lead up to the reaction, and had great info for us, things to try.  She also gave us some prescriptions.  I always feel like the vets are interested in our input, and then they tweak their recommendations based on that feedback.







    I always leave the vet's office feeling like I have been heard, that my pets have been treated well, and that everyone cares about us!!

    Dr. Paul and staff were all wonderful.
    This is a great family operated veterinary office located in a really home-feeling environment .
    Dr. Paul spent quite a long time with us answering all and any questions about our dog and the local wildlife.
    He was not pushy in the least for products/services including vaccines or anti flea and tick applications.
    I just felt, overall, that he was sincere, genuine, and very knowledgeable.
    Will totally visit again.

    The whole time Carol was there she was kind, caring and understanding. She took her time, did not rush me. Katie was comfortable on her couch when she passed away. Carol also took her to the crematorium for me. She is excellent and I highly recommend her to anyone who has pets. I am pleased to recommend Carol and she will be my vet for my new little kitty.

    I brought Max in a week later for a follow up and he was doing much better. Usually he sounds like a wild rabid animal when he gets to the vets but here he just roamed around and let the doc examine him.

    A wonderful visit; Dr. Alfarone is just terrific with the cats, very calm, clearly cares, does not overcharge, does not do or suggest unnecessary services. The entire place has a caring athmosphere and my cats are very, very well taken care of there.

    Terrible "bed-side" manner. Some of the worst I've ever seen in a Vet (and I've even worked with some). They refused to run blood work on our cat during an initial visit in September and treated us like we were crazy for even bringing him in when he just seemed "off". Then in December, after he started losing weight, we brought him in again only to find out he had been in renal failure for the last several months. At this point, the Vet actually yelled at us for not bringing him in months ago. It was a terrible experience and we lost our cat. I know that Veterinary medicine can't always be an exact science and even the best Vets make bad judgment calls, but it was the overall attitude that really made up our minds. We will never be going back to this Veterinary ever again.
