    Summer Street Auto
My car required extensive repair work. I asked the mechanics to look at it and let me know if I should put in the cost of the repairs or trade the car. They advised me to trade it. They do not sell cars so this meant they would not be receiving payments for repairs.

    Shadowland Auto Repair
Shadowland is my favorite auto shop.  Rusty and his son, Travis, are top notch.  I have followed Rusty since 1980 when he was service manager at the Nissan dealership in Rutland, VT.  Rusty knows his mechanics and vehicles inside and out.  Travis has learned well by his Dad's side.  My last service in June was very routine in nature. As always it was performed promptly and at a reasonable price.  I would recommend Shadowland to anyone needing quality work performed.  That their prices are reasonably is a bonus.

    Bennington Auto Tech
I had one car that I had taken to two other well known stations and Bennington solved the issue within about an hour and a half that the other two stations couldn't even solve.

    ERNIE'S AUTOBODY
They have been nice and friendly. Their work is thorough and they are honest. They are great about explaining things in an easy way to understand. They are great about giving estimates before doing the work.

    GOSS TIRE CO
I bought from them one year and then did not see them again until 10 months later but when I walked in, they said Hi and called me by name. They remembered my car and tires. This had been true every time I have been there. I had a car that used expensive 17" rims and tires and I wanted to be able to buy cheaper tires by buying 16" rims and tires. Goss searched for suppliers and found some 16" rims that the supplier said would fit my Hybrid SUV for $50. Goss ordered them from Calif. They showed me the invoice for $56 each (for four) plus $40 for shipping but becasue they had told me they were going to be $50, they only charged me $50. They did not fit. Goss contacted the supplier and was shipped a second set of rims that the supplier swore would fit. They did not fit. Goss gave me a wash job and an apology and told me that there were no 16" rims for my car. What I learned later was that Goss ate the entire cost of those rims - more than $500 and never said a thing to me about covering the cost. The Supplier refused to take them back but Goss knew that when they ordered them. That is not something you find in most dealers.

    Burke View Garage
Inspection went very well but it turned out that two of our tires needed to be replaced.  Larry brought me into the bay while my car was on the lift to show me exactly what his concern was regarding my tires.  He suggested that I order new ones and we set up a follow up appointment to put them on.  I was pleased with the attention to service.

    Auto Craftsmen
In every effort they have done, I have always felt that I was treated honestly and fairly. Even when I did not know what was wrong and they could have charged much more, they were honest and charged only the actual cost of the repair. I had a flashing warning light on my 2006 Highlander Hybrid - an expensive car to work on and repair. The light could have meant anything. They traced it to a loose wire on a sensor and charged me nothing at all. Another time, I took a car in for a trip inspection and they discovered that I had a wheel bearing about to go out. If it had failed on the trip, it could have caused a major accident. I asked for a wash and wax and interior vac. during one visit. The price of $50 was very competitive but what I got was a cleaning and detailing job that would cost $250 or more at any other shop. They stripped the interior down to the metal and deep cleaned EVERY nook and cranny in and under the car, cleaned the carpets (steam cleaned?) and put it all back so it looked and smelled like a new car. When I asked them for work on the Hybrid system, they referred me to the local dealer - admitting that they were not qualified or trained to do the work. They have since sent one of their mechanics to a special school to get certified in hybrid vehicles. They offer coupons and discounts all the time that have saved me lots of money and put their prices in the very competitive range for being such high quality. The owner is very involved in local charities and contributes a lot of time and money to them. They will sell cars for their customers but only if they have maintained them so that they can honestly vouch for the quality and condition of the car. It is rare to find a car dealer and repair service that you can really and honestly trust to deal with you in a fair and forthright manner. I have owned more than 50 cars in my life in all parts of the country and have used car repair and service businesses hundreds of times. I can count the times I have felt like I was dealing with an honest auto repair business on one hand - the rest left me thinking that they were exclusively out to make a profit at my expense. If you live in Vermont or are traveling up here and need car repairs or maintenance, I would recommend a call or visit to Auto Craftsmen in Montpelier. If they can help you, they will and if not, they will refer you to someone that you can trust.

    Auto Craftsmen
The recent repair work was done competently. We were given a loaner car and picked the car up at the time promised. Eight years ago I purchased a used Mazda 626 from Auto Craftsmen and there was an issue with the check engine light coming on all the time. They replaced the O2 sensor, which appeared to be the problem according to the codes, but every now and then it continued to come on. They serviced the car at no charge well beyond the warranty, and after about a year we agreed that the light was not indicating a problem since the car was reliable and always ran well. When I brought it in for routine maintenance, they'd turn the light off, but as soon as the engine warmed up it came on again. I never felt any worry because I knew they had checked the car thoroughly and I never had any problems with this car. My ex bought my son a used Nissan Maxima, and I took it to Auto Craftsmen because it was not inspected by a mechanic before it was purchased. They helped me prioritize the work the car needed--safety first--and I was able to spread out the cost of making the car useful and reliable over several months. They provide in-town shuttle service for people who work in downtown Montpelier in the morning and again at the end of the day. There will provide a loaner on a first-come first-serve basis. This is an excellent repair and maintenance business. I prefer to pay more to them because they stand behind their work and want to prevent problems.

    MORSE AUTO SALES & SERVICE
We always go to Morse Auto because after years of dealing with other auto service dealers, we finally found Morse Auto in 2005. We have never had an issue with them - they are so honest, and do their best to get you in whatever your problem. I would highly recommend them to my friends or anyone who is looking for a mechanic who doesn't rob you blind - they built their reputation on honesty and good work ethics.
